The Memory Requiem - Philosophy and Card Set [6/40] ~Epic farewell set~

This, Yu-Gi-Oh! Cardmaker, is my official farewell from this site

I have been here for 4 whole years, and by and by I've found both a fascinating hobby, and many awesome people, but also, this set.

What begun as the Memory Requiem was, I admit, a rather noobish attempt at a decent thread at first, but what I saw in this archetype soon became little less than my entire Life Philosophy. Not to mention it has ever since its creation been the best set I've ever made.

The whole point of living is encountering strife and happiness, and what is more important of these two to handle are the negative memories of our lives. I have set out on a mission to make my memories the bricks on which I found my future life, and as such, memories are a vital part of my life. What you may cherish or hate shape you, you'll have to admit. As such, pile your memories on top of each other, happy and sad memories; every emotion you've felt. Make it form a tower, high above all else. It is the requiem of the old you, a constant reminder of a time gone by and the throne of your ever-changing future! That, my friends, is the Memory Requiem.

The set is about damage and destruction, how to balance powerful effects with massive amounts of damage, and figuring out the best way to advance and claim the game. It has taken me 3 years to make complete, but now I'm finally putting these words to your name: Memory Requiem, I declare you open and soon to be finished! Enter, my grand finale!
In this archetype, you'll encounter the new game mechanic Memory Zones. This is a to-the-point summary of what the mechanic is about:

- Every one of the Memory Requiem monsters form a Memory Zone of the Monster Card Zone they're on. This Zone turns to normal should the monster leave the field.
- A monster in a Memory Zone is treated as Level 0 at all times.
- If all monsters you control are in Memory Zones, your opponent can attack you directly.

Of these images I claim no ownership, except for a fair few, which I shall point out. Even there, I have used renders not belonging to me. The ownership of all my used images are to their rightful artists, not to me.

Author's notes: If you're ever in need of an outlet to destroy a huge Torment or to trigger one of the many Memory Requiems' effects, this card will prove to be highly effective. The burn of this card with the burn of Torment can deep-fry opponents quite easily, and the first part is a bit french, but original, if I may say so myself.

DARK

When this card is Summoned, treat its Monster Card Zone as a Memory Zone. While this card is in a Memory Zone, apply the following effects: * This card cannot attack. * Whenever you would take damage, this card gains an equal amount of ATK, instead. *When this card is destroyed, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the ATK of this card.

Author's notes: What to say about Torment, besides it being my favorite cards out of all I've ever made. It is a Level 1 monster with an absurd ability, though without further support, it is very frail. You should, however, never doubt the explosive possibilities of this card. I have come to name the last effect of Torment, "Purgatorio Dolorosa" and whoever knows what that means is clever. That besides, thank you, Torment. This is your final design, and I like you as much as I did when you were called "Memory Requiem -Anguish". The image is made by me with a render belonging to Wen-M of Deviantart.

My philosophy on this card is that pains accumulates. I am not talking about the pain you get from scratching a knee, but the pain one can suffer through the loss of persons you love. The pain will continue to add up untill you're ready to let it go, and so the pain leaves you and flies away... into the Life Point meter of your opponent that is.
DARK
Fiend / Effect
ATK 0 / DEF 2000
You can Normal Summon this card in face-up Defense Position. When this card is Summoned, treat its Monster Card Zone as a Memory Zone. While this card is in a Memory Zone, apply the following effect: * Once per turn, you can Special Summon 1 "Memory Requiem" monster from your Graveyard, except "Memory Requiem - Dread".

Author's notes: Your formations may be withered away from time to time, so Dread confers wicked utility in providing you with a persistant force. Of course, it needs to be able to be Summoned in face-up Defense Position, as this having to be Summoned in Attack Position would make it very frail. You will never be tired of seeing this guy on the table, bringing back destroyed comrades. The image was made by me from a render whose origin resides with Wen-M of deviantart.

My philosophy on this card is that Dread is a terrible thing when handled incorrectly. You may try to combat your problems over and over, and try to avoid the menacing thing that is this feeling, but your troubles will rarely stop until you locate and eradicate its true origin. Confront your fear or be overwhelmed by it.
*****
DARK
Fiend / Effect
ATK 1700 / DEF 1500
If you control a face-up "Memory Requiem" monster, you can Normal Summon this card without Tributing. When this card is Summoned, treat its Monster Card Zone as a Memory Zone. While this card is in a Memory Zone, apply the following effects: * Monsters you control gain 500 ATK. * Your attacks cannot be negated.

