[spoiler=Chapter 7]

Chapter 7 – Approaching Dark

November 14, 2008, 11:54 PM – Downtown Aequitas

The night air was cool and crisp. The moon was just coming out from under the clouds and illuminated the buildings below with its brilliant light. It was strange that on this night there was not a sound. No one was about; no thieves, bandits, or the enforcers of the law. No commoners, partiers, or homeless people. There was no one there. There was no sound.

It was even stranger for the fact that just moments before there was sound, and a lot of it at that. Down in the courtyard, the meeting place of several alleys behind many buildings surrounding it, there was a duel the likes of which no one could have imagined. It was a true test of strength, endurance, and will to survive. It was a common duel between the enforcer of the law, and the law breaker.

One man was in an empty building, just a few blocks south of that courtyard. He ran away from the area, not wanting to be caught once again. It was the criminal. He had won the duel against the member of the DPF.

The man wore a grey suit jacket with a dark shirt underneath and roughed-up jeans. His blonde hair was longer than he liked, hanging just over his dull, grey eyes. He was thinking that he would need to cut it or slick it back...

The criminal was sitting down on a box that happened to be in the empty building thinking to himself about the duel that had just happened. He didn’t want to win, he didn’t want to hurt the officer. But he needed to stay out of jail, and it looked like he had killed that DPF officer’s spirit. He did not take satisfaction in that at all.

“Joel Karne.” A voice called from somewhere behind him. He did not recognize the voice; it was someone he didn’t know.

Joel turned and looked back to find a man standing there. He didn’t look threatening; the only ‘weapon’ of sorts was a duel disk on his left arm. His skin was dark. His hair was black and it hung above his shoulders, and his eyes looked to be a startling blue. One interesting thing about him was that he had scars on his arms and face, the longest one going from his forehead to his chin near his right ear. Be wore a simple light blue shirt and jeans.

And yet there was something else strange about the man. He had lines on his face and arms, amongst the scars, that glowed a faint green color. Joel could also tell that there was a faint tint of green in this man’s eyes. Something was strange about this guy, but he had no idea what that could be.

“Who’s askin’?” Joel responded with trepidation after sizing the man up.

The man with the dark skin smirked, “You always were an interesting character, Mr. Karne,” the man said.

Joel cocked his head to one side, confused.

“Who are you?” he asked.

The man did something Joel least expected; the man burst out in laughter.

Once he calmed down he responded, “I have no name, but this body is called Onika Bakar.”

Joel got a little irritated. “Alright, Onika, what are you doing here?”

“That was a very interesting duel between you and Kal Iszarc, was it not?” Onika said, completely ignoring the question he was just presented with.

“I suppose, but what do you want?” Joel asked. He was getting furious with this man wasting his time.

Onika turned to face Joel better, “I have come to offer you something that you won’t refuse.”

Joel snickered. “What, are you part of the Mafia?”

Onika seemed confused by this, but paid it no mind. Silence ensued, and Joel was getting anxious.

“What are you offering?” Joel asked, finally giving in.

Onika’s face softened, feeling like he had won the battle. He walked forward, extending his left hand toward Joel almost as if he was asking for a handshake. But he wasn’t reaching for a hand.

He was over to Joel’s side in two strides and grabbed Joel’s right arm with his extended hand. Joel didn’t have a clue what was going on. He didn’t have time to react. Joel, out of instinct, tried to jump back. Onika had a firm grip; he wasn’t going anywhere.

Onika raised Joel’s sleeve with his other hand, exposing his bare flesh. Joel started to get scared.

Onika raised the index finger of his right hand and held it between his and Joel’s faces.

“I will give you more power than you can even imagine,” he said.

He turned the tip of his finger downward and jabbed it into the skin of Joel’s arm. For a moment Joel only felt the pain from Onika’s fingernail digging into his skin; he had it deep. But after that one moment passed he began to feel like his skin was on fire. It started from the point where Onika’s finger was touching his arm, but from there is spread. It moved up and down his skin, spreading the growing feeling of heat. It began to be unbearable.

Onika released him, allowing Joel to take as many steps back as he desired. His work was complete.

Joel took a couple of wary steps backward, staring at his arm in wonder. The burning was increasing in intensity, it was hurting him. Joel fell to his knees in pain, grasping his arm in a feeble attempt in dulling the agony. He let out a shriek.

