Draconus297
This has a pretty basic premise to it, actually: I like Dragons, and the AGM features more than one Dragon-restricted Rank 5 without many ways of accessing them. They exist, of course, but . . . well, it's like Rank 9 pre-Kings/Dracos. Is there a way to make it? Yes, yes there is. Is it in any way likely that you will? No. As for the basic themes, Sandragon is sand + dragon- essentially, dragons that can swim through sand, like landsharks. [spoiler= Main Deck Monsters]Sandragon StrikerEARTH - Level 5 - Dragon/Effect - 2300/0If your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters: You can Special Summon this monster from your hand. Sandragon BurrowerEARTH - Level 5 - Dragon/Effect - 2100/1500You can Special Summon this monster from your hand by discarding 1 card. If this card is detached from an Xyz monster you control, you can destroy 1 card on the field. Sandragon TyrantEARTH - Level 5 - Dragon/Effect - 2000/400Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. If your opponent would target a "Sandragon" monster you control for a card or effect, you can Special Summon this monster from your hand, and if you do: If that monster has an original Level, you can, immediately after this effect resolves; Xyz Summon 1 Dragon-Type Xyz monster using monsters you control as Material. Darj
Wow, these are insane, and in an overpowered, bad way.I see some hard OPTs missing, like in Burrower, Defender, Maximum Dragon Xyz, Quick Crusher, as well as the grave effect of Ore Jaw, which of course can lead to massive searches, and consequently, monster spam. I suggest to put regular or hard OPTs in those effects. Then, you got waaay too many cards for an archetype. I'm counting 10 monsters, 9 Spell/Traps and 9 Xyzs; way too much, you can find archetypes functioning just fine with about half of those numbers. Also making so many Xyzs in a way is unfair since you make them more versatile by giving them a larger Extra Deck toolbox that, in addition to the generic and semi-generic Xyzs they can inherently access, allows them to answer different scenarios, and thus leaving them less weaknesses and making it more difficult for the opponent to fight them. By the way, the RUM states that it attaches Tokens to an Xyz, but that's impossible by card mechanics since Tokens cannot be used as Xyz Materials. [spoiler=Decklist]Monsters: 21x3 Sandragon Burrowerx3 Sandragon Blasterx3 Sandragon Amphitherex3 Sandragon Defenderx3 Sandragon Ore Jawx3 Sandragon Rapid Cutterx3 Sandragon MimicSpell/Traps: 19x1 Foolish Burialx3 Maximum Dragon Xyzx2~3 Sandragon Earth Burstx3 RUM Sandragon Forcex3 Return of the Dragon Lordsx3 Dragon Shrinex5+ staples and/or techs: Raigeki, Twin Twisters, Dimensional Barrier, Solemn Strike, Sandragon Seal, Foolish Burial GoodsExtra Deck:x2 Quick Crusherx1 Rapid Grinderx2 Gravel Tombx1 Volcasaurusx1 Wind-Up Zenmaiohx1 Gaia Dragoonx1 Subterranian Matriachx2 Liquiefaction Masterx1 Instant Burialx1 True King V.F.D.x1 tech/meta call: Shark Fortress, Tiras, Enterblathnirx1 Durendal (w/ True King engine)x1 Tremor Beast (if the RUM is consistent enough)Of course, after hypothetical tests I could evaluate the abundance of revival and milling cards and adjust accordingly. A promising option is a True Draco engine with Dragonic Driagram and True King Lithosazim popping your Sandragons to either trigger on-destruction effects (e.g Amphithere) or use their graveyard effects (e.g. Blaster Ore Jaw, Rapid Cutter) , while Lithosazim will double as material for a Rank9. Draconus297
I added the recommended OPT effects, although the lack of them was initially mostly intended to add some speed to a Rank 5 archetype, something inherently kinda bricky. I hadn't realized they'd be that bad. I admit, I've got a thing for bigger archetypes, although I hadn't thought that 28 cards was considered big. Then again, I think that these 10-16 card archetypes that have become the norm are just puny, so maybe I know nothing. I'd considered that, but the problem is that there's no way to give an Xyz monster Materials through a card effect that isn't either slow (I noted that you didn't put in Extra Sandragon, or really any of the archetypal Traps) or reliant on existing cards on the field, so I had to improvise. If I just said to give it Materials, the "from where" thing would come into play, and to attempt to rectify the issue I just gave it a pair of Tokens. If I could find a way to write the effect without using Tokens as Xyz Material, I would, but Konami hasn't made a card that does what this one needs to. Thanks for the criticism, and the Deck list! Darj
Instead of Tokens, you can make the card attach any Sandragon Spell/Traps in the grave, or Sandragon Monsters in the Extra Deck. But still, being rewarded with a free Xyz just for topdecking the card, in addition to keeping the Spell for a Rank-Up play, is pushing it too far, IMO; I would be more comfortable if it didn't have the topdeck effect at all. I didn't find "Extra Sandragon" appealing, personally: the on-field effect is weak IMO, and the in-grave effect is unreliable by depending on the opponent's actions. If anything, I would tech 1 along "Foolish Burial Goods".
