As Shawn Michaels explained, he didn't care about winning the Title, and he felt that Kofi Kingston deserved a Title Shot, so he talked to Mick Foley about it. It makes sense, too, because it's just another way to "hurt" Edge before their match at Extreme Rules.

Just so you're aware' date=' that is a House Show Event, and World Titles never really change hands at House Shows. So as far as actual episodes are concerned, Jeff Hardy will have his first Title Defense at Extreme Rules.[/size']

[color=brown]”And ladies and gentlemen, it was announced yesterday on [url=www.legacywwe.blogspot.com]”wwe.net”[/url] that the ECW Champion Christian suffered a severe knee injury that will put him out of action for at least three to four months.”[/color]

[color=green]”Christian had certainly made an impact here in ECW, winning the ECW Championship – and his first World Championship – in his first match. Christian underwent successful knee surgery yesterday afternoon and he’s on to rehabilitation. We wish Christian the best of luck.”[/color]

[color=brown]”The injury – of course – forced Christian to vacate the ECW Championship moments before defending it against “The All-American American” Jack Swagger at the Live Event. Now, rather than award Swagger the belt, Theodore Long allowed any superstar in the back to come out and compete in a match against Jack Swagger with the Title on the line.”[/color]

[color=green]”The man that accepted the challenge was one that no one expected; “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin.”[/color]

The crowd boos heavily as the new ECW Champion, Shelton Benjamin, makes his way into the arena. He’s dressed in a black dress suit and wearing a pair of black sunglasses. The ECW Championships rests on his shoulder, and many fans boo as he walks past them.

[color=brown]”And as you can see, Shelton Benjamin defeated Jack Swagger to become the new ECW Champion, becoming a World Champion for the first time in his storied career.”[/color]

[color=green]”Matt, many people call Shelton Benjamin the best pure athlete in WWE today, and it’s hard to disagree with that statement.”[/color]

[color=brown]”It sure is. I’ve been in the ring with Shelton Benjamin many times, and he’s got such a large variety of moves that he throws at you. Jack Swagger put up a great fight, but Benjamin got the better of him.”[/color]

“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome, the new ECW World Champion, The Gold Standard, Shelton Benjamin!”

Boos fill the arena as “The Gold Standard” steps into the ring. He holds up the ECW Championship in the middle of the ring – receiving more boos – before requesting a microphone.

“It took seven long years…” Benjamin pauses, taking a moment to take in the excitement. Not from the crowd, but from being ECW Champion. “It took seven long years, but I did it. I am the new E C W World Champion, and that’s not going to change; not for a long, long time.” Boos and “You suck!” chants fill the arena. “I am The Gold Standard, and I lived up to that once again when I added another piece of Gold to my Championship history by becoming your ECW Champion.” Benjamin stops talking and takes off his sunglasses. “Now here’s the thing that bothers me; I’m not stupid. I know that Christian faked that injury.” The crowd boos. “Yeah, that’s exactly what he did. I know for a fact that Christian’s in the back right now. He wants to come out to this ring and insult me, make fun of me, whatever it takes to get a warm reaction from each and every one of you. But that’s not going to happen. You see, now that I’m the ECW Champion, we’re in a new era in the Land of Extreme. The era of Shelton Benjamin.” Benjamin adjusts the ECW Championship on his shoulder as it starts to fall. “So Christian, since you’re back there, why don’t you come to the ring right now and you can try your best to make me look bad. You can try, but you’ll fail.”

[color=green]”As far as I know, Christian’s injury was completely real, and he’s at home right now resting.”[/color]

[color=brown]”That’s what I was told as well, but maybe Shelton Benjamin knows something that we don’t.”[/color]

[color=green]”Well uh…I mean are we gonna hear from Captain Charisma or what?”[/color]

“So that’s how it’s gonna be, huh? You’re gonna stand back there and continue to pull this crap? Well fine. What’s it going to take to get you out here, Christian? I’m the best pure athlete in the WWE today, and I know I could take you easily.” The crowd boos heavily once again. “Do I have to insult these unathletic, unattractive, unintelligent nobodies sitting here in this arena? Is that it?” Benjamin gets major heat for this comment. “Come on Christian, I’m not leaving this ring until you…”

The crowd pops as The Innovator of Violence emerges on the stage. Benjamin looks a bit surprised, and a bit angry at the same time. Dreamer walks to the ring, dressed in wrestling attire. He takes some time to high-five a bunch of fans.

