Doom95 (the first doom except it was on pc)

IDKFA baby!

I forget what they were called but I liked those skeleton things that threw fire at you. The scared the hell out of me!

The only skeletons I know of are the Revenants (and they fire rockets at you). I was freaked out too the first time I played Doom. I wasn't ready for something like that. Now, I laugh when I see the game - but I still enjoy it.

IDKFA FTW!!!

Revenants weren't very powerful' date=' except maybe up close.

Besides, as long as you had the plasma gun you'll be just fine against them

Yeah, their punch was the worst thing about them. Thank goodness they weren't that durable. They also made nice crowd clearers and were easy to confuse. The Chaingun works well on them also. =p

I usually don't do that because the chaingun's rounds are too small' date=' doesn't destroy their projectiles in flight.

[/quote']

Since you can't destroy the rockets in the older games, that's not a factor. If you can catch a Revenant before they can fire the rockets at you, the Chaingun does just as good a job at stopping a Revenant as a Plasma Rifle does.

can you fool the homing rockets like in Doom 3?

To an extent. If you run around and side-step a lot, you can get them to fly off without coming back around. I just prefer to find a nearby enemy and between the rocket and the enemy. Then I watch as the Revenant and the enemy that just got hit go at each other...

interesting. I think in Doom 3 friendly fire is still on' date=' so you can damage nearby enemies this way too.

Only problem is when fighting Revanents for some reason there's usually no nearby enemies around

In Doom 2 and Final Doom, a Revenant is almost always accompanied by more Revenants or other demons (usually Imps). It's rare to find a lone Revenant running around - and it's usually in an enclosed area when you do.

that place isn't THAT open. It IS technically like a floating donut shaped rock you're fighting on

In the first game' date=' you're in a large arena with pillars and a few Lost Souls. In the other games, you can find them in all sorts of places - and sometimes find more than one Cyberdemon.

Nice. Doom 3 only had ONE Cyberdemon, and that was the end as the final boss

The first Doom had one at the end of Episode 2 and in the secret area of Doom 3. In Doom 2, Final Doon, and Doom 64, they were far more frequent. Once you got to around Stage 13 or so, you could expect to see Cyberdemons running around...

interesting. And they are still vulnerable only to the soul cube?

The Soul Cube exists only in Doom 3. In the other games' date=' a Cyberdemon would fall to standard weaponry - although it was recommended that you use a Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, or BFG9000 to even try and fight one due to their endurance. It would take about...

[b']Rocket:[/b] 20+ rockets

P. Rifle: 300+ cells

BFG9000: 3-5 blasts

...to drop one, unless you managed to get some enemies to help weaken it.

that would make the Cyberdemon weaker in the earlier Doom games.

If the Cyberdemon WAS vulnerable to the BFG9000' date=' it would take about 20 full charged blasts to kill in Doom 3

[/quote']

It was probably made stronger in Doom 3 since there was only one and it had that unique mechanic to kill it. The BFG9000 also couldn't charge in the older games. It had the same power level per shot - the amount inflicted depended on if you made a direct hit or not. If not a direct hit, then the proximity of the enemy to the blast determined the amount of splash damage received.
