Doom

well the Chaingun commando zombie you fight a lot too in Doom 3' date=' but they're barely ever a threat because when you use the chaingun, each bullet does 20 damage. But when they use it against you, each bullet only does 3 damage

[/quote']

It does more damage in the other games. Each bullet does about 8-12% of your life per hit (even when wearing armor). It's best to take care of them quickly. (Thank goodness that the Chaingun Dudes weren't in Doom 64)

well that's how it worked in Doom 3' date=' and for the most part you never have to fight more than 3 Commando zombies with chainguns at the same time

[/quote']

Sounds like Doom 3 lets you off easy. There are areas in Doom 2/Final Doom that could have 10 or more Chaingun Dudes in the same room all firing at you! Those rooms are not fun - unless you manage to get them all to fire at each other. It's usually rare to see Chaingun Dudes by themselves, though. They are almost always accompanied by other enemies - usually Zombie Soldiers, Imps, or Demons. You might see them with bigger demons every once in a while.

well Doom 3 changed that in if you try to get chaingun zombies to shoot at one another' date=' friendly fire does 0 damage

[/quote']

They took away the friendly fire aspect? That SUCKS! That helped you to conserve health and ammo SO MUCH in the older games - especially on the higher difficulties. Now I have to shoot EVERYTHING?

That's how I took out the Cyberdemons in the other games. Getting all the other enemies to defeat the big guy for me and weakening themselves made it to where I could use my PISTOL to take out Barons of Hell and the like with ease. =P

Quite a bit, actually. If you die, you lose all the guns you had from other levels and have to start with the pistol. If that happens, then it's best to get the enemies to kill each other to save ammo. Love that you get a free Chaingun when you kill the Chaingun Dudes. =D

well' date=' in Doom 3 if you die you just have to restart the level with whatever weapons/ammo you had at the beginning of the level

[/quote']

Okay, Doom 3 sounds much better already. I sure wish that were the case with the other games. If you die in the higher difficulties, you were basically screwed. That fact made it much harder to fight the Spider Mastermind in the original game if you died with all your good weapons. You then had to rely on the limited ammo you got from the Pistol and Plasma Gun you'd find. You had to get the surrounding Cacodemons to help you fight.

oh and as for friendly fire' date=' that only works in Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil due to the Grabber weapon, which allows you to catch the plasma balls the demons throw at you and throw it back at them

[/quote']

How useful a weapon like that would be against the Cyberdemon! I'd love nothing more than to hurl its own rockets back at it while saving my own! =D

Could also work against the Cacodemons and Barons of Hell/Hellknights. However, it probably wouldn't do too well against an Arachnatron or a Mancubus...

in retrospect if the demon is small enough' date=' you can grab them with it and throw them

And yes, with that weapon the Hellknight is a joke, takes only 4 hits from their own fireballs to kill them

Well, unless you're fighting like 5 of them all at once of course.

[/quote']

If I had that weapon in the older games, I'd use it to grab a toxic barrel and throw it right into a bunch of enemies and watch it explode and deal splash damage. How cool would that be?

Speaking of cool weapons, Doom 64 was the only game to have the special laser gun. It used Plasma Cells like the Plasma Gun and BFG9000, but fired red lasers. They were quite powerful. Supposedly, this was a weapon that the demons created. If you can find the 3 special emblems in 3 secret stages, you can power it up in the final level to double its power and allow it to fire in 3 directions.

that doesn't work in Doom 3. The moment you grab on of those they'd just throw a fireball at it to blow you up with it

At least the demons are intelligent in Doom 3, from what it sounds like.

I remember how they screwed it up in the movie. The said that the monsters were not demons at all. How messed up was that?

yeah I remember that, it was just a genetic mutation when they rebuilt the Chromosome 24 into a human being

Basically turning Doom into Resident Evil. No wonder the movie wasn't that great. At least the facility in the movie was the same as the game. The movie would've been MUCH better if they had actually went to Hell - as well as having ACTUAL demons! And we didn't even get to see that many demons. All we saw (from what I remember) was:

Imp

Pinky

Zombie

Hellknight

(Lemme know if I forgot any)

They could've AT LEAST given us a Cyberdemon or something. They could've said it was an experimental cyborg or something (with their lame excuse for not having demons).

Pinky was actually unique because there was only ONE (who still didn't fully resemble the game's Pinky since the game's Pinky had two mechanical legs whereas the film's Pinky had a wheelchair)

There should've been unique enemies in the games. Doom 3 and the expansion had the right idea with the bosses - even making the Cyberdemon one-of-a-kind. (It actually did what most FPS games were already doing with bosses). It just got lame and lazy in the other games having to fight multiple Cyberdemons.

Hoping that the same thing will be done if they make a Doom 4 - and hopefully the game will be LONG!

I want the Archville to appear in the 4th Doom if made

The Archvile, with its summoning ability, would've been better as a mini-boss or even a boss. Seeing so many in a room at one time in the older games was just plain ridiculous. In a stage of Final Doom, there was a maze and the only enemies were Archviles. I believe that there were about 10 or 12 of them and you had to kill them all before you could leave into the next area. There wasn't a lot of health or ammo in the stage, so you had to be quick to get rid of them or you were dead meat.

the Archville isn't very powerful you know' date=' only 425 hit points. And by then you have plenty of firepower anyway

[/quote']

That's too much to take out with a mere pistol or single barrel shotgun. Now try doing that with 10-12 of them when you won't know if one is going to be around the next corner or not. Chainsaw works good against them, though - provided you can get close enough to one without being blown away first.

If it were made into a boss, it would probably be a special one with double the health or something like that.

it's called using the BFG 9000.

Besides' date=' I've taken down an Archville along with the Revenant it summoned using nothing but the chainsaw

[/quote']

The BFG9000 takes out practically EVERYTHING. Unfortunately, that weapon is not in the stage I just mentioned. The best thing that you can find in that stage (if you die) is the Plasma Gun.

As for taking out an Archvile AND a Revenant with nothing but a Chainsaw...NICE. Must've gotten the one you were shredding to pieces between you and the other monster somehow.

As for Revenants, I HATE those things...especially their semi-homing rockets. The right hook isn't that big a deal, but those rockets are a pain in the arse. Personally, I always got the Revenants to take out crowds for me and let the other enemies deal with them.
