Gogeta™
Does anyone know why the cards in the anime only include the attribute, ATK and DEF, and Level? What I mean is, how do the characters know the effect, name, and the name of the attribute without any text being visible on the cards? Is all the animation for cards to look like they do in the real world cost too much for the show? The only time I've ever seen the cards look like they do in real life is in Yu-Gi-Oh! The Movie. Uchiha
Its just because they wanna be cheap. Also, the Show started before the TCG.
-Berserker-
I think only 4Kids changed the look of the cards, probably in the japanese anime they appear like they look in the game.

Cin
Cards in the anime do show effect, which is how people can translate them whether, DM also showed the card text (just checked an animation from the Doma arc I made, clearly showing the text for BEWD and checked Janime all the way back to Mai Vs Anzu). Its appears to be just the dub who doesn't like showing the effect. In the first version of YGO there was no effects, because monsters played had no effects, infact I doubt there was any effects at all back in 96/98. Phantom Roxas
^FWA rocks. On-topic: 4Kids, being the horrible and cheap editors, they make you assume the duelists memorize the effects. *Looks for Japanese version of Mai vs. Anzu* EDIT: Saw the Japanese Version. Would've been better if Mai won. And unsurprisingly, it was "Awesome, I got Waboku!" rather than "Duhh, what does this card do again?"
StevenBray
It's so they so don't have to:1 - Translate all the writing on the cards in the Japanese Version, and then write it in English (which takes times and money)and 2 - So that when they've done writing the card in English, they don't have to (potentially) pay Konami for the rights to show their cards - since once the card has been translated, they are showing a product that Konami produce, and thus own the rights to the appearance of. So all in all it's Monetary "concerns" again... but still are you surprised that 4Kids are doing it?
Lazer Yoshi
4Kids fails, yet Wins again. Seriously, this is stupid.Let people know the effect! Who do you think watches this show? FIVE YEAR OLDS!(Meant for joke XD)However, 4Kids is just that way. Once Cartoon Network buys them out, I'll probably do a little dance for a few hours. If anything, Viz might get them since they're in charge of the Manga.
Wyhe
4kids don't want to imply that they are advertising for the game like the japanese anime does,so they just do the editing & there we have it.
Professor Cobra
In the Duelist Kingdom season, when Tea dueled Mai, Tea asked herself, "Waboku! Now, if I remembered what it does."That made me ask: "In your world, Konami doesn't add text? Then just say it automatically wins you duel."It is easier than the original anime (all version) does. In the raw and subbed, the text, although in Japanese, is there.

Phantom Roxas
It's because it takes to long to draw a separate card. The only thing they need to fix is the text, they don't need to draw another card.

YamiNoMarikuXChiine
it's just because the yugioh abridged serie is dubbedthey f*cked up the yugioh cardsyou really MUST watch the Japanese version of yugioh Duel monstersthat's the best. ~Chiineohohohoh i must tell you something again ^^'well you said that the cards are the same in the movie like in the real world eh?well, what i think isthe reason that they change the cards in the abridged series is that if they do more changes in the cards, that they have more money cause they worked for it to cut some scénes out of the yugioh episodewell i have the whole serie of yugioh duelmonsters in japaneseand i don't like the abridged seriesbut, they just do it for money i guess.that's wat i think. =3i hope you get ^^''my english isn't so good, sorry for that ^^'''''

Mysty
In the Japanese version they look like they should, but apparently the FCC forbids the entire card being shown or something similar. Also, the kids must have gone to school to learn the effects or something. Also, I bet they call the cards whatever the hell they want and conveniently get it right or something. Phantom Roxas
For those who say that the FCC forbids advertisement, I have one thing to say: Pyramid of Light. Or are regulations different for movies?
J.P
Yes. Advertising real-life products to children on TV in the US is prohibited by the FCC, however the FCC have no jurisdiction when it comes to cinema, so it's fair game there. Or are regulations different for movies?[/quote'] The Pyramid of Light was considered WAY overpowered in the movie, and it shouldn't have worked anyway. It's a trap which removes the Gods from play, but traps cannot affect God cards (well, at least not if you use it against them)
J.P
Correction Rag: The God cards cannot be DESTROYED OR HAVE CONTROL SWITCHED by monster effects, spells and traps, and they are only affected by spells and traps for one turn (except when it's by a higher tier God, i.e Ra.), but of course with them being removed from play by Pyramid Of Light, that's not really an issue.