“Do you feel the power rising within you?” Onika said, reveling in the torment that was brewing right before his eyes.

“I... feel... only... pain...!” Joel screamed between grunts and whines.

“That pain is just the beginning! Feel that immense power from the pain, from there you will find the strength to do anything!” Onika said excitedly.

Joel was reluctant to believe anything this guy said, but his reluctance was about to be tested. His arm started to glow the same green color that Onika’s lines and eyes glowed. His eyes, too, began to glow, and light began to pour from his nose, mouth and fingertips.

“That’s it!” Onika said, “Feel the power flow through you!”

Joel started to rise into the air from where he was on the ground. He ascended to the point where his feet were a few inches above the floor of that empty room. Light that was emanating from within him began to illuminate the room, pushing away the darkness with its unrivaled strength.

“Yes!” Onika loved this, “Feed on the powers of the Wind!”

Joel’s arm began to glow even more, forming into the shape of a rough bird. This light was powerful, powerful enough to melt his skin. The smell of burning flesh permeated the room quickly. Neither of them seemed to be fazed; Joel didn’t seem to notice this pain.

Suddenly a circle of light appeared under Joel. Inside this circle appeared a series of symbols, things that looked to be gibberish to anything Joel had seen before. Joel didn’t see this, though, he was unconscious at this point. His body hung in the air, head back, pouring light into the empty space around him.

The seal under his feet began to spin; light from Joel’s body was beginning to be absorbed by it. The seal sped up, blurring into a band of fast-traveling light at his feet.

Light exploded upward from the seal, surrounding him in a cage of sorts. It expanded into the air through the roof of the building, breaking through with its powerful energy. Suddenly the light collapsed on itself, forming a beam the size of a pencil that ascended far into the heavens above. Joel Karne wasn’t anywhere to be seen.

The light raised into the air with the speed of a gunshot, rising to a point high in the sky. It stopped, forming a small sphere of light. This light orb exploded and shot off into several directions at once, all disappearing into the night sky.

Onika was left alone. He smirked, seeing a job well done. The possessor moved his possessed body out of the building. His work there was done.

June 15, 2009, 11:37 PM - Downtown Aequitas

Kal let out a cry of anger, confusion and despair. He had seen his enemy destroyed right in front of his eyes only moments before, but he was starting to have second thoughts. Was Joel actually telling the truth? What was going on? Were the two of them actually friends in the near future? Could they be?

Kal believed that it was possible that he could get over this grudge, after all, it was just a simple deal. The only thing that Joel was evil for in this regard was of being too good of a duelist, and for beating Kal at his own game.

In Kal’s mind it also made less sense for what he had just seen. Joel had been destroyed, his physical body had disappeared in an explosion of green light that turned his body into light particles and dust. But out in the world at that moment there was another Joel Karne, the member of reality from this time. Somewhere in the future Joel Karne would come back in time to this exact spot, but that had not happened yet. At least, not the time that Joel Karne would jump back.

Kal was starting to feel better. He would just wait until the natural order of events would occur, and he would be friends with Joel Karne. But would he want that?

The last thing Joel had said before he disappeared was the most important thing to Kal in the moment that followed. He said that the elements were coming for him, but did he really mean that they were coming for him and him alone? Kal didn’t think so, he figured it was for him and his entire operation. But what Joel did didn’t make any sense: Joel actually gave Kal a head start.

What had he meant when they were not prepared the first time? Were they ambushed and forced into a big battle?

Kal was going through all the possibilities when the most unexpected happened.

“Interesting feat, the power that one person could possess.”

A voice came from behind Kal. In an instant Kal turned around to face the distracter.

It was a man with dark skin, dark hair and blue eyes. He wore a simple blue shirt with some jeans, and he had a duel disk on his left arm. He stood there with his hands on his hips, looking smug. He was completely at ease.

“Who are you?” Kal asked, incredulous that someone was around at that exact moment.

The man snickered. “Funny, seems that you and he are a lot alike.”

Kal was irritated by this guy and his satire, but that thought disappeared when he noticed something strange about him. His eyes glowed green, and he had lines on his arms and face that, too, glowed that faint color.

“You still haven’t answered my question.”

