Mainly because by the time I throw it, the enemy has moved away from the barrel

the grenade still has a splash radius u know. I prefer to use the shotguns on sheet heads cocodemon.

the chainsaw works wonders as well.

I don't recall in the outside environment you have to keep fighting the ticks

Thanks, because I seriously don't recall an entire swarm you have to deal with outside.

 

The closest is communications transfer, and that's only a small group

The original Doom games never went outside too much either. You might get a level or two devoted ENTIRELY outside, but for the most part you're still stuck inside...

There's no level in Doom 3 or ROE you play completely outside.

 

Still, most fight scenes outside could be handled quickly.

 

There was only one level in ROE where it was a little straining and danger in oxygen

Well, your character is wearing a helmet (although that won't help much without oxygen). Guess SOMEHOW Phobos and Deimos acquired an atmosphere. In fact, Phobos has GREEN mountains and a blue sky. (Deimos and Hell have brown mountains and a red sky).

 

There's are two stages in Episode 3 (Inferno - which takes place in Hell) that are set almost completely outside: Slough of Despair and Mount Erebus.

 

As for Episodes 1 (Knee Deep in the Dead - which takes place on Phobos) and 2 (Shores of Hell - which takes place on Deimos), you don't go outside all that much.

ROE's Phobos has no such thing.

 

There's nothing green in Doom 3 or ROE in the outside environment

the oxygen problem isn't there in the old ones.

 

 

I personally preferred Heretic and Hexen myself, I actually got a mod once that mashed Doom and Heretic together.

although, it is fun to use the spirit reaper on the demons, or a BFG on an Archmage.

 

(for those who never played Hexen or Heretic, the spirit reaper, the cleric's{ yes, we has classes, fighter melee man those weapons were still usable after they ran out of mana, mage the ranged sissy boy who got a bunch of stopper attack spells, and cleric the swarm killer who can't kill bosses for beans. } "super weapon" summoned up a bunch of souls that homed in and shredded the demons from the inside out, it is sweet. Archmages had a nasty habit of summoning monsters, and pigifying balls of doom {yes, pigifying, you got turned into a pig, which had no attacks except a pathetic 1 point point-blank bite, for a whole minute every time it hits you.})

I rarely actually use the BFG in the outside environment because the enemies you encounter are far too weak.

 

I can just kill them with the chaingun, shotgun, or plasma gun.

The only times I ever used a BFG9000:

 

1) If there is a Cyberdemon or Spider Mastermind in the room

2) There are at least 12-15 enemies in the room and I wanna save ammo

3) I have nothing else to use

I've never reached case 3 before.

 

Even against Hellknights and Mancubus I tend to use the chaingun, unless there's little room to manuver, in which case I'd be forced to drop them quickly
