Saturn of Elemia
One of the top 3 survival horror game franchises. Seriously, this series is creepy as hell. Its horror value is only overshadowed by Fatal Frame (another of the top 3 franchises). Discuss the awesome series that is Silent Hill (except for SH4, which was bad). MarbleZone
So far, only played SH2, I'll start SH3 as soon as I have the time. Pyramid Head is the best videogame character ever. Period.

A ghost town without fog is just wrong. :P The best thing about Pyramid is the random encounters in the Old Society building, where you find Maria dead in the cell and the fact that he can pretty much kill you with one swing. Oh, ever tried playing through the hospital and apartment blocks with your light and radio off? I always play with the radio off, it's anticlimatic otherwise, but the light is needed sometimes - if it's so damn dark that you can't even see what's supposed to scare you, you're doing it wrong. :P

And yes, I always turn the radio off for the added thrill. The light, as you said, is much needed. I only turn it off if the area is heavily infested with enemies. That way I can sneak up from behind and bash them to death with the pipe...

Saturn of Elemia
Scary as' date=' well, yeah. The Movie was just as Creepy.Pyramid Head = One of the Best Horror Film / Game Characters ever.[/quote'] The movie followed the plot of the games much more than the Resident Evil movies ever did. The special effects were just mindblowing and sent chills down your spine. It's funny how they never 'truly' explain the origin of Pyramid Head in the movie or the games. Saturn of Elemia
There was a room in the third game that freaked me the f*** out when I first saw it. It was in the hospital. You enter the room and see a mirror on the wall and a bathtub. In the mirror, you see blood coming out of the bathtub and spreading out all over the room. After a while, the mirror image stops and the blood begins to come out of the bathtub on your end. You cannot leave the room until the blood hits the door. If you make contact with the blood, it begins to suck away your life. If you stay in there too long, you will die. Freaky moment...

I'm a huge fan of the series and I loved SH1-3 and 4 was good. Not as good as previous ones, but a must play for fans of the series. Silent Hill V just sucked. Also, I hate the hospital. Every time I go through it in any game, it scares the crap out of me.
Saturn of Elemia
I haven't played Silent Hill 5, but thanks for the warning on it. It seemed out of place since there was a new developer in the works for it. As for the hospitals, the one in the third game freaked me out the most because the walls were actually pulsating flesh in certain areas of the nightmare world... MarbleZone
The Hospital is pretty good, but personally, the apartments in the beginning of the story, where you get the gun and flashlight in SH2, scared me the most, if only due to the lack of resources and it being pitch-black. It was easy to get lost in the Prison and the Hotel got confusing with the rooms in the nightmare side. As for creepy music, the Hotel wins it out BY FAR! It is personal opinion, but the moaning noises you kept hearing in the nightmare side of the Hotel sent chills up my spine and the echoing music didn't help much... ragnarok1945
moaning noises? Wouldn't that just annoy the living hell out of you instead of scare you?
Saturn of Elemia
moaning noises? Wouldn't that just annoy the living hell out of you instead of scare you? In any cheesy and poorly-made horror game, perhaps. However, this is Silent Hill we're talking about. Just about every sound you hear in the game adds to the horrifying experience... Although there were not very many enemies in the niightmare Hotel, they hid well within the darkness and the water-stained hallways made it very creepy.... Saturn of Elemia
The Hospital stages in every game are the scariest areas of the game. Saturn of Elemia
Seeing the bloody nurses and doctors was what did it for me. The first left the most lasting impression, but they improved the horror elements in the later games (with the pulsating walls and such). The nurses in the other games looked far creepier and some even carried guns in the second (and third, I believe) game.
