Nasty people in abundance

I saw something today that got me furious for the last time...

Another helpless new user being victimized by about 10 ... Things...

Trolls is not an appropriate term. Hyenas is.

I come from an older site filled to the brim (At least it used to be) with loads of trolls and hyenas. And if there's one thing I hate, it's a bunch of hyenas (A person or group of people who are unnecessarily nasty for little or no reason.) attacking someone.

Today's feast was about a user posting a thread on helping people with social problems. Well, as I saw he was almost immediately shot down, attacked and had his face slid through the mud.

It's not just this one post people... It's happening almost EVERYWHERE on the site.

I see it usually once a day, sometimes more. Users being attacked by the same individuals, which, by the way, seems to grow every day. It seems to have spread from the tcg section (No offense, the truth, not that everyone in the tcg is nasty for no reason... Just that if someone steps into your territory without knowing what they're doing, you f***ing blast the s*** out of their humility without warning) to other sections. I for one would like to see a stop to the bs violence going around here.

I thought we were all better people then that?

It's happened to me a number of times. I know what it's like to be attacked in this manner. And it's not only people who do the wrong things, usually (Yes, not all cases are like this. Sometimes you have reason to attack them, it's just that you usually do it in massive excess) it's people who are new to the site and don't even know better!

When I joined the site I was attacked and banned for double posting when I had no idea of the rules or star system even. I then was banned for making a new account because I didn't know better... And attacked... And attacked by tcg section for making bad comments for a deck about a year ago.

Nothing I can do really except tell everyone about the growing threat of people who I all of a sudden can't stand anymore. The people whop act like total jackasses to everyone who does something wrong or posts something that doesn't make sense or is in the wrong section. (This is wrong, but instead of attacking the user you may want to consider asking a mod to re-locate...?)

I won't mention names... Why make me do the work? I guess I'll wait for the crows to arrive themselves... I am simply saying that things need to change around here. This is not a site for needless jabroni-sicity, it's a site to talk and be merry and make cards. You, me and everyone else knows that this site would be 10fold better without people constantly slamming other members.

Just because we get somewhere around 240 members avg a day, doesn't mean we get to attack extra members... It means we should welcome them and give them extra chances when they do something they don't know is right.

I'm not asking for your opinion, for your help, (I don't need it, the victims do) I'm asking you to become aware... And help out those in need next time you see a pointless attack.

You have to understand that for every 1 Awesome member we will get around 1000 1 Post or Spammish Members. This tests the patience of the Members that are already here. The Newbie has to make the right move to fit in with the crowd. "Respect others and they will respect you"

Also the whole "Social Problem" thing is sometimes seen as Attention Seeking. I happily welcome members with open arms if they are friendly and willing to learn the Ropes of YCM. This has been further strengthened since becoming a Mod. Someone who makes a Annoying thread in CC. I'll usually just Lock rather then Warn,.

The fact that we get "1000" newbish members and the fact that some have experienced it longer then others doesn't justify it any better.

Just because you've been around in life longer and have seen more hardship doesn't you any more to kill a person.

And I know for a fact that the first thing a new member doesn't think about it asking the ropes of the site. They don't know better and are needlessly attacked. It's wrong and isn't justified an ounce by the fact that some users have seen more of it.

It's a lack of patience and social morality.

i agree. but you just have to read the rules before you go off just oposting random threads. thats why so many noobs are getting banned lately. read the rules and youyll be fine. example: i read the rules before i posted my first card. if you make a habit of reading the rules, then youll never get any warning level and people will not hyena you.

The real problem here is ignorance. New members joining and not reading the rules and spamming like they own the place. Members who have been here longer like myself simply get fed up with putting up with it.

And neither Trolls nor Hyenas can appropriately describe the actions of ganging up on a new member. I think the word you're looking for is bullies. Arguing or debating a fact is all good but not when it turns into an all-out flame fest.

it would be nice that everyone readed the rules at first... but that doesn't happen most of the times.. to be honest, when I joined I didn't even know where the rules where. looked at the place where the word "help" was written and just found a bunch of codes that I didn't even know what they were for... I eventually learned and thankfully, never got any warning level or neg rep since I joined :) ....

maybe there are more people passing through the same problem..... although I now know the rules are on top of every section... (I now slap myself for not even notising back then) ^-^"

Higher up members think too low of the newbies, we shouldn't be separated by a few stars, (well it's the card making skills that make all the difference) I spend most of my time correcting newbies, and quite frankly, I enjoy it, but the new members have to be corrected too often, and end up getting fed up and start spamming, if we give a nicer approach, it would probably make all the difference :) I support your thoughts

RacecaR, you are a hopless case.

Boo hoo, so we "attack" you, what's it going to do with you, bite your penis off? Get over it. It doesn't involve you, so stop trying to change these "jackasses" that you are ranting on and on about always, it only makes things worse.

Seriously, shut up for once.

You make a good point and this social problem thing I can't defend (plus it sounds like I'd be on your side) because I don't know the context. However, more often than not, when someone is being shot down it's when it starts of as criticism and correction and then the noob retaliates. They start to deny the mistakes and thus they become errors. Occasionally they start lying their way out of it. Then someone else corrects him and they start to get abusive and begin' to throw -negs around because they didn't do things the right way. They only get picked apart because they don't have the patience to take in what the more experienced members are saying. I probably haven’t explain my self well but it’s midnight so no one should expect me to.

Guest JoshIcy

I tried something like this before the Thread title was "Stop the Hostility" but then kind of decided in the end that it's just a Internet Forum' date=' if you are hurn IRL by anything that happenes here then Meh....

[/quote']

As even Claire admitted.

Rude attitude on that internet cannot be justified. As the very reason people can be rude, defeats its purpose. "Just because I can", no "Just because you will". There are still people typing and telling the computer what to do. It may be digital, but its masters are not blind. An expectancy of humanity is expected...

What did I admit again? =o

I forgot. I'm too lazy to remember.

I think it had something to do with waffle fries.

On topic: Ignore these "hyenas" and don't let them bother you. It's the internet, and you shouldn't let anything anyone says on here get to you. =)

Be like Switzerland, and stay neutral.

what I dont understand is even if someone messes up or breaks a rule because they are new why do people take the time to write nasty comments like I got a comment "Im not rating your because it doesnt have a picture" why did they take the time to write that just go under a different topic i can see people complaining if people are being unreasonable but isnt this a social site

RacecaR we didn't attack him. We tested his abilities and he failed. His advice would get Colonel Sanders sent to jail.

Testing =/= Attacking.

He shouldn't go around saying he's the best when he clearly isn't, that's just asking for people to prove you wrong.

We(The members who have been here for a long time) are fed up with noobs.

And just for the record i'm not a "Hyena".

Post count.

+1.

Fail.

I support hyenas and the acts they do.

Without them, the world won't spin.

No to the noobs and the 1000+ members of this site.

To noobs: view, then make. Don't assume and cook.

To 1000+ members: most of you are just as bad as noobs, thinking that you are all that when you aren't. I pity you all.

Lol.

We are "all" that.

I believe if we have been here long enough we get the right to be "all" that and be pissed of by n00bs thinking they own the place with their "cooking"