“Fine,” the man said, getting serious, “This body is named Onika Bakar.”

Kal thought that was a strange answer, but he went with it.

“What do you want?”

Onika began to pace, “You humans are all the same, ‘Who are you?’ ‘What do you want?’ ‘Why are you here?’ You all are a bunch of irritants that are blocking the way of our purposes.”

At that moment a light bulb lit in Kal’s head. He realized, a bit quicker than he should have, and with a bit too much guess work, what this man was alluding to. He wasn’t a human.

“Wind.” Kal stared at Onika.

Onika stopped pacing, turning to face him.

“You always were the insightful one,” he said, “I knew that you would figure it out.”

“Wait,” Kal said, “this doesn’t make sense. Joel said that Water would be here before you..”

Onika stared into Kal’s robotic eyes, his irises glowing with that greenish haze. “Joel Karne changed the events of history, altering events by coming back here and warning you.”

“What does that mean? How could one change history?”

“The simple act of time manipulation, by allowing him to transport himself to any time and place he desired, allowed him to tweak the events of history. He has done too much, things that we cannot fix.”

“Why can’t you fix them?” Kal asked. He was generally intrigued by this idea of time travel, but he also wanted to know what Joel actually did before he died here in Aequitas.

Onika stared at him with a coy look, “We cannot edit events multiple times. It is hard enough to set history on another path, but changing it more than once could damage the entire framework of existence.”

“You mean to say, if you erase the page once it can be fine, but if you continue you could rip the eraser right through?” Kal asked tentatively.

“Exactly,” Onika said, appeased. Kal was a quick study, and in this area he was quickly learning things he hadn’t thought of before.

One more thought was bugging Kal, “Why are you being this cordial with me?”

Onika dropped his head, trying to find a good answer. He looked back up after a moment, not seeming to have found one.

“After all this, I am still rooting for you,” was all that Wind, from Onika’s body, said.

Kal wondered what that meant. He had studied all the events and determined that all of the elements should be angry with him, not all but one. This answer made no sense to him.

“Kal, I do not want to do this, but...” Onika raised his left arm, triggering the sensors in the duel disk to activate. It unfolded, transforming into a portable dueling platform right on his arm.

“I thought you said you were rooting for me?” Kal asked, incredulous.

“The events of history have changed. Water is still on its way, but you are not yet ready to face something of that power. I have been rooting for you, Kal Iszarc, and to help I have changed the events of history as well. Today is the day of change, the say Joel Karne appeared back in time, and the day I once again took up this physical body to help change this for the better. Through this duel, I hope to make you strong enough.”

Kal was taken off guard. He was just challenged to a duel, one that his opponent truly didn’t want, and was told about this element’s past. He wondered just why the powers of the Wind Collective took up the body of Onika Bakar in the past as well. But he had no time to ask.

“Accepted,” Kal said. He raised his left arm, allowing his biomechanical duel disk to transform out of his arm. His jacket sleeve ripped open along the seam, as it was designed for, to allow the disk to appear without damaging the coat. His wrist slid downward and off of his direct arm to allow his deck to come sliding out to where his hand was supposed to be. The top of his skin transformed into a holographic screen that read 8000. This was the only benefit from his Cyborg transformation back a few months ago.

Duel!

Kal: 8000

Onika: 8000

They each drew their hands, waiting for the other to lay down the defeat.

“I’ll go!” Onika said, “And I Summon my Lone Battler, Yoxera!”

A warrior who appeared to be made of highly pressurized water appeared, holding a sword made of a similar material. His glowing red eyes looked fierce; he was a tough warrior. 1800/1800/LV4

Suddenly the water started to intensify; the liquid went faster. It grew in strength. ATK: 1800~2400; DEF: 1800~2400.

App: A dark blue humanoid-shaped creature with piercing red eyes, it is made of what appears to be rushing water, it wields a large long sword made of the same material. The water in fact has massive pressure and can easily crush and destroy what apposes it.

“When it is the only monster I control, my Yoxera gains 600 attack and defense points,” Onika explained.

Kal took one look at his hand and thought just one word: crud.

June 15, 2009, 11:44 PM - Succurro - The Palmarium

Talia: 8000, 3

Geoff: 8000, 2

“Just wait for the onslaught!” Talia said, feeling the power of her field advantage.

