Why is this lame' date=' poorly written story stickied?

[/quote']

if you hated it that much, why even bother with commenting? repugnant users like you are what get emotions flaring around the site, and i can certainly say that you are flaring mine.

if you must know, the reason for the sticky is because its material, length, and quality, whether or not they are lesser in your mind, are better than the vast majority of other threads here in the fan fic section of the website. As such, it passed the "exam" needed to qualify to stickiship.

if you cannot refrain from leaving these odious comments on my thread, then i kindly ask you to stay the hell off. thank you.

Quick question' date=' Kale. The town Aequitas is latin for freedom, is their any reason for that? Just wondering.

Oh, and I enjoyed the new chapter, dispite the numerious, yet minor, grammer and spelling errors.

[/quote']

It IS? I should have probably thought of that...

I'm looking for the meanings of the names now!

Succurro= Aid, to help (I think...), can't quite think of why, a few minor reasons why, but nothing that jumps out.

Talia= "Heaven, Dew of God". Probably going to use a Light deck... Is what I'd think if she hadn't already dueled. Vacant monsters... What could it have to do with her?

Geoff= God's peace, Peaceful gift. O'Hara comes from an Irish clan, and has quite a few meanings...

Alan= Rock, dunno what that has to do with him...

Aaand, that's about all I could find. Doesn't really reveal much, I probably got the wrong meanings...

And cool, next chapter will be soon!
Chapter 6 – Verge

June 15, 2009 - Neo-Domino City

“I don’t give a rat’s ass if you believe me or not, Godwin, but it needed to be said.”

Director Rex Godwin stared down his nose at the man across his desk. His long, gray hair was unkempt due to the irritating circumstance before him. He took his hands and folded them together, bringing them up under his chin. His grey suit crinkled; it was freshly pressed.

“But that is not possible, Joel.”

The man opposite Godwin also wore a grey suit, though this one was more formal than the Director’s. He paused a moment before he spoke, thinking about what he would say. He was a tad uncomfortable, and he shifted in his chair. He brought one leg up from the floor and crossed it over his opposite knee.

“That was the first time you called me by my real name in years, Rex.”

Godwin shifted in his chair, starting to get uncomfortable as well. The both of them stared at each other for some time, stewing in the thoughts and ideas that were just brought forward. Joel was starting to get impatient.

“Surely you can connect the dots, Rex.”

Godwin looked away from Joel Karne and off into space, pondering if what he had just been told could possibly be true. He didn’t want to think that it could be, but Joel did have a valid point. After a moment of thought-process Godwin looked back at Joel.

“What you are saying doesn’t make any sense. The fight between the Signers and the Dark Signers is the only fight out there to control the Darkness.”

“But see? That fits with what I have been telling you from the start!” Joel exclaimed. He shifted again in his chair, moving his crossed leg down to the floor and sitting forward in his chair; it was a mental form of leverage for his upcoming arguments.

“The Darkness. Throughout history there have been fights between the six elements, why do you think that Pegasus made them into the Attributes of the very game we are talking about now?”

“You cannot seriously believe that your one piece of evidence is the fact that a card maker created a series of Attributes…” Godwin countered, grasping at any flaw in Joel’s elaborate framework. He clutched his fists tighter under his chin; he was starting to get unnerved.

“But I do. Pegasus was able to see more about the upcoming events than even he could handle. But what he did see when he explored through those Egyptian ruins so long ago manifested into a series of dreams in which he created the foundation for this card game. As a result, the six fighting elements were transformed into head-to-head representations of themselves for this card game. Why do you think that the Attributes work so well together? The Lightsworn and the DARK Monsters all support each other very well against any enemy because that is how it has been since the dawn of time.”

Joel sat back into his chair and reached into his jacket’s inside pocket. Godwin dropped his arms to his desk and sat back, curious of what was coming and afraid that it might be something that might harm him.

Joel smirked when he saw this; he knew that he had Godwin thinking to his side. Joel pulled out a small, spherical object out of his pocket and laid it down on the table. It was golden and it had an ancient symbol of an eye on it; the entire piece almost resembled that of an eye itself.

“Pegasus used this to be able to see more than anyone else in history was able to see. This object was created for him, not anyone else in history. Not even the original owner! And with this, when he used its power, he was able to see all the events of the waging wars between all of this, all of the six elements.”

Godwin stared at the object intently, seeming to wonder how it got there more than what it was.

“You know what that is, don’t you?”

Godwin looked up at Joel once more, irritated this time, “If correct, this is a Millennium Item, created by the ancient, nameless pharaoh for his court. This one would be the Millennium Eye, which allowed the user to see into other people’s minds.”

“You have done your homework, Rex,” Joel smirked at him again. He relaxed again in his chair, moving his right leg up to his opposite knee. He ran a hand through his short, blonde hair out of habit. He continued, “This item allowed Pegasus to do more than that. This item allows the holder to see things, into anyone’s mind, but also into the spirit realm. When he could see into that place the many spirits there basically downloaded information into his mind, giving him more knowledge on the universe than any one person could handle. And as I have already said, this information manifested as dreams.”

“I still do not believe that you could be correct. This entire idea is false; it would not make sense that the Signers are only a small part of a bigger equation.”

Joel’s face lighted up. He knew what was going on now.

“You are stuck with the idea that the Signers are everything, aren’t you? You think that just because you can lead these four others that this is all that is important. But I am here to tell you that is false. The fact is that there is a lot more happening around you that you wish to ignore. For instance, a student of Duel Academy named Jaden Yuki single-handedly defeated the powers of the light, and stopped the powers of the darkness from resurrecting.”

