I think that gameplay is the major element of a good video game. I would actually rather play Super Mario Bros. 3' date=' or even 1 for that matter, over a game with amazing graphics and visuals.

Post = Win.

Consider this for a moment.

I am thinking of one of the best games in 2006 as far as graphics go. Seriously. It looks awesome, more so than many of today's titles. Interested?

Congrats, you just bought Sonic 2006. Enjoy your pot o' crap.

Also, it must have a good plot. Critics and sales charts will refute this with GTA, but GTA has enough gratuitous mature content to keep would-be critics happy. But honestly, a video game ought to be either a fun version of a movie or a CYOA with Wheaties. Plot is essential.

Needs to have good gameplay and at least passable graphics and sound. Good graphics and sound (as well as a good story) is just gravy.

I could care less about the story (unless it was good), even if the story is something like a clan of creatures that practice black magic turn people of a kingdom into bricks, stones, and plants, and where the princess of that kingdom, who is the only one that can put an end to this, is being held hostage by the leader of the clan.

Good graphics is nice. A nice plot' date=' possibly some customization and good controls.

Altough i am asking for a lot, i still play games with at least 1 of these traits.

depends how overkill the graphics are. I know plenty were not pleased with Crytek for releasing Crysis that ended up costing them well over $2000 for a new PC and still came nowhere close to maxing out the graphics (or for that matter barely even able to turn it up to high).

In terms of console gaming you don't have to worry about the graphics factor that much since it'd be able to run it smoothly, but some PC gamers simply will not accept being forced to buy an entirely new PC just to cope with the graphics problem.

As for the plot, I'd say as long as enough question are answered (or at least in the sequel) it should be fine

Graphics: It really depends. Getting a good graphic game with horrible gameplay sucks...alot (Think: NFS: ProStreet)

Gameplay: It is really important, the basic structure of every game.

Story/Plot: Quite important, free play is boring after a while (Think: SSBB). If it's a cartoon/movie based game, forget about this.

Violence: Meh

Other: Guitar Pedo

-Music. I prefer the Tony Hawk games and such due to using songs by real artists and not orchestra stuff like Star Wars.

-Multiplayer. Gameplay like the SSB series, Banjo-Tooie, or even James Bond.

-Gameplay. Just beat Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for Wii. Wow. Gameplayplay rox in that game.

-Difficulty and length. Completing all the tasks in Kirby: Air Ride was hard, as was SSBB or getting Platniums in StarWars: RougeSquadren III Rebel Strike. Finding each and every Golden Bannana in Donkey Kong 64 or getting all the Jiggies in Banjo-Kazooie took forever, that is why I love those kinds of games.

-Unlockables: Tons of Characters, levels, modes, ect.

^Those are what makes a game good, not graphics.
