Guest
If the dub is uncut and the voice actors are perfect, it can be good, but in the vast majority of cases the sub is superior.
Guest PikaPerson01
Depends. Some subs can go too literal, and as such humour or cultural references may be lost. Something like a pun can very easily get lost in translation. Depends on the quality of subbers, but even then, obviously having the sub read by well trained voice actors would also suffice. Depends on the quality of subbers, but even then, obviously having the sub read by well trained voice actors would also suffice.[/quote'] True. It's especially irritating when the subbers leave things untranslated and then try to explain it in notes at the top of the screen, Of course, some notes and puns are going to be lost in translation no matter how it's done; if two words rhyme in Japanese but don't in English, nothing can save the pun. The biggest problem with dubs is that, even when uncut, the voice actors have a tendency to not fit. For example, having JYB do Lelouch's voice in the Code Geass dub really does not work. (The other problem is that dubs, unlike subs, have an annoying tendency to not be uncut.)
Wyhe
what the japanese make are best left in japanese & what the americans made is best left in their way of english...no matter how lame they sound

CardAce
Myself, I prefer the subs. Most of the time, dubs get all screwed up in translation, and they mess up the voices of the characters.
