Sten Darker
If this is in the wrong forum (which it probably is) please tell me which forum I should post it in, and I'll contact a moderator to have it moved. This isn't a complaint thread, just for discussion. Please only post if you have something to add to the discussion. I'll start. I've been on DA for a short while, and I totally agree with the rule! with the people who complained... I do not. Artists who work hard on origional works, have full copywrite and should be asked permission before using their work as well as always given credit. However, more often then not, these are really hard worked pictures of already copywrited charactors. And they only have enough copywrites to deserve recognision. But they don't need to be bothered about a Yugiohcard maker! Its not illegal to make fake yugioh cards with already illegal pictures. I give credit to the artist every time, and so should everyone. But it's just annoying to whine. So to my fellow artist, we love you guys! Just... you're annoying sometimes! But, yeah, if you have the time or the opertunity... it's best to ask. and just don't post until you have permission.
A●O●J
Pros of the rule-Rightful Credit to the artists are given.-Helps YCM avoid getting into some legal matters.-Perhaps by leaving a url on the comment to YCM, it will attract more members.Cons of the rule-Those who do not have a DA account will have a minor problem, but can be solved by simply making an account.-Makes the task of finding a good pic for your card more difficult-Permission depends on the artist, which means that they can simply choose not to reply to you. Personally, Im quite annoyed with the new rule, but it makes sense and Im going to follow it as best I can.
Jericho
Making an image does not automatically grant copyright. Unless a copyright and copyright date are present, the image in question is in fact legally in the public domain and legally useable for ANYONE to use. Guest
This has been debated a ton, and pros and cons have been weighed. Your appreciation is commendable, but frankly there's really nothing to be gained from a thread like this. The rule is there, it will be enforced, and there isn't anything else to discuss :P