“I have heard of this pupil, but the idea of that is absurd…” Godwin said, getting irritated. He folded his hands together once more and placed them under his chin, elbows on his desk.

“Well, you know the stories of Yugi Muto, right?”

Godwin glared at him. That struck a cord.

“Yugi Muto defeated the powers of the water from coming back when he defeated Dartz, the man who was trying to unleash the powers of the Oricalcos. He also defeated the power of darkness 5000 years ago against the dark master Zorc.”

“If what you are saying is true, then where are the other three? Fire, Wind, and Earth?” Godwin was starting to get vehement.

“The powers of the Light and the Dark are the strongest,” Joel began, “And thus they can never be put away. The powers of the Water, Fire, and Wind were sealed away by a powerful magic thousands of years ago.”

“That does not answer my question about the Earth.”

Joel looked at Godwin incredulously, “You can’t seriously think that we have nothing to do with this? We are the Earth.”

Godwin’s eyes opened wide for a moment. He didn’t think that this was in any way possible.

“You know what I am saying is true, Godwin.”

Godwin stared down at his desk and in a mild tone of voice he said, “I would like you to leave.”

Joel got angry. He was not about to be thrown out like he had every time he had been with him prior.

“Godwin! You cannot keep me away any longer!” Joel started to raise his voice, “I am not the kid that I once was! This situation is bigger than you think!”

Godwin immediately stood up from his chair; the force from his standing sent the chair flying into the wall behind him and knocked his desk forward a bit.

“Get out” was all he could say. He was more angry than Joel had ever seen him before.

Suddenly the door to his office opened.

“Director?” A short man with an odd, red suit came in, “Is everything alright?”

“Yes, Lazar, this man was just leaving.”

Joel looked between the two and sighed. He placed his foot back on the floor and stood up. On his way he picked the eye up off of Godwin’s desk.

“You remember what I have told you. This game is bigger than you might think and from what I can tell it will all come crashing down around us.”

Joel stared at him for a moment, then realized that there was a faint purple aura around Godwin. There might have even been a few glowing bands of purple light under his shirt…

“I see that last time you were here you gave me an empty threat. You don’t have the power to take over Neo-Domino; you cannot even take over Aequitas. Your ultimatum has elapsed and yet here I am, still the commanding officer.”

Joel was irritated by this once again. His plans were starting to fall.

“One last thing before you go,” Godwin requested, “Pegasus has been missing for some time now, and it seems you have something very personal of his…”

Joel shoved the eye into his inside pocket, pushing the odd thought of glowing purple lines out of his head.

“Goodbye, Rex.”

Joel raised his arm and disappeared in a quick flash of light. There were no seals or lingering amounts of time before he left, it was all instantaneous.

Lazar flipped out, “What was that??”

“I have no idea,” Godwin replied, but in all actuality he had an idea. He raised his sleeve to stare at the new, purple lines.

June 15, 2009 – Downtown Aequitas - Zymatex Tower

“Take it,” Kal said, “It’s yours.”

Trey could not believe his eyes. What he had just seen was the creation of a card from a stone, all in a brilliant flash of light. That could not have been real, but there was the proof right in front of him.

Trey reached up and grabbed the card reverently. As soon as he touched it the light stopped glowing. That was when he realized that there wasn’t only one card, there were two.

“These two cards work in perfect combination with your existing deck. All you have to do is add them and everything will work out perfectly,” Kal explained. Talia, Alan and Geoff started back up taking the valuables out of the secret room.

“What am I going to do with a suit of armor and a bird?” Trey asked, still irritated with the fact that he had to go through all of this and he still could not go after what he wanted.

“I believe that is a phoenix,” Kal said, being friendly, “but we have to go. They are definitely returning, and I can tell that they know it was me who sent the false return message.”

Trey got even more irritated. Now he had to deal with the police.

Kal turned away from Trey, his long, black hair billowed behind him in his wake. He walked quickly to the exit, in which the other three were already escaping. His dark coat flowed behind him in a graceful way.

Trey was standing there in shock. The events that just happened were astounding. He forced himself away from the two cards he now held to catch Kal’s attention.

“Where are you going?” Trey asked incredulously.

Kal stopped where he was and turned around. He stood with a figure that was too good to be true; he was impossibly straight-backed, his muscles seemed to perfect, and his tight shirt and loose-fitting jeans only complimented his body more than it needed to. Trey was momentarily irritated by this fact, but he digressed.

“You don’t know much about me yet, but you will soon come to realize how similar we are,” Kal started. His voice was irresistibly smooth, seeming to have no faults, “But I am leaving. I cannot and will not get caught now, not when I have gotten so far. If you want your answers about how this all works and why you are a part of it, then you have to come with me. Otherwise, you can deal with the DPF on your own.”

Kal turned and walked out. He was gone in an impossible amount of speed, but Trey didn’t seem to notice. He did want those answers, but he didn’t think it was that obvious. How had Kal known that he was so curious?

Trey slipped the two cards he held into his deck in his opposite hand and walked out into the hallway. He quickly caught up to the other four.

“Good you came with us, Trey,” Kal said. He didn’t even turn around to know that Trey was behind him. Trey could feel that something was strange about this guy, but what it was he didn’t know.

“What is this all about? Why am I here?” Trey asked.

“You’re getting ahead of yourself, mate,” Geoff said in a friendly way, “Just follow us.”

Trey didn’t like being told what to do, but he went anyway. He didn’t need the DPF on his tail any more than Kal or the others did.

Talia, Geoff and Alan were the only people carrying things toward the elevator. This made Trey wonder why they were like that, after all Kal should be taking care of things just like them. What unnerved him more was that Alan seemed to be carrying more than was humanly possible. Did this have something to do with the magical powers he claimed to have?

