Recommended Posts

Just felt like getting back into this, so let's do it.

1. All YCM and Leaderboard rules apply.
2. Cards must be PM'd to me.
3. First to 3 votes wins, or has the most votes after 72 hours if the 3 vote rule is not met.
4. Voters must have at least two sentences of their reason of choice. (In the case of this contest, voters should also take Flavor into consideration.)
5. Loser must give 1 Rep to the Winner.
6. Written cards are allowed.

Deadline: Must send entry within 24 hours, and voting ends 72 hours after the cards are in.

Condition: Challenger's Choice: Make a Flip Effect, or Pseudo-Flip Effect monster.
If this face-down card is targeted, or would be destroyed, by a card effect your opponent controls: Flip this card to face-up Attack Position. When this card is destroyed after being flipped face-up: Target 1 face-up monster on the field; switch it to face-down Defense Position, also, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower DARK monster from your Graveyard in face-down Defense Position, except "Mortez, Cursed by Moonlight".

When this card is flipped face-up: draw 1 card. If this card is destroyed by an opponent's card (either by battle or by card effect) and sent to the graveyard: you can special summon it. If summoned this way, banish this card when it leaves the field. You can only use the special summoning effect of "Magic Ribbon Maiden" once per turn.

Gotta be honest, both have a lot of problems.

My main problem with card A is the fact that it reacts to something while face-down. There's a reason why there's only a handful of monsters that do that - that reason is that, since the beginning of the game, monsters have been established to not be active if they are face-down, and only become active when they are flipped face-up. It's a convention, so to speak, of the game. Even though it has lost its importance with the multitude of effects that trigger when a monster is destroyed, whether it was face-up or face-down, it is bad form to step on it. Not too hot on the second effect... overall card feels like a glorified Mystic Tomato with a bit more versatility.

Then there's card B which is... oh god why flip-and-draw. Seriously, that is the most interesting effect people can come up with? Otherwise just a generic revival effect which is ok in terms of balance but nothing to write home about in terms of originality.

Given those facts, and the fact that card A at least has a considerably better image than generic-moe-anime-girl-#23442... my vote will have to begrudgingly go to card A, even though I don't really like it.

I f***** NOT agree with this

as stated, Card B is too bland, although the effect is quite balanced, but both cards' effects are balanced honestly, so I have to vote by the obviously different point, creativity, Card A got my vote
