Hey, do you think the japanese versions of 'E. Hero Burstinatrix' and 'Dark Magician Girl' have a little too revealing clothes, if you know what I mean??

And to actually answer the question I would have to say yes and no, I don't think it's too revealing, but on the other hand it is a children's card game so I suppose for the youngsters :P it may be a little to graphic

Personally, I like the Japanese versions of the cards and show better. I like the Japanese Dark Magician Girl a lot better...

I have been to Japan and let me tell you, the people there dont even bat an eyelid when they see nudity or some forms of violence. I guess they can tollerate it more then some western people can.

 

Yu-Gi-Oh for example, 4Kids in the US took out every single frame of violence or sexual content in the entire show to protect young people, as not to expose them from such things.

Here are some of the things they did take out from most Animes in general including Yu-Gi-Oh.

 

- They replaced most Orchestral music from the show and replaced it with rap and hip-hop.

- They chose the most inapropriate voices for each character.

- They took out some vital plots, script lines, character traits and replaced them.

 

I know the show was ment for kids but come on, nobody likes to watch anything thats heavily edited, poorly dubbed and the majority of the plot taken out.

 

It realy gets me angry. :evil:

I agree, and another example of shows like that is Dragon Ball (Not Dragon Ball Z, I am talking about the original, good show), all the 'good stuff' was edited, but fortunately, I was still able to get some entertainment out of the show. :) :evil:

Ahmen, I hate 4kids!!!! The worst part is I can only find season 3 or GX in japanese form, I hate the english version. Tell me one reason why they have to change the cards??? It's pointless.

 

Luckily I can watch all other anime in japanese, phew.

Yugiohmastta meant that "Japanese" wasn't an appropriate answer for the question. If you would have said "No, I don't think the Japanese versions of the cards were too revealing" that could have considered an appropriate answer.

I'm pretty sure the reason they don't bat an eyelid to nudity is because none of their main religions make sex seem evil and unmoral. Like us with Christianity, there are some seriously strict rules and punishments for sex, or any humanly desires for that matter.

In truth, American censorship is so strict, because we in teh US have the habit of listening to the little, istead of the mass. For example, YouTube had been hearing complaint after complaint of companies angered over vids of full shows and such being shown. However, it was a few people who were jealous of one person's talent about satire in YuGiOh, and almost immediatly, YouTube shut down LittleKuriboh's YuGiOh the Abridged, EVEN THOUGH his work was protected from copywrite infrigment, as it was under the headed of satire.

 

What I am trying to get at, is that in the US, they are so scared of hearing complaint that they try to please everyone, no matter what it takes fromt eh point. I saw this intersting thing about the differences between YuGiOh GX in Japan and 4Kids, and although at first it doesn't seem like a big deal, you start to see how the little details they change detroy the plot. Those who hadn't bother to see YuGiOh GX season in the orignal anime, may not have know that the purpose of the Sartorius and the Society of Light WAS NOT for mind controlling the Earth's population, but the satalite was meant for ANNIALATING the planet of life. Edo (Aster Phoenix) was not looking for his father, but rather looking for the murderer of his father. And of course, if you didn't know, Judai (Jaden) little "Get your game on!" catchphrase is all 4Kids.

 

The only thing I think I liked about what 4Kids did was how they redid the character of Kensan (Tyranno Hasselberry) I could see him as a gung-ho soldier, and his phrases were all right. On the other hand, Atticus Rhodes? I hated his character in the 4Kids.

I think that the more we sensor than the less we'll get used to it so if kids have a lack of exposure then when they do see it, they'll be in shock!

yeah definitely. some people are sheltered for so long that they dont know how normal people act. like these kids on my street. they are like 14 and they still dont watch pg-13 and stuff. theyre also really immature.

I suppose it doesn't make any real difference but it's the principal of the whole thing. I think we should show all the young kids of America pictures of naked people... wait... that doesn't sound right?

If I surmised correctly that that means that you can only find Season 3 of GX in Japanese form, and you can't find 1 or 2, look at http://www.yugiohfans.co.uk. They have Dubbed, Subbed and Unsubbed (ie. full Japanese) of GX episodes (I think.). Unfortunately, they are missing a lot of Season 1 and all of Season 2 :(. I personally don't think the dubbing is THAT bad. If people hated it, they wouldn't watch it.

 

As for strict censorship, I think that GX is a little looser actually (compared to the original series). In GX, they say things like "scrub" (and even idiot, which I don't think was in Original) which I don't think happened in the Original (the worst they said was "damn" and that's in the movie, which was a good deal more lax than the normal series, I believe).

 

As for the less clothing debate, its' called 4Kids. Sometimes they go overboard (no death, "Shadow Realm") but "the Heart of the Cards" was just a sales gimmick kind of thing (kids watch it and think they are magic if they buy the cards). And, well, even if its' over the top sometimes and "badly dubbed", we can't deny one thing, thats' that it spawned one hell of a card game :).

 

PS. I'd trade a new episode of YGO for the Abridged Series anyday. Funny story: I saw Battle City arc, then YGO wasn't on TV for a while, within that time I saw the Abridged Series. When the Waking the Dragons (Orichalcos) arc came along, I noticed how the Abridged Series actually sounded better. Especially Kaiba, for some reason. LK's can dub all the characters alone better than the dub can with voiceactors one to a character.