Author's notes: Infuriate your monsters, and you'll see that their prowess in battle increases drastically. Rage is a very common emotion, and as such, it is easy to Summon, and the ATK boost it gives all your monsters (including itself) should push your battle lines over the top of your helpless opponent. The extra ATK can also add a slight edge to the ka-boom of your Torments, and it also makes your attacks unstoppable. Nice. The image is taken from JazinKay's awesome gallery.

My philosophy with this card is that Rage, as common as it may be, must be treated with caution. You might have a bad day and become mad, but if you cannot control that force, you might get smacked by its consequences. It is hard to quench the fires of fury, but if you can manage it, it will prove an ability of great value.

Spell Card
Normal
Inflict 400 damage to your opponent for each Memory Zone on the field. During your Standby Phase, if you control a face-up "Memory Requiem" monster, you can take 500 damage to add this card from your Graveyard to your hand.

Author's notes: Now, this might be overpowered, I don't know, but at the very least it's a powerful recurring burn spell. With time I might lower the damage to 300 or so. I quite like it. Any opponent will not.

Spell Card
Normal
Activate only while you control a face-up "Memory Requiem". You take 1000 damage and draw 2 cards.

Author's notes: This card is very simplistic, as is every single other "draw 2 cards" cards in the game. Needless to say, it is useful for the archetype.

Trap Card
Normal
Activate by sending a "Memory Requiem" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard when your opponent declares an attack. Destroy all face-up monsters your opponent controls with less ATK than that monster. Then, your opponent takes damage equal to the highest ATK among monsters destroyed by this effect.

Author's notes: I love this card! Not only because it is so very useful as a defensive weapon, but also as a counter-strike. I quite like how I managed to form this card and it would be a welcome addition to whatever Memory Requiem deck I'd have decided to make. The image is also very awesome. It also helps Dread out a little bit.
~Expect to be seeing more soon.

Img is Brilliant and so is the name.
OCG looks solid.
Effect is original.
I'm not quite shure about it's ballance though. At 1st glance it's attack restriction may limit it's use, however combined with some self-damage cards. It might grow deadly quite quickly. Also it might have some use combined with ME's for a nice burn when it's destroyed by for example "Destruction Ring" (and obviously also with the other "Memory Requiem" cards).
Anyway, I like the general idea and the story behind it.

A 9.8/10 (a 10/10, if I lateron decide that it's ballanced)

Your'e leaving? Well, let me be the first to say farewell. I hope you have enjoyed your time here.

On the card, it is very good in my opinion, and i like the concept of it. I have to say, i dont like one idea of "Memory Zone"'s, and that is the fact that if all your monsters are in them, your opponent can attack directly. That seems unfair, as you would be unable to defend yourself, except with Traps, which are usually very low in a deck, although, this card makes up for that weakness, it wouldnt stay on the field for very long.

Torment is intended to work that way, as the archetype is overall very frail without him. Believe me, the set has been printed out and playtested. Your board position does little more or less than depend on Torment most of the time, and it is made so that if it's attacked, it dies before gaining ATK, which could very well mean that it gets hammersmacked at 0 ATK sometimes. Your opponent can also limit its power by destroying it earlier.

Thank you for the rating.

The power levels of both monsters are intentional, as this set really is unstable from time to time. Being able to attack you directly is a greater deal than it seems like, especially when you don't have Torment, or your opponent destroys your defences. That is what I justify the powerful effects with.

Spirit Barrier defies one of the many aspects of the set, as you want to be able to take damage. Torment, the main card in the set, loses a lot of power due to it. The rest of the cards in the set will play additionally off damage, but you do have a point, only one I have chosen to evade.

Thanks for the rate, though, old friend. :)

1st card > So you cant take damage while this card is on your field?

2nd card> seems will be most useful in this Archetype. Like it and love SS freak

3rd card> Do you mean by attack cant be negated? it just affected Negate Attack and its fellow or D.Prison also?

1st: In principle, no, but if you attack it, it will be destroyed if it has less ATK before it gains any more.

2nd: It is very useful, yes. But what is SS Freak?

3rd: You can destroy them with Mirror Force and the like, but cards like Magic Cylinder will burn you, but not negate the attack.
