Dad
Apologies for what may be a Necro Bump? Dx Anywho, I'm rather new to this Pokemon thing. I'm raising a Breloom, and I keep hearing stuff about sub-punch? His movelist so far is: SubstituteFocus PunchSporeMach Punch How exactly does that work? Spore, then FPunch (focus) and Substitute? I'm not really clear on this. xD
Felix
Spore on a slower opponent, or Sub on it to scout what it'll do and whether it'll be a switch. Don't use spore on a faster opponent, he's not bulky enough. If you used Spore your opponent will either stay in or switch out, if he stays in it's his own fault that you can now Sub-Up. More often than not, this now means you will kill or badly mame w/e they choose to take your immenent Focus Punch. If they keep the sleeping Pokemon in on the Focus Punch and you kill it, Spore the next Pokemon. Then SubUp if the Sub was broken. If they did switch this means you have to apply the Sleep Clause, you cannot use Spore until the sleeping Pokemon is dead, one at a time you see. When the opponent is faster and you have a Sub, don't worry about using Spore unless you expect Double Hit. His Item needs to be Toxic Orb and his ability Poison Heal. I find Seed Bomb to be a more effective secondary attack but if you already have some Grass moves to deal with the likes of Swampert and Suicune (among others) Mach Punch or Leech Seed is a good alternative. Dad
Well this being Emerald (I can't afford D/P right now) I'll go with Leech Seed. Any tips or changes to my current team? Felix
If it's on Emerald then the quality of your team doesn't really need to be high. You should get Shoddy Battle.
Spiff!
Anyone know a good all-round Battle Frontier team? I'm mostly in the Battle Dome and Battle Pike. I wanna keep my Sceptile in though, he has:Leaf BladeStrength (yeah, yeah, I know)Brick BreakSomething else, can't remember...
Felix
Sceptile doesn't work like that, Leaf Blade is fine but Brick Break and Strength are bad options. Plus, there is no team that could handle all of the facilitys well. You'd need one for each of them.
Spiff!
Yeah... I'm mostly in the Dome. And i'm kind of a n00b at pokeymans.
Felix
The Battle Factory is best for basic battling skills. Try and organize your choices like this: Sweeper at the front, strong and fast and will hopefully kill 1 Pokemon and at least mame another. Usually a strong physical attacker; CB works well. Your other two Pokemon should be a Pokemon with wide coverage and a basic wall who can take both Spectrums fairly well. Once you get a little bit better your team make ups can be a little bit more daring.

Tickle Me Emo
guys I needs help. I got 3 Physical sweepers and a Special sweeper along with 2 support. I wanna ditch 2 physical sweepers for another support and for a wall. My team will be atm a Scizor for PS, Starmie for SS, Roserade and Tentacruel for Support. I wanna add Aerodactyl for support but Im unsure if it would fit, and I dont know what wall to add. Suggestions?
Felix
Aerodactyl should be your lead. Without it you don't have one. Starmie isn't really a sweeper, it just doesn't have the power; it's better as a revenge killer.

It's a cool pokemon but it's outclassed by a lot of other things. For walls go with a Steel type (I like Empoleon, Metagross, Bronzong, Skarmory). Besides them you can use Blissy who is simply an amazing pokemon. Rotom can also make for a decent tank (I use a sweeper/tank set [don't ask] and it packs a punch, can make kills, and can also take some hits. Hell in some of my last Shoddy battles it's lived with only 2%-3% HP left)

I might go for Bronzong. infact I think bronzong can learn spin, so Maybe Ill have my team this: Rose as my lead, Scizor, Starmie, Aero, Bronz and someone to fill in for the 5th slot. Oh I forgot to add the 2 PS I removed were Glscor and Weavile.

You only need one if your team has a big weakness to SR. also Starmie makes for a great spinner if you want one. Skarmory has crap offence. He's used because he is one of the best phyiscal walls in the game. He can set up Spikes as well so he also makes for great support. Glscor and Weavile are good teams. I'll help make the team better later. I have other stuff I need to get done ATM. Hell I should be doing it now.

A large move pool, good special attack and great speeds give him all he needs. Give it a Life Orb and it's going to hurt. Unless you give it Hydro Pump, Thunder, Blizzard and something else, it doesn't it hard enough to properly sweep, even then it's still lack luster. If you do give it those moves it then becomes very unreliable. Revenge killer or a utility Pokemon in my eyes, they're are better options for a sweeper. This can't use a stat up move so here your limited to cutting your HP till your near dead just to get one boost. With others you can get the same boost with 1 sub. Some times you can get a couple of boost in before even the first sub breaks. Also most of the time the boost would be better since it comes with more. Perfect example is Calm Mind also ups defence.
