About Using Photobucket Images

Recommended Posts

I hope this is okay to post, just want to address an issue. :)

I was browsing for some images on Photobucket for a series of cards I`m working on. While I was browsing, I saw a familar pic that was located at deviantART.

This kind of worries me. After this discovery, I learned that just because you got the image from a certain place, does not mean it was originally created there.

Again, I`m sorry if this is breaking the rules or anything. I never intend to break a rule on purpose. All I want is to address a problem I discovered yesterday, and I think that`s okay. I`m not telling any names.

I understand. You might be asking the INcorrect creator, so this new rule, you might not be able to know if it's an original or not, so YCM MODS read this yo, lol

I already long knew about the fact that almost every search engine based website has probably 70% of their pictures taken from somewhere else. That was entirely expected prior to the dA rule, and I'm sure they took that into account.

It also raises many suspicions, because anyone could purposely take the picture from dA, and just reupload it somewhere else, and link to THAT picture instead.

There is no PURE 100% method to prevent this from happening, so you can only do as much as you can.

If you think you've found something on dA, there is a nice little greasemonkey script for FireFox that you can download free from http://dard.freehostia.com/ (check the screenshots as well, it's not that distracting). You can also sign up for TinEye.com image search engine (http://www.plagiarismtoday.com/2008/08/19/tineye-protecting-images-preventing-orphans/).

I'm not happy with PB anyway as an artist. No profits for those who have made the artwork that's posted there and made into a print. :(
