~/Coolio Prime\~
If they make a fish who's effect activates when used for a Synchro Summon' date=' Coelacanth will become totally deadly.[/quote'] imma not seein da dedlinez Yeah, I noticed that after awhile. He'll only makes 7s though…which would work with Dark Dive Bombers. I was thinking of a fish that destroyed something when used as Synchro material or something, because destruction isn't covered in this combo. CrabHelmet
Anyhow, guys, consider this: with this card in existence, a wide variety of 2-card OTK's (the discard does not count) emerge. Furthermore, thanks to this card's restriction and otherwise lack of outstanding features, this card serves little purpose other than to instantly win in this manner. I see this combo as unacceptable to the game, despite the amount of dedication required; 2-card OTK's are bad news. Therefore, it is my belief that three options remain: 1) Ban this card. 2) Ban Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth. 3) Ban all relevant Synchros that possess sufficient ATK or otherwise sufficiently powerful effects that would allow such an OTK to work. Option 3 would involve banning all Synchro Monsters with 2600 ATK or more between the Levels of 5 and 8 that lack restrictive conditions or effects - along with several other monsters whose effects could deal sufficient damage. There already exist a variety of monsters that fit this description: Avenging Knight ParshathColossal FighterDark Strike FighterGaia Knight, the Force of EarthGoyo GuardianLight End DragonRed Dragon ArchfiendThought Ruler Archfiend And a few more could be considered borderline: Dulauren, Tiger King of the Ice Boundary (effect increases own ATK)Iron Chain Dragon (effect increases own ATK)Power Tool Dragon (fetches ATK-increasing equips) And even if you eliminate all of those, it will still be well-nigh impossible to stop Coelacanth from turning the one discard into at least 4000 damage. Therefore, I do not believe that eliminating the Synchro Monsters would be the best course of action in this situation. Hence, we kill Coelacanth to save this or kill this to save Coelacanth. I submit that Coelacanth gives more to the game than this does, and each is balanced in the absence of the other; ergo, we should ban this to save Coelacanth. Now, this begs the question of potential future low-level Fish-Type Tuners and how they would interact with Coelacanth. If and when additional such monsters are released, a re-evaluation would be in order to see if Coelacanth still gives more to the game than all such monsters combined. However, until then, Coelacanth gives more to the game, so he should remain legal. It doesn't even inhibit card design; future cards could include a clause that prohibits Special Summoning them from the deck, or makes their Tuner-ness an effect rather than an inherent property, or adds some additional restriction on what Synchro Monsters can be Synchro Summoned or on what the Synchro Summoned monsters can do, or something. And even then, banning Coelacanth is always an option.

CrabHelmet
How is it a 2-card combo? Coelacanth doesn't instantly summon himself. Precisely. It generally takes two cards to place Coelacanth on the field; the discard cost is ignored, as it can be any card in the game. As an example of two acceptable cards, Coelacanth + Mausoleum works. ~/Coolio Prime\~
Synchros shouldn't of been made in the first place, but if it's between Coelacanth and Royal Swamp King, I would say ban Royal Swamp King. Coelacanth is a much more original card that could help future fish that come out.

Fish don't need a Fish-Type Tuner to be playable, especially one that is worse than a Vanilla Tuner would be.