They all made it to the elevator and quickly entered. It seemed bigger than last time, but that couldn’t be. Surely last time was just big enough for the two of them, Kal and Trey? But this time it was a lot bigger. Trey wondered if he was just not very observant.

“Trey, I am glad you came with us. You are needed the most,” Kal said.

Trey gave Kal an odd look. The other three looked at him the same way, as if Kal had revealed something about a large secret, or a spoiler about their favorite television show. Everyone was interested in what was going on.

“Why am I needed?” Trey asked, treading carefully.

Kal turned his head a little to get a better look at Trey, “You are the strongest of us all.”

The elevator doors closed.

----

Once they descended to the ground floor Kal rushed out to the Garage in front of them to his bike. He seemed in a hurry.

“Talia, you are going to take Alan on my bike,” Kal said as he activated his D-Wheel, “And Trey, you are going to take Geoff.”

Trey seemed to be going along with all of this just fine until that last request was voiced.

“I ride alone.” Trey said, his voice monotone, depressing and irritated.

Kal walked over to bridge the space between them, stopping about three feet away from him. He stared into Trey’s green eyes and spoke.

“You will take Geoff on your bike. You will follow Talia to safety. Understand?”

Trey’s face contorted in pain as if he had a headache. His eyes darted back and forth for a moment, then he turned away from Kal slightly. He stared at the pavement for a good second, then sprung back up and looked at Kal.

“Fine” was all he uttered before rushing over to his bike. Geoff turned and gave Kal a salute, then he rushed to jump on the back of Trey’s bike.

‘Why did you lather it on so thick?’ Talia thought-probed over to Kal using her powers of projection.

‘If I didn’t, he wouldn’t have allowed that to happen.’ Kal returned.

Talia got onto Kal’s D-Wheel and allowed Alan to get on the back. She revved the engine; she was ready to go. Trey did something similar, waiting impatiently for Talia to go.

“Alright, I can definitely hear the sirens coming now. Be careful, you will most likely be seen,” Kal told the other four.

“How will you get out?” Trey asked out of curiosity.

“Don’t worry about me, I will be fine,” Kal said, winking at Talia, “Now go!”

Talia sped off on Kal’s D-Wheel and Trey took off after her in his carbon copy. Now all Kal had to do was clean up the place and get out of there himself.

Kal turned toward the elevator and raised his hand toward it, palm-side out. He focused his energy to it, changing it, making it so that it didn’t exist anymore. On the inside, the shaft was twisted back to its original shape, the way it was when Kal had first arrived there. He placed all the beams back where they were supposed to be; he didn’t leave one bolt forgotten.

After he finished that he felt a little bit of fatigue but he had to continue. He turned his energy toward where his ‘apartment’ was that he had created. He twisted it back into the place he had found it, a janitor’s closet that was long forgotten. He transformed all the furniture back into the correct tools and equipment they had been before, and he placed the door back where it was supposed to be. He used his abilities of projection to re-alter all the things he had altered before to cover his tracks.

After all of this he still had to escape. He could feel his internal battery getting lower, but he still had about enough energy to make it back to the group. He needed to get out of there, though, and cover up the last thing. The Garage.

He ran, and he ran fast. His Cyborg legs took him faster than any human could ever go, rivaling that of the D-Wheels that the others drove to get to safety.

Kal ran up the incline that lead him up to the surface, running up the opening into the world of speedway traffic. It was the dead of night and no one was on the road in front of him so he ran forward, twisted in midair and skidded to a halt facing the open decline into the darkness. Kal raised his arm again in that same gesture to make twist the bounds of space once more, making that space resemble what it had before.

Kal was spent, but he still needed to catch up to Talia and the others. He didn’t want to make the others wait on him…

That was when he heard the sirens.

Kal looked down the road to see the DPF officers coming his way; four enforcers of the law on D-Wheels were headed straight at him.

Kal smirked. He raised his arm for one last time, but this time he wasn’t going to destroy. He was going to create. With one thought Kal sent a cascade of energy into the earth around him, bending the foundation into a field of land mines. The pavement was pulled upward like stalagmites denser than the officers could navigate through. They realized this and stopped just before the stalagmites started.

“Don’t follow us.” Kal said that firmly. He was being serious, he didn’t want police interference.

“Kal? Is that you?” came a call from one of the four officers.

“Don’t come after us.” Kal turned and left quicker than any normal human could.

That officer took off his helmet and stared after the runaway, allowing his auburn hair to flow in the night air. A tear ran down his scar-covered cheek.

“Why do you run away?” Deputy Lance Brodorn said, beaten.

----

Kal was running after Talia and the others in the moonlight, his long coat flying behind him from the speed. He activated an internal signal transponder in his mind to transfer his voice to Talia’s helmet, similar to that of a cell phone. It was the same thing that he did to talk to Trey when they first met up only a few hours before.

“Talia?”

After a second of silence, she responded, “Kal? Where are you?” She sounded worried.

“I was tying up loose ends, and prevented the DPF from following us.”

“That’s wonderful!” she said back, relieved.

“Listen, I need you to go to the safe place. Can you do that?”

“The safe place?” Talia was confused.

“The Palmarium.”

A second of silence ensued.

“Are you sure, Kal? You know it is where they frequently look for you…”

“Ever since you took over the lease? I don’t think so… Take them there, I will be there shortly.”

“Alright then. I love you, Kal.”

Kal paused for a moment, then responded, “I love you too, Talia.” He ended the call with that.