She controlled three monsters: Edie, Lightsworn Savior; Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner; and Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior. Her three monsters trumped Geoff’s: he controlled only a level 2 warrior, Gemini Soldier. However, he did have a Field Spell Card and the Equip Spell Broken Bamboo Sword, both of which would do nothing to save him. He also had a face-down card, hidden behind his Soldier.

“Now that I have a Level 2 Tuner monster and a Level 4 non-Tuner monster, I use them in a Synchro Summon to Summon a level 6 Synchro!” Talia said.

Edie jumped into the air, transforming into a green, translucent form of herself. She broke apart into two green rings, which fell down and surrounded Garoth. He dissolved into four orbs of white light, and in an instant the six objects collapsed onto each other to form a beam of white light. The light began to fade, and in its place arose a new monster.

It was a glorious woman wearing white armor. She had wings, and she looked menacing. 2350/1800/LV6

When this card destroys a Monster by battle, you can send the top 3 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard to add 1 LIGHT Monster in your Graveyard to your hand.

“Now, my Angela, attack his puny Soldier with your Eternal Judgment Strike!” Talia said. The angel rose into the air and put her hands over her head. From the palms of her hands came a burst of light that ran straight down upon the tiny warrior on Geoff’s side of the field. The little man was hurt, but when the light faded he was still around.

Talia: 8000, 3

Geoff: 6150, 2

“What happened?” Talia asked, perplexed.

Geoff started to chuckle.

“My Gemini Soldier, once it gains its effect, cannot be destroyed by battle once per turn. Also…”

Suddenly flames erupted right next to the Soldier, focusing into a synthesis of sorts. The Soldier seemed to focus his power and condense the flames into a monster: a warrior with red armor brandishing a sword. The white half of a yin and yang symbol appeared behind him as well. 1900/900/LV4

This card is treated as a Normal Monster while face-up on the field or in the Graveyard. While this card is face-up on the field, you can Normal Summon it to have it be treated as an Effect Monster with this effect:

● You can send 1 face-up Equip Spell Card you control to your Graveyard to destroy 1 card your opponent controls.

Talia was getting more confused.

“What happened now?”

“When my Soldier battles I am able to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Gemini from my Deck. This is my Evoltector Chevalier!” Geoff said.

Talia still had one monster on the field. It was Lumina, the 1000 ATK monster that she used to get the Synchro Material to get her Synchro Monster. It was not nearly powerful enough to destroy the new monster that suddenly appeared, but it was possible to attack the Soldier. His effect to negate destruction was already used, meaning that it would be destroyed. But now that he was in a battle, Geoff would be able to Summon another monster to his side of the field. Talia didn’t want that to happen, but she wanted to allow him to keep that little pest even less.

“Fine. But now my Lumina will pick up where my Angela left off!” she declared. The woman in the white toga ran forward and punched the little warrior in the face, eliminating him from the field.

Talia: 8000, 3

Geoff: 5650, 2

A beam of light appeared in the place of the little Soldier, focusing and condensing into a new creature. A man in blue appeared next to the man in red, and he, too, held a sword. The black side of the yin and yang symbol appeared next to the white half. 1600/1200/LV4

“This new monster is my Future Samurai.” Geoff explained.

Talia didn’t care.

“During my End Phase I send the top 3 cards of my Deck to the Graveyard for the maintenance cost of my Lumina.”

She picked up the top three cards of her Deck and put them in the Graveyard slot.

“Damn, no Wulves…” she thought out loud.

Geoff chuckled a bit. “My move, I suppose?” he said as he picked up the top card of his Deck.

“I activate the Spell Card Requip!” Geoff said.

The Spell Card opened, revealing a green-bordered card. Suddenly a sword of bamboo appeared in Evoltector Chevalier’s other hand; it was broken.

Select 1 Equip Spell Card in your Graveyard and equip it to 1 Monster you control. Then you can add 1 Equip Spell Card in your Deck to your hand, it cannot be activated this turn.

“This card allowed me to equip my Evoltector Chevalier with the Broken Bamboo Sword that went to the Graveyard with my Gemini Soldier last turn, and it also allowed me to add my Big Bang Shot Equip Spell Card from my Deck to my hand!” Geoff said.

