I do 3D Rendered images (see my signature for links), so that would be one version of a render. These renders are done with 3D software (like Poser or Daz|Studio) and can contain backgrounds rendered right with the character image. Then there are PNG Renders (usually cut images from games, movies, anime/manga, etc...). A good site for some of the second type is Celestial Star (http://celestial-star.net/renders/).