Kal slowed down to a more desirable pace for his energy consumption after he turned down a curve on the highway. He was well out of sight of the DPF, and he needed to get to Succurro in one piece, so he decided to slow himself to make the energy last longer. He never pushed his Cyborg internal battery system to the brink of death, and he didn’t want to, but somehow he wanted to know what would happen to his consciousness if the battery did die…

As he was pondering this exact concept something caught his attention. Light started to glow in an alley to his right, not too far away from the highway. Kal wondered what that was. He stopped short and turned to try and see what it was. He couldn’t see from this angle, but he knew that the light was growing stronger. He hopped down over the rail onto the road below him and ran off toward the glowing light.

He searched the alleys, trying to find the exact place from where the light was emanating. It was getting stronger the farther he went.

He found the spot. In an alley amongst the garbage bins and filth there was an orb of glowing light suspended in midair. He could hear screams from within it; it sounded like a man was inside the light, and he was in pain.

Suddenly an arm came out from within the light. It struggled to be free from the internal workings of the light. A shoulder followed, and a head along with it. Kal could see the head of a man with short, blonde hair coming out of a glowing orb.

Kal was in shock.

The man continued to scream in pain, but soon he worked out half of his body. Within seconds he was out of the orb. He fell to the ground and the orb disappeared. He was wearing a grey suit, though it looked rather roughed up. He was bloody too, like he had been in a nasty fight.

“This is what I get? For taking this power, I get this as punishment?” the man started to chuckle a nervous laugh, “Why?”

Kal suddenly knew that he recognized the man. It was someone from his past, someone that he believed to be the cause of why he was the way he was today. This man before him, the biggest crime boss in all of Aequitas’ history, was Joel Karne.

The man looked around, trying to gather his bearings, “Where am I now?” he looked over and saw Kal standing there, “Kal?”

The uttering of his name was like the trigger that fired the gun. Kal leapt forward in a heat of passion and anger, trying to rip the heart out of the man before him.

“Why??” Kal screamed. Kal was on top of Joel now, and he punched him across the face.

“You ruined my life!!” He punched him in the face a few more times.

“Stop…” Joel pleaded in between the beatings.

“You destroyed my spirit!!” Kal, starting to cry, continued the onslaught.

“ENOUGH!” Joel screamed. This startled Kal, and he hesitated.

“I’m sorry that I defeated you, but you were not yet strong enough,” Joel said, “Believe me… This must be before you found out…”

“Before I found out?” Kal asked, “Found out what?”

“What is today’s date?” Joel asked.

“What? Why?” Kal was stupefied for a moment.

“What day is today??” Joel asked.

“June fifteenth.”

“That must be it, you and I have not yet became friends…” Joel said, more to himself than to Kal.

“Friends? How could I ever be friends with you?” Kal snapped.

“You did become my friend, Kal, because you realized that I didn’t ruin your life with that defeat. I made you stronger! I made you more resilient, I made you a better duelist! Please, don’t make me go through this again…”

“Again? What are you, mental?”

“Perhaps I am… But this I know for sure. You and I are friends, and we are on the same team.”

“What team?” Kal asked.

“Your team, of course.”

Kal hesitated for a moment. “How do you know about the team?”

“I am in it… don’t you remember me saying that?”

“Impossible, I just saw you for the first time in almost a year.”

“Oh, right. I suppose that is true…”

“You’re damn right its true. How else could it be so?”

“Well, I know for a fact that I saw you last week.”

Kal stared at him menacingly, “You’ve been spying on me?”

Joel started damage control, “No! I saw you in a different time…”

“Time? Like time travel…?”

“Yes! That is what I have been alluding to all this time…”

Kal stared into the eyes of his enemy and saw regret. He saw pain and fear. He also saw truth. He could feel that Joel was telling the truth now.

Kal stood up off of him.

Suddenly Joel flickered. Kal was startled; he had never seen anything like that before. Joel was there in the flesh and then his entire body blinked out of existence for a moment. It was like he disappeared but only for a second. He reappeared in a quick flash of light. He looked like he was in pain.

“What was that?” Kal asked, generally worried about Joel’s health.

“This is my punishment for taking the power…” Joel said.

“What power?”

Joel raised his arm and pulled down his singed sleeve to show Kal the skin of his forearm. On it was a scar the likes of which Kal had never seen before; it looked like a bird taking flight; it seemed like something had melted the image into his skin. It glowed a slight green color.

“This is what I took from the powers…” Joel said, “At the time I thought I needed it, but I was wrong…”

“What powers? What are you talking about?”

Joel looked up to Kal with dead eyes, wishing that he had more time than he had.

“You honestly have no idea what is going on, do you?”

Kal looked down at his once enemy anxiously. Something told him that he knew exactly what Joel was talking about.

“The elements are unleashed… I thought you knew that?”

Joel flickered again. He reappeared, writhing in pain. He twisted and turned at Kal’s feet, trying to make the pain go away. It climaxed with a burst of green light that came from within him, seeming to escape from newly-formed cracks all across his body. The light faded and with it some of the agony.

Kal didn’t know what to do.

“Why is this happening to you?” he tried, grasping at straws.

“This is my punishment…”

“For what?”

“For taking the power of the Elements. I took the ability to teleport, and I abused that ability. Now I am paying the price…”

“What price?” Kal said, furious that he wouldn’t just get to the point.

“To teleport you have to compress yourself into the thinnest possible form. That way you can travel between the membranes to which dimension you would like… I compressed myself one too many times, and this is causing my body to fall apart. Soon I will cease to exist…”

Kal was dumbfounded. He had heard of teleportation, but he didn’t know it could have this much of a toll on a human body. He watched as Joel writhed in pain beneath him. He still had loads of questions, but he didn’t know how many he could ask. Were they really friends? Was this some cheap plot to get at him? Was he really the heartless crime boss that he had believed him to be?