He gathered the Spell, and then he activated another card.

“Since I control a Bamboo Sword Equip Spell, I activate the Spell Card Golden Bamboo Sword. This allows me to draw two more cards.”

The Spell Card activated to reveal a glorious golden sword. The broken sword in the red warrior’s hand glowed for a moment, and then Geoff drew two more cards.

“Now I remove 2 Gemini Counters from my Field Spell to activate the latent powers of my Evoltector Chevalier! And since I have not Normal Summoned this turn, I will give up that Summon to activate the Special Abilities of my Future Samurai!” Geoff said.

The yin and yang symbols came together and glowed. They released their energy into the man in red, giving him new-found strength. At the same time the man in blue glowed, finding more strength as well.

“Now I can activate both of their effects! My Evoltector Chevalier can destroy 1 card you control! And at the same time my Future Samurai can remove 1 monster in my Graveyard from play to destroy 1 monster you control as well!”

Geoff moved the cards around, sending the Equip Spell Card to the Graveyard and removing the Soldier from the Graveyard and placing it in one of the many pockets on his jacket. Suddenly flames erupted from the Chevalier, and light poured from the Samurai. In seconds the light and flames decimated the opposing field, leaving Talia with nothing on the field to protect her. Both the woman in the toga and the angel in armor disappeared.

“And now this leaves you wide open for an attack!” Geoff said. At that, both the man in red and the man in blue went forward and sliced the points away from Talia.

Talia: 4500, 3

Geoff: 5650, 4

“I will finish my turn with a second face-down card, and you may make your move.”

Geoff slid the card into the slot with a bit more enthusiasm than he should have. He was having a grand time, allowing his opponent to do whatever she wanted while he could counter it at a moment’s notice.

Talia wasn’t as jovial. She drew her card in silence.

She grinned.

“Interesting what things can go unnoticed when you are not paying attention,” she said.

“What do you mean by that?” Geoff asked.

“What I mean is that I have four differently-named Lightsworn in my Graveyard.”

Geoff flipped out; he knew what was coming. “What? How? You have Edie, Lumina, and Garoth. Angela doesn’t count, since she isn’t a Lightsworn…”

“Ah, but when I sent the top three cards of my Deck to the Graveyard I sent another: my Celestia.”

Geoff’s heart sank. He knew what he was up against.

Talia pulled one card out of her hand and held it up high, triumphant.

“I Summon my all-powerful, my mighty, my unstoppable creature of fate!” she said, “I Summon the Judgment Dragon!”

She slammed the card onto her Duel Disk, lighting up the holographics. The air currents in the room changed, whipping their hair around their faces. Trey and Alan watched with a sort of glee that both of them, if asked, would deny outright.

A majestic dragon appeared behind Talia, too big to stand in-between them. 3000/2600/LV8

Geoff took a step back, wary.

“Now I will activate his ability! By paying 1000 Life Points I can destroy everything else on the field!”

Talia’s life depleted itself, and then the dragon poised to strike. Its wings opened and rays of light began to unfold.

Talia: 3500, 3

Geoff: 5650, 4

“Go Light of Judgment!!” Talia said.

The dragon was about to unleash its full force when Geoff started to chuckle.

“You still don’t know how to check your surrounding area, Talia. I activate my Trap Card!”

One of those two face-downs opened, revealing the card that had been there since Geoff’s first turn.

Suddenly the dragon’s light disappeared, and then it got sucked up into a void that appeared above it. In a flash the glorious dragon was gone.

“Fine, then I Set one Monster face-down and end my turn.”

Geoff chuckled to himself, enjoying the moment. He drew his card and looked at what it was.

“I activate my other face-down card, Birthright! This allows me to Summon the Monster that I discarded to activate my last Trap’s effect, my Phoenix Gearfried!”

Flames appeared from between the two soldiers that were already on Geoff’s side of the field, making way for his ace monster. A man with glorious white armor appeared; he carried a sword bigger than the other two. Half of the yin and yang symbol appeared behind him. 2800/2200/LV8

This card is treated as a Normal Monster while face-up on the field or in the Graveyard. While this card is face-up on the field, you can Normal Summon it to have it be treated as an Effect Monster with this effect:

● When your opponent activates a Spell Card, you can select and Special Summon 1 Gemini Monster from your Graveyard. Also, you can send 1 face-up Equip Card you control to the Graveyard to negate the activation of a Spell or Trap Card that targets a monster on the field.