[color=brown]”Well, this isn’t Christian, but it is a man that has been a long-time supporter of the WWE Universe, and a man that rightfully earned an ECW Championship Match at Extreme Rules!”[/color]

[color=green]”Shelton Benjamin doesn’t look pleased to see Tommy Dreamer out here, that’s for sure.”[/color]

Dreamer enters the ring to a big pop and gets a microphone. He stares at Shelton Benjamin for a moment. “Let me tell you something about these people.” Dreamer stares at Benjamin with intensity in his eyes. “They may not be as “athletically superior” as you are, but each and every person out there in the crowd is a better person than you could ever hope to be.” “Dreamer” chants begin to fill the arena. “These people have supported me and all of ECW since it first began, and they continue to do so each and every day. You may think you can just storm in here, win the ECW Championship, and call yourself the best of the best, but that’s not how it’s going to work around here.” Dreamer says to a big pop. “Well let me tell you something…that is not how it works around here.”

“No, let me tell YOU something.” The crowd boos once more as Benjamin interrupts Dreamer’s “speech”. “I may not be an ECW Original like you, but I’m not a washed-up has-been like you either. Tommy Dreamer is a name that will soon be forgotten, but “The Gold Standard” Shelton Benjamin is a name that will live on forever.”

“Your name may live on forever, but your Title Reign won’t.” [b]Woah![/b] The crowd pops huge as Dreamer smacks Benjamin in the side of the head with a microphone, taking him to his knees. Dreamer pulls Benjamin to his feet and kicks him in the chest before dropping him with a DDT to a massive ovation.

[color=brown]”Wow! Tommy Dreamer just made one h*ll of an impact here on ECW! Shelton Benjamin will face Tommy Dreamer at Extreme Rules, and if Benjamin wasn’t taking Dreamer seriously before, they’re certainly seeing eye-to-eye now.”[/color]

[color=green]”A big opening to a big ECW, Matt. We’ve still got a lot ahead of us, but right now we’re going to take a quick commercial.”[/color]

[color=brown]”We’re back live, and it looks like this already big show is going to get even bigger.”[/color]

[color=green]”Many people have called this man – Tyson Tomko – the most dominant force in the Land of Extreme.”[/color]

[color=brown]”That’s something I’d find it hard to disagree with, were it not for the fact that The World’s Strongest Man Mark Henry is still a member of the ECW Roster.”[/color]

[color=green]”That’s for sure. I know the reason you brought that up is because The World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry, is making his official return to the ring next week.”[/color]

[color=brown]”You’re correct, and that’s something I’m looking forward to.”[/color]

Tomko steps into the ring to a small reaction. Not many boos, not many cheers. He stands in the corner, eyes fixed on his opponent, a Denver native. His opponent stands five feet, seven inches tall and weighs about two-hundred and fourteen pounds.

[color=brown]”Shane Wilson, Tomko's opponent, grew up here in Denver and he’s been wrestling since the age of thirteen. If I’m correct, Wilson is now twenty-eight, so that’s fifteen years he’s been a wrestler. Wilson might prove to be a big challenge for Tomko to overcome here tonight.”[/color]

[color=green]”Yes, you could say he could be a “problem” for the big man to solve.”[/color]

First Match: Tyson Tomko vs. Shane Wilson

Match: The crowd tries to start a “Wilson” chant, but it ends quicker than it began. Wilson foolishly suggests a lock-up in the center of the ring, to which Tomko happily obliges. Wilson tries a kick to the chest, but Tomko grabs his foot and blocks it. He pushes Wilson forward while still holding his foot, slamming him back-first into the mat. The “hometown hero” grabs the back of his neck in pain. Tomko waits for Wilson to get to his feet and drives him into the corner. A powerful elbow to the side of the head follows suit. Wilson falls down in the corner as Tomko backs up. He runs forward and goes for a kick in the corner, but Wilson wisely dodges it. He hits Tomko with a Right Hand to the back and tries a Backslide Pin, but The Problem Solver kicks out at one.