Another burst of light came from within his body, escaping through more cracks that had just formed. Soon there would not be anything left of Joel Karne.

“Kal…” he said, “I need to warn you… Last time you were unprepared…”

“Last time?” Kal wondered, “What are you talking about?”

“The elements are coming for you, Kal…”

“What?” Kal said. He needed more information.

“Be watching for anything out of the ordinary, anything at all…”

“Who is coming first?” Kal asked. He was tired of acting like he didn’t know anything about the subject.

“Water” was the last thing that Joel said before a final blast of light came from within him. He squirmed, trying to save himself. He let out a blood-curdling scream as the light reached a brilliant climax. Light poured from inside of him, and in an instant he was gone. His entire body exploded into dust and light particles leaving only a faint trace of him behind.

Kal was rocked by a series of emotions. He didn’t know what to do. Confused and angry, he let out a cry of pain into the night sky.

June 15, 2009 – Succurro – The Palmarium

Talia, Geoff, Alan and Trey drove up on their two D-Wheels to the parking garage across the street from the Palmarium. They parked on the top floor next to the skyway that would take them to the food court, just a few stories below the penthouse apartment, the apartment that Kal Iszarc won in the tournament that Pegasus had held there only a few months prior.

Talia took off her helmet and stepped off the D-Wheel.

“Kal is on his way, we must get to the apartment as fast as possible,” she said. She was taking charge of the situation in the leader’s absence.

As soon as Trey stopped Geoff hopped off of the back of his D-Wheel. He didn’t want to stay on any longer than he had too; he didn’t want to spark a confrontation with a man who could spontaneously create fire.

“Where is it that we are going?” Alan asked after he got off the D-Wheel that Talia was riding.

“So I am not the only one that has no idea where this is?” Trey said as he got off of his D-Wheel and took off his helmet.

“Kal and I are the only people who have ever been here, which means that he is desperate for us to get into secret. He usually doesn’t want anyone to intrude into his abode…” Talia said.

“Oh, this is Iszarc Estates?” Geoff said, jokingly.

“No, this is the parking garage across the street.”

Alan and Geoff exchanged looks.

“Bugger needs a parking garage? Fancy…” Geoff started. Talia didn’t allow him to finish.

“We need to get up to the apartment as fast as possible. Follow me.”

Talia lead the way down the skyway closely followed by Alan and Geoff. Trey was not doing his best to stay close to the pack, but he didn't fall too far behind.

While they walked Trey looked out the glass windows and into the cool, summer night. The moon was nearly full and illuminated everything to see. Trey looked from building to building, admiring the many skyscrapers. He was just thinking that it was much more impressive than Aequitas, but that thought changed his mood dramatically.

Just a few hours before he was first driving up to Aequitas for the first time in his life. He was in search of something, something he believed that might be there. There was no way that he could find what he was searching for in whatever town they were in now. This irritated him more than he already was, and only made him less apt for idle chatter.

Talia walked across the skyway with great speed up to a glass door with a pull handle. There was a card-key slot to the right of the door; it was locked. Talia fished in the pocket of her skirt and pulled out a slim piece of plastic. She slid the card-key in the slot and pulled the door open. They made their way across the closed food court toward the set of four elevators. Talia pressed the button and the doors opened instantly. The four of them walked in and headed up to the top floor.

Once the doors opened they were greeted with the entryway with the modern furniture and abstract paintings. All of this was new to Alan, Geoff and especially Trey. Talia walked through the wide hallway by the closets and bathroom and into the great room. She went to her immediate right and got herself a glass of water in the kitchen.

“Make yourselves at home, boys,” she said. All three of them did as they were told; the woman was the commanding officer here. Trey was reluctant at first, but he decided to wait for Kal. He wanted answers more than his freedom at that moment.

Talia finished her glass of water and placed it in the sink.

“I think I'll leave you boys to get to know each other a little more, I'll be back,” she said, and she walked to the back rooms.

Geoff stared off at her for a moment, then turned to the other two, “If she wasn't completely infatuated with Kal I would totally put some moves on her.”

“You wouldn't have a shot,” Alan said, not seeming disappointed at all.

“Well, I hate to leave you two together after that ordeal you guys had, but I really have to use the bathroom,” Geoff said, and he walked back over to the entryway.

That left Trey sitting in a chair with Alan sitting on an adjacent couch. For a moment the two of them said nothing, but the silence started making them both feel awkward. Alan spoke first.

“You have quite the deck there.”

Trey looked over at him, “Thank you.”

“So, what is your story?”

“What do you mean?” Trey responded.

“Where did you come from? What ordeals have you had to go through? I believe us all to be connected in a similar way, what with my parent's disappearance, Kal's parent's murders, Talia's situation, and Geoff's circumstances. I believe you to have something similar.”

Trey gave Alan a look and then looked away. Alan was right, but he couldn't reveal anything. He didn't think that he would ever feel like opening up, not to these people.

“Are you interested in how I got these lines?” Alan asked Trey, motioning to his tattoos on his arms.

Trey was interested but he didn't say anything. He knew that Alan would start talking anyway.

“When my magic began I was destructive. My love upset me and I ran through the trading center of my town, Yanta, bringing with me a wave of torment and destruction. A friend of mine knocked me out so that the problem would stop. When I came to I was in a jail cell. The police said it was for my own good.

“I could have broken out of there if I desperately wanted to, with my power. But I felt they were right. I deserved to be put away for a while. I stayed in that cell for the longest time just thinking to myself, not being able to do much of anything.

“I read a lot of books from the library there at the jail; Ayn Rand, Gandhi, Nietzsche, all those radical thinkers. The police center had an amazing selection.