“Next I activate the Equip Spell that I added to my hand last turn, and equip it to my Phoenix!”

He took the card from his hand and placed it in one of the card slots. The man in white armor then began to glow. The other yin and yang symbol appeared next to its other half. ATK: 2800~3200

Talia was getting excited. That strong monster wouldn’t stand a chance against what she had waiting for him.

“Now I will remove the two tokens from my field spell to treat him as a Gemini Monster, and have him gain his effect!”

Talia thought, ‘It doesn’t matter, his effect doesn’t protect your cards against monster effects!’

“And since I have yet to Normal Summon this turn, I will Summon the last Monster of the duel.”

Talia stalled for a moment. “H-how would you know that?”

Geoff grinned. “Because I have seen all the possibilities, and I know what I have to Summon in order to win this.”

Talia freaked. Did he actually have something up his sleeve?

“So I Summon my monster called Energy Brave! Once Summoned he protects all Gemini Monsters on the field that have been Second Summoned! And since they all are, they can’t be destroyed by what you have lurking under your face-down Monster.”

Talia’s heart sank. It hadn’t even been her third turn yet, and he was about to win.

Geoff placed the card on his disk; a man without a shirt and wearing blue pants appeared, concealed by lightning.

To see this card, go to: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Energy_Brave

“Now my Future Samurai will attack your face-down monster.”

The man in blue armor raised his sword and went for the attack. The card flipped, it was a little dog wearing shiny-white armor. It barked, but it didn’t harm the man in blue. His bite went to the only card possible, Energy Brave. Since he was not a Gemini Monster he didn’t protect himself, so when Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter flipped and had his effect triggered it was the only card that could be destroyed.

The man in lightning disappeared.

Talia’s heart sank further. She sent the top three cards of her Deck to the Graveyard for the effect of Ryko, but she found nothing. She was done.

With his remaining two cards, Geoff went on the offensive. With two strikes Talia was out, no life remained.

Talia: 0

Geoff: 5650

Talia began to cry a little.

Geoff took off his disk and walked over to her.

“Hey there, darlin’, don’t cry. You just need a few more Traps and protection cards in there, is all. Find the balance point, you’ll know where it is.”

Talia looked up to her consoler, “That isn’t what I am crying about.”

Alan looked over, the cheer on his face disappearing along with the holographic images of the last three warriors on the field.

“I wish that Kal were here to console me…” Talia wept even more.

Trey got irritated. Now that the duel was over he was not distracted anymore. He realized once again that he wanted answers, and that he had not yet got them. Where was that Kal Iszarc anyhow?

“Where is Kal?” Geoff wondered at that very same moment, thinking out loud.

What they didn’t realize was that he was having an impromptu duel, one with a member of fate.

June 15, 2009, 11:51 PM - Downtown Aequitas

Kal wondered what to do. He had never received a hand this bad before, and to go up against a 2400 attack monster in the first turn! He had never had that before either. This Onika Bakar was quite the duelist.

“I end my turn,” Onika said. He put his hand in his pocket. He was completely at ease with the situation. He had pulled off an opening move that no one else could. He had this set up and ready to go.

Kal drew his card, looking for any hope in his bag of tricks.

He got something.

“I place 1 card face-down, and end my turn.”

Kal didn’t let his face show what fortune he had. He was just lucky that his deck balance didn’t negatively affect him. When he got back he would need to give it a tune up.

Onika was curious. It wasn’t like Kal to set a card face-down only, his deck figured on the offensive. It had to be a Trap, he never had Spell Cards that he placed face-down. What could that Trap Card be?

“It’s my turn!” Onika said as he pulled the top card of his deck out of the slot.

Little did he know that Kal had drawn the card to form a perfect strategy with the cards in his hand. Onika was about to receive the best duel of his life.

Next Time on Yu-Gi-Oh! TC…

Onika: What is that Trap that you have?

Kal: Just you wait and see.

Onika: Alright, Yoxera attack him directly!

Kal: But wait, why are you doing this for my benefit?

Onika: I am still on your side, Kal.

Kal: But why?

