please. One of my friends fought a hellknight with his bare fists (without the hell cube that gives you the 1 hit KO move for a while)

If you can circle-strafe perfectly' date=' then it's easier. Having the Berserk stempack powerup also helps. Overall, not a smart idea to go with a chainsaw or fists. Most average players would get slaughtered trying it.

I prefer the pistol or shotgun myself.

In the Hell level you MUST fight one Hellknight with the shotgun. Later on I tend to get bored because there's so many so I switch over to BFG, rocket launcher, or chaingun.

For some reason I find the plasma gun not very effective

Yeah, it's better to go with the heavy hitter weapons for crowds. When singled out, you can use lesser weapons.

The Plasma Gun is better for taking out groups of smaller enemies quickly as opposed to taking out bigger baddies - unless its singled out. However, it's better to use the Chaingun in order to save Cells for your BFG9000 when you need it. In the original game, there was much debate on which weapon was better to use to take out the Cyberdemon - the Plasma Gun or the Rocket Launcher:

Rocket Launcher - Takes about 20 or so Rockets, but delay in firing time

Plasma Gun - Takes about 200-300 Cells and fires fast, but uses lot of ammo

the plasma gun does not require THAT many shots to kill' date=' more around the 65 shot range for a Hellknight

The stats I gave out were for the Cyberdemon, not the Hellknight.

As for the Hellknight, that sounds about right.

Just remembered the funny description for the Lost Soul in the Doom instruction manuel:

Small. Dumb. Flies. On fire. 'Nuff said.

Yeah for the Cyberdemon it'd take at least 250 shots. But it makes no difference in Doom 3. The Cyberdemon isn't vulnerable to anything but the Soulcube

That's what I liked about Doom 3: The Cyberdemon was one of a kind and had a special way of killing it. Couldn't it also instantly kill you by stomping on your or something like that?

if it got within close range' date=' yes.

You max out at 125 armor and 100 health. The stomp does 400 damage

At least it's nice to see a big enemy finally decide to say "You know what? I'm big! Why don't I just STOMP on the good guy and kill him?"

Also, I know that there is a boss in Doom 3 with a BFG9000 for a weapon. I think it was Sabaoth, if I'm not mistaken. It had tank tread legs and you had to fight on a small platform area. I bet that fight would be a ton of fun. In a FAQ, I read that you could shoot the BFG blasts to get rid of them...

Now for more specific fun (for everyone):

What was your favorite stage for each episode of the original game?

Episode 1: Phobos Lab (The music was awesome and the stage wasn't too short or long)

Episode 2: Refinery (Loved going all the way around to get to the exit that you could see right off)

Episode 3: Slough of Despair (The map layout was just plain cool)

I've never even heard of that one before. What's she like?

It wasn't much, really. Just a floating demon that fired flaming waves along the ground in multiple directions. If you got hit, you took a bit of damage and got thrown backwards. The only thing that made this fight difficult was the enemies spawning from the column in the middle of the arena.

reminds me of the Guardian I had to fight in Hell in Doom 3' date=' if he sees you he'll stomp the ground to cause fireballs to fire in all directions

[/quote']

I heard that boss was pretty tough to deal with. It had scouts of some kind floating around since it was (I'm guessing) blind. If you got located by a scout, then the Guardian would charge at you and dish out a large amount of damage. I don't remember how you were supposed to kill it, though...

please. If you have the rocket launcher the guardian's a snap.

See, the guardian itself is blind. The 3 scouts it summons out have searchlights to locate you. If you kill all 3 scouts, it will open a portal above itself to summon 3 more. That portal is its weakness.

At the very beginning of the fight it will open the portal to summon the scouts. You have the rocket launcher you can strip away up to 2/3 of its life before it has a chance to do ANYTHING

Well, that doesn't sound like much of a fight at all. Fighting against the Spider Mastermind in the other games seems harder than this thing... =/

Speaking of the Chaingun:

The Spider Mastermind got jipped in the long run. It was the final boss of the original game and was quite a formidable foe. Ever since Doom 2, it became a joke. Why?

1) The Chaingun Dudes - Common enemies wielding the awesome power of the Chaingun

2) The Arachnatrons - Mini Spider Masterminds with Plasma Guns instead of Chainguns that deal far more damage

The Spider Mastermind basically became a joke. Poor guy... =(
