Grim the Wanderer
maybe, i missed a few parts of the show, but not having a back up plan is all ways a mistake. also he under estimated his opponents.

werewolfjedi
the note book has range, the geass has more uses. light's ego makes him think he can't fail, while Lelouch never underestimated any obsiticle in his way. light was beginner, Lelouch was a master at the game of world domination. Guest
Lelouch never underestimated any obsiticle in his way. [spoiler=Were we watching the same show? Lelouch underestimated people all the time.]In Stage 2' date=' he underestimates Clovis's army - although, to be fair, he had no way of knowing that the experimental prototype Lancelot would pop up. In Stage 3, he underestimates the limits on his Geass, and thus almost gives his identity away to Kallen. In Stage 7, he underestimates Cornelia. Severely. In Stage 8, he underestimates Euphemia - he doesn't think that his short conversation will let her deduce his identity, but it does. In Stage 11, he underestimates Cornelia's army by not expecting Lancelot. [i']Again.[/i] In Stage 13, he underestimates the opposing army. Again. And gets owned by Lancelot. Again. He also underestimates Villetta, since he doesn't expect her to be able to discover his identity. In Stage 14, he underestimates Mao by not counting on him being able to beat him at chess, even though he has fairly obvious mind reading powers. In Stage 15, he underestimates Britannian Medical Science by ordering an army of policemen and a Knightmare to "shoot Mao" instead of "kill Mao". In Stage 16, he underestimates himself as part of his plan to defeat Mao. Apparently even Lelouch figured out that he has Chronic Underestimating Disorder. In Stage 18, he underestimates Suzaku's resolve, which nearly gets them both killed. In Stage 22, he underestimates his Geass's power, which leads to it activating at just the wrong time. In Stage 25, he underestimates the opposing army, causing his rebellion to crumble in his absence. He also underestimates Orange, expecting him to die simply because an entire building was dropped on him. In Turn 1, he underestimates the Black King's ruthlessness. What an idiot. In Turn 3, he underestimates Rolo's abilities. In Turn 5, he underestimates Suzaku's ruthlessness, and thus is nearly exposed as Zero at the end when he receives a call from Nunnally. In Turn 6, he underestimates Nunnally's resolve - not to mention the battle power of the Knights of Rounds present. In Turn 10, he underestimates Li Xingke, and ends up losing Kallen and a large army. In Turn 12, he underestimates Sayoko's inability to play him properly. He appears to have been doing so for some time now, considering how many dates she has arranged for him. In Turn 13, he underestimates Orange's resolve, which allows him to overcome Lelouch's trap. If Orange didn't immediately switch to Lelouch's side, Lelouch would have lost right then and there. He also underestimates Rolo's murderous (possible yandere) nature, leading to the death of Shirley. In Turn 14, he underestimates his subordinates' suspicion of him, since his actions help to convince them to later turn against him. In Turn 15, he underestimates Emperor Charles, thinking that a simple "Die!" command would settle things. In Turn 18, he underestimates Britannian Weaponary Science, leading to the apparent deaths of Guildford, Nunnally, Sayoko, and much of the city. Of course, they all return to life later, to his surprise; apparently, he also underestimated Britannian Medical Science. Again. Oh, but first he underestimates Rolo's obsessive love for him, not expecting Rolo to try to kill Shirley. In Turn 19, he underestimates Schneizel's ability to manipulate the Black Knights. And then, when he's prepared to die right there, he underestimates Rolo's obsessive love for him again, resulting in his unexpected survival. In Turn 20, he underestimates his father's Ragnarok plan, thinking that he can win simply by sealing them both in the Sword of Akasha by destroying the Thought Elevator. Oh, and Light does not become a Shinigami. Word of God confirms it.
.Digital.Simplicity.
He doesn't even get the shinigami eyes so don't even start talking about "becoming" a shinigami i say it's all fan based.
T.J. the Troll
Now you've all gone mad. There's a director's cut on youtube, he becomes a shinigamy, but you don't see him. Not to mension what Ryuk said in the begining; "Be warned any human who's used the Death Note can neither go to heaven nor hell for eternity." K.B. strategist
They go to nothingness, not become a shinigami.
Phantom Roxas
One of my friends at school who is obsessed with Death Note saw that and said that that Shinigami was in fact not Light, and in the finale, the eyecatcher-esque Death Note entry stated that all humans go to Mu/Nothingness, so it's highly likely that Light went to Nothingness as well.