Talia: Where is he??

Alan: Don’t worry, Kal must have gotten hung up with something important.

...Well, look at that! My character has arrived.

...And is possessed by the element of wind? There you go.Wind is 'rooting for him,'. Question is, that bad or good? Does that mean Kal is doing exactly what that element wants? Or is it something less sinister... Perhaps a fragment of Onikar remaining inside the element. We'll see, I guess.

I was somewhat surprised with Talia losing, but there you go! I do prefer it this way, Geoff is pretty cool and I do like Gemini monsters.

Bit sad that Kal had a bad opening... Hoping for them to go all-out. Aahh well, I'm sure the duel will get more intense later.

...And now I do wonder who is Water, and if two of the other elements will indeed be the winners of that contest. It's a possibility.

Anyway yeah, awesome chapter. Looking pretty good.

Oh, and don't worry YRPOtaku169. I know the feeling when you just can't continue a story. Sure Kale does as well :).

Awesome, though Talia seems to dependent (she loses a card game and completely, utterly, breaks down because Kal isn't their to counsel her). It would work if Talia was a little kid (little kids form huge attachments with people and could have viewed Kal as her daddy) but at that age you can't help but agree with Trey for being irritated. Heaven forbids what would happen if Kal *gasp* Lost a card game!

I predict that their will be some character development with Talia were she learns not to be so dependent on others.

I'm surprised Lightsworn lost to Gemini, but I like Geminis.

Also, the elements possess people? That's an interesting idea. I'm really can't wait to se the next chapter. I hope everything goes well for Kale, he got off to a bad start.

This fan-fic has inspired me to make my own YuGiOh FF. This has become my favorite fan-fic on this site. :D

it's neat that you have taken such a unique idea from the fic. ;) we'll see what happens.. You still don't know her back story yet, so you don't know how truly dependant she actually is. :)

I was too, but I made the duel that way on purpose. Surprising, huh? :D

I hope Kal gets good too. You know what that means, right? Ima makin' new cards for him. ;)

I inspired quite a few people to make fan fics; I even think I helped inspire Wyhe. Or am I remembering that wrong? :)

It's awesome that you feel that way about the fic! :D

thank you all for reading! :)

I have an idea.

You remember my Shifter concept right? (Made it for a character), What if the Shifters also had Ally varients. For them the Suppression counters won't just build up on a card but for the entire stack (thus a Shifters shift effect will take all the stacks counters and such). THat will also make Kal a wild card in the elemental war since his elemental affinity switches.

Dual Monsters rock!

Man, this episode was awesome, I mean. . . seriously!

Onika Bakar seemed to be a main character this chapter, and Kal starts out with a crappy hand.

It can't get any better than that.

Sadly, Kane wasn't in this chapter. I guess he was. . . Eh, I don't know. Oh well.

I at least hope I get to see him someday.

I already had it planned that Onika would be here... Sorry.. :| I'm trying to find ways of adding in all the characters I've been asked to along with the contest characters. :)

Thank you all for reading! :)

Soul Legacy, thank you for taking an interest in the fic! would you like a subscription?

and for your request, i would like you to expand on two areas before i could add him:

The Character: it was well thought out, but it would be neat if you could just add a bit more depth. i think i could utilize a character with that sort of emotional quality, but i just need him with more... depth.

The Deck: i rather liked the card, but there is only one card that is custom. i would actually prefer to have a mostly-custom deck, or a mostly custom theme. It looks like you have a mostly-real theme with a custom card worked into it. :| sorry, i would prefer to have the fan fic stay more user-made based... with the exception of the Lightsworns and the Gemini monsters, since they have never been used in the actual tv show.

oh, and try to keep the deck up to advanced format lists? :D

thank you for submitting! just try to work in those areas and i'll see about adding the character. ;)

Well I will be wowed by the Gemini Warrior Deck powered by Equips...including the infamous Broken Bamboo Sword. And also the Lightsworns...and this particular victory for the Geminis proved that not only LIGHT and/or DARK Decks are make it

Anyways, I am more concerned regarding Kal's duel with this Onika fella...he seems to be possessed by some elemental forces if I may put it as such...maybe he is the source of all this problems and source of Joel's powers

And pity Kal's apparent bad hand...and hope that face-down can do something...