“I was also able to watch people duel. I had never practiced the art, nor did I have any cards. I saw the other inmates through my secluded bars duke it out over and over to pass the time. I watched these thirty-year-old guys just throw down new combos ever day; they had new shipments of cards from their loved ones every night in their daily mail.

“I was jealous, I wanted to play. Of course, I had no deck, and I had no idea how to play even if I did. I decided to watch and imagine playing and eventually I picked up on the simple rules.

“One day a new inmate offered to duel me through the cage bars. He was a nice man, and he dueled with an odd assortment of cards. They revolved around a Field Spell that did damage to each player for each card they controlled during the Standby Phases. He offered me these cards that I have now, the Dark Emanaters. He didn't want them; he said that he felt that they were for me. He defeated me time and time again, but after I got used to the deck I began to get better. I eventually won.

“I didn't see that man again after I got out. I took my new deck with me, and instead of stealing to get by I decided to challenge my old friends to a duel for the necessities. They would accept, not thinking that young Alan Szarp would have anything that could beat them.

“They were wrong. After dueling with the man with the Gravatics I was able to wipe the floor with them. I got everything I needed, and I even started to get more respect.

“I began to be paid a little bit of money for my dueling talent. Some of the members of my town decided to make bets on whether or not they could beat me, and I joined the wager. I began to make more money than I had ever had in my life. I was starting to be happy again, except for one thing.

“I never saw her again. My Brooke was gone, apparently she ran away after my first incident with magic. That broke my heart...

“One day I was walking into the upper streets of Yanta to the popular coffee shop. I hadn't had a coffee in forever, and I felt that I could splurge some on that.

“I walked through the door and got stares from everyone. They seemed confused, but I didn't know why at the time. They all seemed a little afraid.

“‘We don’t accept your kind here, kid.’ one guy behind the counter said.

“‘What kind would that be?’ I responded, the powers of the literature I had been reading kicking in.

“‘You know what I am talking about. Now please leave. You are scaring customers.’

“‘How am I different than any of these people?’ I countered, ‘I have money; I am a paying customer.’

“But you are of the lower class...’ the man behind the counter said. He was obviously a bias man who questioned his own morals.

“I turned to the people in the shop, ‘Good people, are you afraid of me?’ They very well might have been. I was tall for my age, and my voice was deep and commanding. No one moved, I only received stares.

“‘What have I done wrong? All I want is a coffee...’

“‘Please, man, leave...’ the clerk tried again.

“‘I will not.’ I stood there, defiant.

“‘The man said leave. Now that you will not I have no choice but to take you out by force,’ I heard from somewhere behind me.

“I heard a gunshot. I tensed up, I was afraid. Somewhere within me sparked my magical abilities again. Once I tensed up my magic exploded out of my skin in an aura of light. It acted like a shield, knocking the bullet away from me before it had a chance to inflict harm. Light poured from my eyes and mouth, energy wouldn’t stop flowing from me. I rose into the air, feeling the energy sent into the surrounding area. People ran in fear, but the officer and the clerk were shocked into staying put. The shield expanded, growing in power and energy. Soon it was not a shield at all; it was a super-charged energy shockwave waiting for something to release it.

“The officer tried to apprehend me, but this only ticked me off. My body turned in midair to face him. I felt my mouth twist into a smirk and just like that I set off the shockwave.

“It was like a trigger, and I pulled it. The shield expanded outward through the store, obliterating everything in its wake. The clerk and the officer were turned to dust, just like everything else in the store. But the wave didn’t stop there; the blast continued out, taking everything with it. All of the surrounding area was turned to dust, and I was the only thing left.

“I descended, landing on my feet. The light disappeared from my eyes and mouth, my power was gone. It was almost like I woke up from a trance: I didn’t feel like it was me who had just done that. I couldn’t believe it. I fell down to the ground in pain, the emotional pain that I felt from the idea of taking the lives of so many people. I sat there in the crater of dust a mile wide. That is when I realized that I had these marks, they were etched into my skin as a marker of this thing that I did. It is a constant reminder of the pain that I inflicted on those poor people.”

Trey couldn’t help but realize that he was captivated by the end of Alan’s monologue. Somewhere halfway through the speech he looked up and took in all of what he had to say. By the end he couldn’t help but have a few questions.

“So you ran away?”

“Yes. I had no parents, no love, and no longer could I show myself in Yanta. Everyone would know it was I who destroyed the town and took hundreds of lives with it. I fled, eventually finding Kal to hang around with.”

“So you found him?” Trey asked. He seemed more interested in Kal’s story now that he knew so much about Alan.

“No, he found me. Much like he found you he took me in and recruited me. I’m surprised that he decided to wait to explain so much to you, he didn’t hesitate with me.”

This only aggravated Trey again. He was not being told about why he was needed yet, but Alan was told the instant that they met?

Just then the two of them heard the flushing of a toilet. The door near the entrance opened and Geoff walked out. He came over and sat next to Alan on the couch.

“Have you two been playing nice?” he asked.

“Yes, actually,” Alan responded for them. Trey didn’t mind; he still didn’t like the chipper attitude that Geoff seemed to have at all times of the day.

“Well, what have you two guys been talking about?”

“I told Mr. Kortun about my life, and the reason why I am here.”

“Ah, so now he knows all about you,” Geoff responded.

Trey got irritated, “You all realize that I’m right here, right?”

The both of them looked at Trey then exchanged looks. They burst out laughing.

“What?” Trey asked.

The two of them laughed harder. Something really was funny to them, but Trey didn’t have the faintest idea what. He was getting aggravated to no end.

Geoff calmed down, “Wow, Kal can sure pick us, huh?”

“Yes, I mean, we have all different attitudes here.”