[color=brown]”Nice strategy there by Wilson; trying to end the match as soon as possible. Staying in the ring with a man like Tyson Tomko isn’t good for your health.”[/color]

[color=green]”This would be a big win for Shane Wilson tonight; he could certainly make a name for himself by picking up a victory over the undefeated Tyson Tomko.”[/color]

Wilson goes for a Forearm Smash, but Tomko ducks it and hits a Clothesline of his own, taking out the young superstar. The crowd boos a bit, but they’re not really into the match at all. Tomko kicks Wilson in the chest and lifts him up, going for a Powerbomb, but the Denver native rolls forward and hits a Roll-Up Pin. “1! 2!” Tomko kicks out. Wilson hits a Dropkick and goes to the top rope. He leaps forward, going for a Diving Clothesline as Tomko gets to his feet, but gets dropped with a Big Boot in mid-air. The Referee checks on Wilson, realizes that he is unconscious, and signals for the bell to ring.

Winner (by Knockout): Tyson Tomko

[color=brown]”Ouch! That one had to hurt. Shane Wilson looked to have the advantage, but that Big Boot from Tomko literally knocked Wilson’s lights out.”[/color]

[color=green]”Tyson Tomko remains undefeated here in ECW, and one’s gotta wonder if there’s anyone that will be a real challenge for him.”[/color]

We return live and Shelton Benjamin is standing in Theodore Long’s office. Long doesn’t look happy.

“What is it that’s so important, Shelton?” Long asks, seemingly annoyed.

“Let me tell you something, Teddy. I am the best superstar on this show; there’s no denying that. Yet, for some reason, I’m not respected around here.” The crowd boos in response to Benjamin’s arrogance. “Earlier tonight, Tommy Dreamer interrupted my promo. Not only did he do that, he had the nerve to attack me. I’m not gonna stand for things like that on my show.”

“Your show? Listen up playa, this ain’t your show, and it never will be. I run this show, and I run it the way that the WWE Universe wants it to be run.” The crowd pops. “Now, I’m not sure if you know this, but Tommy Dreamer is the Number One Contender for the ECW Championship.” Benjamin sighs, as he knows what’s coming next. “That being said, at Extreme Rules, you’re going to have your first Title Defense, and it’s going to be against The Innovator of Violence, Tommy Dreamer!"

"Dreamer" chants begin to fill the arena as Benjamin hesitates. "I bet you expect me to get worked up over that, right? You expect me to whine and complain about it; something Jack Swagger or Christian would do." The crowd boos. "Well that's not me, Teddy. I am the best athlete on ECW, and I have nothing to be scared of. If Tommy Dreamer wants a match, that's fine with me. I'll make an example out of him." More boos fill the arena as "The Gold Standard" begins to exit Theodore Long's office.

"Hold on a second, playa." Benjamin stops and turns around. "You brought up a good point when ya said that you were the best athlete on ECW. If that's true, then why not reward the WWE Universe by puttin you in a match, right here tonight?!"

"Teddy, I'm not in the mood to compete tonight. I've got just under two weeks before I have to defend my Championship against..."

"Sorry playa, but you're gonna have to compete." Long interrupts. "Don't worry, though. For someone of your stature, it should be no problem at all. So Shelton, I suggest going to get changed, because you're gonna be in action against ECW's most up-and-coming star, Brownlee!" The crowd pops huge and Shelton walks out, frustrated.

[color=brown]"What a match that's gonna be! Shelton Benjamin makes his Debut as ECW Champion tonight when he takes on Brownlee!"[/color]

[color=green]"Brownlee as we know has become good friends with Christian, and you've gotta wonder if Brownlee'll take lightly to Benjamin's remarks toward Christian earlier tonight."[/color]

[color=brown]"Well, we're standing by with the newest member of our announce team, Ryan Wall!"[/color]

A man, about five feet, ten inches tall appears on the TitanTron. He is holding a microphone and standing in front of a Television Monitor. He has brown hair that is flipped up in the front.

