I've played it once, but I didn't get very far. All the doors were locked. All I could do is play around with that mirror in the lounge that twists the room around. XD

To my knowledge, the story is...

 

Luigi has won a contest to get a mansion, one that he never entered. It was set up by Bowser and King Boo. Luigi must fight through ghosts to save Mario, but I think that's a trap, I don't remember.