“Yeah, with my rather chipper attitude, your depression, Talia’s happiness, Kal’s anxiety and Trey’s anger we are sure the motley crew of magic-bearing idols,” Alan replied. The two of them continued chuckling to themselves for a while. Trey just sat there, irritated.

“What are you guys laughing about?” Talia asked as she came back into the room. She was dressed in something different, and it looked like she took the time to redo her hair and makeup. She now had on a tight-fitting, black, v-neck tank top with a short-length, deep green jacket with short sleeves over it. She wore a pair of shorts that were the epitome of the name; they hardly covered anything. This all was finished off with a belt that was hung loosely over her hips and a pair of black flip-flops.

All of the guys couldn’t help but stare at her for a while, but they all snapped back into reality after a moment.

“We were just talking about how different we were,” Geoff started, “that’s all.”

“Okee dokee then…” Talia said as she made her way over to one of the bags that they brought into the apartment, “After seeing the two of you duel, Trey and Alan, I got really fired up. What say we treat you two to a duel between me and Geoff while we wait for Kal to show up?”

Geoff, flustered, seemed completely okay with the idea.

“I would like to see that, surely,” Alan said, “And I do believe that Trey would not mind.”

Alan was right again, but Trey didn’t say anything. This only lead Alan to feel like he had gotten to know Trey, and that irritated Trey some more.

Talia pulled out two duel disks and tossed one to Geoff. He caught it with ease as he stood up and walked to the other side of the room. Talia stuck her disk on her arm as well.

“Ready?” Talia asked.

“Oh yeah,” Geoff responded.

Duel!” they said at the same time. Each of them drew five cards.

Talia: 8000, 5

Geoff: 8000, 5

“With the deck you are using now, I do believe you should allow me to go first,” Geoff said. Talia obliged.

Geoff drew his opening card.

“I activate the Field Spell Card Dual Fortress – Synthesis!” he said. He raised his duel disk a bit to trigger the opening of the slot to place the field spell in. He placed the card in the tray and it slid back into the device, triggering the holographics. Light flooded the room and a castle appeared behind him.

Dual Fortress - Synthesis

Field Spell Card

When a Gemini Monster is Summoned, destroyed, or an Equip Spell Card is activated, place 1 Gemini Counter on this card. You can remove 2 Gemini Counters from this card to treat 1 Gemini Monster you control as an Effect Monster and have it gain its effect. You can send this face-up card with 3 or more Gemini Counters to the Graveyard to add 1 Equip Spell Card in your Deck or Graveyard to your hand.

“What does this do?” Trey asked Alan, seeming intrigued.

“Just watch, my friend,” he replied.

“Now I summon Gemini Soldier in attack mode!” Geoff said. He placed another card in his hand on the field, a level 2 warrior. The card flipped face-up in brilliant holographics and disappeared, leaving behind a tiny warrior in its place. 500/300/LV2

Suddenly a small object appeared behind the monster. It looked like half a yin and yang sign, the light half.

“What is that for?” Trey asked.

Alan gave him a look that said everything. Just sit back and watch.

“Next I activate the Equip Spell Card Broken Bamboo Sword, and equip it to Gemini Soldier!”
The equipped monster gains 0 ATK.

Suddenly the other half of the yin and yang symbol appeared behind the little warrior as a rod that was broken in two pieces appeared next to him. Both pieces of the symbol were close together, but you could tell they were separate.

“Now I complete the symbol and give my monster his power!” Geoff said. The yin and yang symbol smashed together, completing itself. It started to glow and it shoved its energy into the little warrior in front.

“And with 1 face-down card I will end my turn.”

Talia drew her card. She looked at all the options she had.

“I activate the Spell Card Charge of the Light Brigade! This sends the top three cards of my deck to the Graveyard and I get to add 1 Lightsworn monster in my deck to my hand…”

She took the card out of her hand and placed it on the field. She then took three cards from her deck and placed them in the Graveyard slot of her duel disk.

Suddenly a tiny angel appeared out of no where. 600/1300/LV2

“What just happened?” Geoff asked.

“This is the effect of my Edie, Lightsworn Savior. When she is sent to the Graveyard she is Special Summoned, and I send the top two cards of my deck to the Graveyard. After I add my Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior to my hand by the effect of my Charge, I send the top two cards of my deck to the Graveyard.”

600/1300

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. When this card is sent from your Deck to the Graveyard, Special Summon it and send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard. You can send the top 2 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard to negate the activation of a Spell Card, Trap Card, or Effect Monster's effect that would destroy this card, and destroy that card.

She picked up the top two cards of her deck and sent them to the Graveyard as well.

“Next I Summon my Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner in attack mode!”

Suddenly a woman in a white dress appeared next to the woman in white. 1000/1000/LV3

“Now her special ability activates! This allows me to discard 1 card to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Lightsworn monster in my Graveyard. I send my Garoth from my hand to Summon it back in attack mode!

Suddenly another man jumped into the room in a flash of light. The woman in the white dress raised her arms above her head and channeled the light, summoning the beast. He was a man in white armor, wielding a long axe. 1850/1300/LV4

‘Damn it, she’s got me on the edge now,’ Geoff thought. And he was right. All he had so far was a tiny man with a broken weapon to defend himself.

“This looks interesting…” Trey said as he moved forward in his chair. Alan grinned.

“Just wait for the onslaught!” Talia said.

To be continued…

Next time on Yu-Gi-Oh! TC:

Geoff: Geez, you can do a lot of damage, Talia.

Talia: Just you wait! This new deck of mine is so much more powerful than anything else I have ever wielded!

Alan: I wonder when Kal will arrive.. What is he doing?