"It is an honor to be broadcasting for ECW, and there's no man I'd rather have as my first interview guest than this man, Evan Bourne!" The crowd pops huge as Evan "Air" Bourne appears on the TitanTron with his ECW Tag Team Championship Belt around his waist. "Evan, in just under a week you and your Tag Team Partner and fellow Tag Team Champion, Ren, are scheduled to defend the ECW Tag Team Championships against The Hart Dynasty. Are you guys ready going into this match?"

"Ya see Ryan, Ren and I are always ready. These Titles define our career and the respect that we've earned as the ECW Tag Team Champions. No one has beaten us yet, and I will come back and say that same exact thing next Tuesday."

"The other question I have is, two weeks ago on ECW you defeated the Heat World Champion, William Regal. Not only did you defeat him, but you defeated him in under two minutes. Many consider this an upset, but..."

"Let me stop you right there. Many people consider it an upset, but I consider it a victory. Once Ren and I defeat The Hart Dynasty on Raw and retain the ECW Tag Team Championships, I'm going to challenge William Regal to a match and take his Title." The crowd pops as Bourne walks away.

[color=green]"Evan Bourne is confident, but will that confidence be enough? We'll find out when Evan Bourne and Ren defend the ECW Tag Team Championships against The Hart Dynasty."[/color]

[color=brown]"When we return, we're going to see "The Gold Standard" Shelton Benjamin in one-on-one action with one of the most impressive ECW Superstars, Brownlee!"[/color]

[color=brown]"Ladies and gentlemen welcome back to E C W, and it's time for our Main Event! Shelton Benjamin became the ECW Champion this past Sunday at a Live Event, and we learned earlier tonight that he will have his first Title Defense against Tommy Dreamer at Extreme Rules!"[/color]

[color=green]"People say that Tommy Dreamer is The Heart and Soul of ECW, and he's finally going to have a chance to regain the ECW Championship."[/color]

[color=brown]"Tommy Dreamer is the last remaining ECW Original in today's ECW, and if he is unable to win at Extreme Rules, he will never wrestle on ECW again. I for one - no disrespect to Tommy Dreamer - want to see Shelton Benjamin retain the Championship. I think it's good to have an athlete like Shelton Benjamin represent the ECW Brand."[/color]

Brownlee steps into the arena, receiving a big pop from the crowd. He walks to the ring, holding a microphone. He high-fives some fans before stopping at the end of the ramp.

[color=green]"Brownlee has been impressive since making his Debut here in ECW; he defeated Jack Swagger in his first match on the brand."[/color]

[color=brown]"Not only did Brownlee Debut in a big way, he played a big part in Christian becoming the ECW Champion last week. I think Shelton Benjamin's going to have one h*ll of a challenge in Brownlee."[/color]

Main Event Match: Shelton Benjamin vs. Brownlee

Match: The Referee signals for the bell and what could possibly be the most athletic competition in a long time on ECW gets underway. A loud "Brownlee" chant begins to fill the arena, and Benjamin seems annoyed by it. Benjamin goes for a Clothesline, but Brownlee ducks it and hits an Armbar. Benjamin rolls to his feet quickly and Brownlee tries another Armbar, but this time Benjamin counters into an Armbar of his own, taking Brownlee to the mat. He pushes on Brownlee's shoulder while keeping hold of the arm, trying to apply pressure on that area. The Referee asks Brownlee if he wants to Submit, but The Unusual Superstar refuses. "The Gold Standard" pulls Brownlee to his feet and hits a Vertical Suplex, holding the newcomer above his shoulders for a good ten seconds before slamming him to the mat. Benjamin tries a cover, hooking the inside leg, but only gets a two count.

