Taking the Draw out of Draw Power.

Recommended Posts

I was thinking, what if for one format they banned all the draw engine cards like Destiny Draw and Trade-In, and limited Pot of Greed.

That way all Decks would have equal Draw Power and possibly speed.

Would this be a good idea? Why or why not? Please provide reasoning.

Well' date=' it wouldn't impact Tele-DAD too much in my view, so I wouldn't call it fair. Sure, Draw Power would be equal, but speed definitely wouldn't be.

I just think that some Decks could be competitive if they had more Draw Power or Speed.

Something like this could give them that Draw Power.

You didn't really establish further. As far as I know' date=' you're asking what would happen if Destiny Draw and Trade-In were at 0 and if Pot of Greed was at 1. As far as I'm concerned, this doesn't affect Tele-DAD that much, or even at all, so the meta wouldn't really be that much different.

Destiny Draw, Trade-In, Solar Recharge, Allure of Darkness, and any other +0 draw card.

I think if all Decks had equal Draw Power, some Decks that aren't competitive might have a chance to be competitive.

Things would change a lot. Teledad would probably be more Zombie-ish then the current D-Hero type build.

Is COSR banned in this theoretical list?

I hadn't thought about it at the time, but sure, I'll ban CoSR.

It's tough to say. LS would do well, Glads might be meta again, Teledad would be more like telezombie. In this deck, DAD would be more useful due o the greater graveyard control offered by Zombies. Maybe Plants would be meta, they have no draw engine currently so they would only be strengthened. Monarchs (particularly the tele variant) might finally be speedy enough to compete.

This idea is terrible.

That is all.

Could you at least explain?

As a rule of thumb' date=' most suggestions people concoct are terrible, so it is not an unreasonable system to assume that any given idea is terrible by default until it can prove itself to be not terrible and earn its Official Certificate of Not Terrible.

If you don't think it's terrible, prove that it deserves its Official Certificate of Not Terrible.

Would the fact that you thought of it count?

Would this same idea somehow be better if it were posted by JoC instead of Star?

No?

That should answer your question.

Equal draw power. Yes. Equal speed. No. Lightsworn and Gladiator Beasts for example. Gladiator Beasts dont need draw engines to be fast since they tag in and out. Lightsworns self mill, adding speed to the Deck. Even though they lose Solar Recharge, they still have their self milling and their search card Charge of the Light Brigade.

I reckon theoretically it would be a good idea. In practice, maybe not. Top Decks like Gladiator Beasts will still be a threat because of Gyzarus and Lightsworns will still be fast even without Recharge. Consistency will probably be the only thing affected in Lightsworn. TeleDAD will quite possibly become slower and less consistent since they need Emergency Teleport in hand very quickly to win. Pot of Greed alone will not be enough to guarantee it in hand like D-Draw and Allure.

Basically, good decks will still be good and bad decks will still be bad. Speed and consistency are the only things that would change which decks would be top.