This chapter was very interesting. I would have liked to see more of the duel, but that bit was really good. I like to see where you go with the Elements thing, that really seemed interesting. I still want to see what cards Trey got.

Anyway, this chapter is really good. Can't wait for the next one.

Odd... Didn't she use the vacant monsters before? Perhaps IO remember incorrectly. If she did though, I wonder what happened.

I'm surprised Joel is able to show his face again after trying to take Aequitas

Anyway, damn Joel, if he did something to Pegasus...

...Nothing I can do alas, but damn him if he did! I shall not forgive him!

Looks like Godwin is the Dark Signer/Signer.

Well then, it seems the story focuses on the six attributes in battle. Somewhat similar to where my story is going actually (if I ever finish it...), but different enough, luckily.

Light of Destruction = Light

Zork=Darkness

Orichalcos=Water (oddly enough, but then again, Atlantis...)

Earth= Dark Signers (or normal Signers, but since the Dark ones use EARTHbound Gods.)

Fire= ???

Wind=???

So then, we got the set-up, now for the theories I suppose.

Fire could very well be Trey, come on, look at his monsters! No world domination/destroying tendencies as of yet, but could be a matter of time, and who knows? Perhaps they don't need to do so.

Heck, thinking back to the GREEN seal, Joel might very well be the Wind, he can teleport, which could be a wind-based ability.

Wait, he dissolved into LIGHT, and it seems he may have gone for the elements as a whole anyway, and his body couldn't stand it. Almost feel sorry for him, but what he might have done to Pegasus...

The elements are coming after Kal? Wonder why, and does that mean that Trey can't be Fire? Well, he could be positive fire, or perhaps some elements will help rather then hinder. Then again, the way he talks...

...From what it seems, the elements basically reincarnate/possess human forms every few generations or so to battle the others for worldly dominance. Why they want Kal, I don't know. Perhaps he is an element himself? Perhaps due to a twist of fate he has both the more powerful elements of light and dark, so the elements wish to beat the stronger opponent first?

...Wait, what if the positive force and the negative force of each element have to do battle? Trey is Fire, Talia is Light, Geoff... Perhaps Earth with the Gemini, Alan uses dark, Kal... also uses mainly dark, a bit of a stumble block. Not to mention they seem to be an element short even if there was an easy one for Kal.

Awesome chapter that is giving the tantalizing bits of info I need to come up with wacky ideas.

Well I am very glad that you actually made a blog about it.Technology rocks nowadays!

And I think that the powerful Synchros that was said to be all-powerful in a talk in ch 5 revolve around the 6 Attributes of Duel Monsters...

And I believe that Singers are related to LIGHT as they represent the Crimson Dragon which gives life

The Dark Signers would represent DARK as they are the so-called "avatars" for the King of the Underworld and death

From Joel's words, EARTH is represented by either the human race, all life forms on the planet or just simply the Earth itself.

yes the Dark Signers have dark in their name, but don't forget they use the EARTHbound Gods, underWORLD (still earth, sort of, arguably... Weakly...). Besides, dark is too overused, and you need to figure out ways to spread them apart. I mean, I don't see the "Darkness" from GX being much except Dark, nor Zork. Have a chance to separate it from darkness, TAKE it.

Underworld is just an umbrella term since ancient people believed that Hell is under the surface of the world.

Now it is proven that only more dirt is udner teh earth, and that the Underworld is more likely to be another dimension altogether.

Please note that Dark Signers actually represent death, as opposed to how Signers represent life

Yup' date=' Life and Death But the Earthbound Gods themselves don't seem too 'death-like'. Yeah with the underworld, That's why I said 'sort of'. then got gradually weaker...

...And I think I'm getting a tad off-topic. I'll stop here.

Very well, then we shall let the author make his statement...

Aelsthla, you are almost pretty much correct on everything you have guessed about my fan fic, until it got to this chapter. you really didnt get very many of your things correct.. ;) thats not bad, that just means that i am not as predictable as i thought i was...

Wyhe! its good to see you! :D sorry for basically deserting your fan fic, i have had some important things to do around in real life and i almost dont have time for my own fan fic.. :(

thank you all for commenting! all subscription requests will be added (i think there was only one) and i will continue to add these to my blog. ;) thank you for the compliment about that, Wyhe. :D

as for youre guesses: Aelsthla, i know you would love to make the characters into elements themselves, but i wont do that. ;) that is too far i think to be realistic. ;)

Wyhe, your points about the Signers and Dark Signers was going to be brought up in the next chapter, where more information about the elements would be divulged. :)

Wow' date=' umm. . . So Geoff uses Gemini's? Why is that?

And, great chapter Kale. Its kinda weird how you made Karne go poof instantly. He didn't have a lot of screen time at all.

well, i thought the new Gemini Support was cooler than the Koa'ki Meiru, so i decided on that. Geoff was supposed to be anti-meta originally, but i changed it. ;) i like this way better.

oh, and dont think that Joel isnt there anymore. His future self died, but his present still exists. ;) stuff to look forward to, for sure.

Well, looks like I need further theory's, each crazier then the last!

But before I get into those, forgot to say how surprised I was at Joel's death! He was shaping up to be a main villain, and just like that *snap*. Course, he might still be alive, messing with time travel makes it very weird...

Hmmm... Perhaps Kal's group symbolizes a single element... No, I got to get off that path, seems quite obvious that all the elements are bearing down on him.

...Perhaps he is the tiebreaker? They plan on taking his power and using it to upset the balance, thus taking the advantage for themselves?

Tricky, but Trey is the strongest... Yet they are coming after Kal...

Bah, why do I feel like I'm missing a piece of the puzzle? I might wait a chapter or two.