[color=brown]"Brownlee demonstrated his wrestling abilities in his match with Jack Swagger, but I've noticed that Brownlee's style is completely different than the ECW Champion's style. Benjamin relies more on techinical moves, whereas Brownlee goes for a lot of power moves. The difference in styles should make for a great contest here."[/color]

Brownlee hits a Dropkick on Benjamin, sending him through the second rope and out of the ring. The crowd pops huge as Brownlee taunts. He rebounds off the ropes and leaps over the opposite ropes, hitting Benjamin with a Plancha. Both superstars fall to the mat below and the crowd goes wild. Brownlee gets to his feet and pulls Benjamin to his feet, only to get tackled into the ring apron. Benjamin hits a few Shoulder Thrusts before throwing Brownlee into the ring. "The Gold Standard" taunts, getting major heat from the crowd. He rolls into the ring and hooks the legs..."1! 2!" Brownlee kicks out again! Benjamin yells at the Referee for a moment, frustrated that he didn't get the victory.

[color=green]"Brownlee is definitely resilient, Matt. Will that help him in this match?"[/color]

[color=brown]"Normally, it would, but Shelton Benjamin's just as - if not more - resilient. Benjamin won't give up, so the only way to really defeat him is to actually take him out. I'm not so sure Brownlee can do that."[/color]

Benjamin Irish Whips Brownlee into the corner and goes for a Corner Clothesline, but misses. Brownlee runs out of the corner and Benjamin leaps backwards off the second turnbuckle before turning around and going for a Diving Crossbody. Brownlee gets taken down by the move, but turns it into a Roll-Up Pin! "1! 2! Three--no!" Benjamin rolls out! Both superstars run toward each other - having the same idea - and take each other down with a Clothesline. A "Brownlee" chants fill the arena once again as both superstars struggle to get to their feet. Brownlee hits a Right Hand "Ya!"; then Benjamin "Boo!"; Brownlee "Ya!"; then Benjamin "Boo!"; Brownlee tries another one, but Benjamin ducks it and grabs Brownlee's head. He slams the back of it into his knee and Brownlee falls to the mat. Cover! "1! 2!" And again Brownlee kicks out!

[color=brown]"We've seen a lot of near falls in this match; it's gotta come to an end sooner or later, though."[/color]

[color=green]"Shelton Benjamin has control, but can he keep it? We'll find out after this!"[/color]

Commercial break

We return from the commercial and Brownlee is on the top rope. He dives, going for a Diving Clothesline, but Benjamin dodges it. Benjamin goes for Paydirt, but Brownlee blocks it and pushes him face-first into the turnbuckle. Benjamin stumbles backwards out of the corner and Brownlee hits a [b]GERMAN SUPLEX![/b] The crowd pops as Brownlee tries a cover! "1! 2! This is gonna do it! Three--no!" Benjamin gets his foot on the bottom rope! Brownlee looks up at the Referee, thinking he won the match, but the Referee explains to him that Benjamin got his foot on the bottom rope. Brownlee pulls Benjamin toward the center of the ring and hits a Standing Moonsault to a huge pop! Cover..."1! 2! No!"

[color=brown]"Wow! Neither of these guys wants to quit here! We're one move away from a victory here!"[/color]

Benjamin goes for a Clothesline, but Brownlee ducks it. He hooks Benjamin's head and goes for what looks like a Twist of Fate, but Benjamin pushes him into the ropes. Brownlee rebounds backwards off the ropes and hits a Springboard Elbow. The crowd pops as Brownlee rolls to his feet and takes Benjamin down with a Clothesline, followed by another Clothesline. Beginning to build momentum, Brownlee measures up Benjamin for a Twist of Fate-like move once again, but Benjamin pushes him into the ropes. Brownlee turns around and takes Benjamin down with a Clothesline.

The crowd boos as "The All-American American" enters the arena. He walks slowly down the ramp and Brownlee turns his attention to the former ECW Champion as Benjamin gets to his feet. Brownlee tries to leave the ring, but Benjamin pulls him toward the center of the ring and hits [b]PAYDIRT![/b] Boos fill the arena as "The Gold Standard" hooks the legs of his opponent. "1! 2! 3!"

Winner: Shelton Benjamin

[color=green]"Well that does it; thanks to Jack Swagger, Shelton Benjamin has picked up a victory here tonight."[/color]

[color=brown]"Thanks to Jack Swagger? Shelton Benjamin had the match won before Jack Swagger even came out."[/color]

[color=green]"If you say so, Matt."[/color]

Benjamin climbs to the top rope and holds the ECW Championship above his head. The crowd boos as the show comes to a close.
