master of the shadows
YU-GI-OH5D's INFO:PlotSet in the year 2021, the game of Duel Monsters has changed; a new addition has been introduced to the future of dueling as seen in 5D's: "Turbo Duels". These duels are played in giant stadiums, and duelists ride motorcycles with built-in duel equipment known as "Duel Runners". Domino City has also changed, under the guidance of the head of its public maintenance bureau, Rex Goodwin. Rich and powerful people live in what is now known as "Neo Domino City", while the poorer class are shunned and live mostly in the slums area, known as "Satellite". They are referred to in the Japanese version as "Satellite scum" (kuzu) by the inhabitants of Neo Domino City. (There is significantly less emphasis on class in the 4Kids adaptation.) An aspiring duelist from Satellite, Yusei Fudo, builds his own Duel Runner, but is betrayed by his best friend, Jack Atlas, who steals his Runner and his most precious monster, the Stardust Dragon. While Jack battles his way to the top and becomes Duel King, Yusei is forced to live on in Satellite with his friends. The Crimson Dragon, as seen during Yusei and Jack's Turbo Duel. Two years later, Yusei has built another Duel Runner, and sets out to win back his Dragon and regain the bonds he once had with his friend. Jack, now known as the King of the Riding Duel, has made a name for himself and his monster, the Red Dragon Archfiend (Red Daemon's Dragon in the Japanese version), in Neo Domino City. Yusei and Jack face each other in a Turbo Duel, and during the duel Yusei is able to regain control of Stardust Dragon. As Stardust and Red Dragon Archfiend battle, a third dragon appears and brings an abrupt end to the fight. This attracts the attention of Rex Goodwin, who reveals to Jack an ancient secret - thousands of years ago, the "People of the Stars" (星の民, Hoshi no Tami?), a pre-Incan civilization, were attacked by evil monsters, and summoned a mighty beast known as the "Crimson Dragon" to protect themselves. The Crimson Dragon imprisoned the evil forces into the ground, forming what are now the Nazca Lines. Goodwin reveals to Jack that five descendants of the People of the Stars are still alive in the present day, and have the power to call the Crimson Dragon once again, in order to guard against the return of evil. These five "Signers" (シグナー, Shigunā?) may be recognized by the "Dragon Marks" they bear, a symbol on their body representing a part of the Crimson Dragon. The Marks react and begin glowing when their owner or another Signer is dueling. There are five Marks, the Dragon's head, tail, wings, and two claws. Currently, the bearers of four of the Marks are known. Jack has carried the wings since birth, and the tail originally appeared on Yusei's arm during the battle between Stardust Dragon and Red Dragon Archfiend. After the duel ended, the Mark vanished, but it reappears often when Yusei is around other active Signers. The third Signer is the "Black Rose Witch", Akiza, a girl who possesses psychic abilities. She believes her Dragon Mark to be the cause of her strange powers. Goodwin has started a dueling tournament, the Fortune Cup, in order to locate the remaining Signers. Yusei and his friend Luna have both been invited, as has the mysterious Black Rose Witch. The winner of the tournament will be given the honor of facing off against the Duel King, Jack. During the tournament, Luna is confirmed as being the fourth Signer and Goodwin's severed hand holds the final birthmark, calling forth the Crimson Dragon again in the final match between Yusei and Jack, in which past and future events are shown before them. Yusei wins and becomes the new Duel King, but soon encounters a new enemy. This mysterious group uses spiders to control other citizens and make them into Dark Signers that can perform Shadow Duels using Dark Tuner and Dark Synchro monsters. [edit] Characters Yusei Fudo, the series' main protagonist.Main article: List of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's characters [edit] Synchro SummonA prominent new feature of the Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's series, is the use of "Tuner Monsters" and "Synchro Monsters". A "Synchro Summon" is activated when a player summons a Tuner Monster and tunes it with one or more non-tuner monsters on the field. Based on the sum of the levels of each monster, a Synchro Monster of that level can be summoned. For example, when a Lv3 Junk Synchron tunes itself with a Lv2 Speed Warrior, the Lv5 Junk Warrior can be summoned. These monsters can also be tuned once again in order to summon higher level Synchro Monsters such as the Lv8 Stardust Dragon. These monsters also contain additional attributes based on the Tuner Monster used as a material. In the second season, there are "Dark Synchro Monsters" that can only be Synchro Summoned by subtracting the level of a non-tuner monster with a "Dark Tuner Monster". Thus, creating a negative Level. For example, a Lv8 Dark Tuner Monster can be tuned with a Lv3 Monster to summon a Lv-5 Dark Synchro Monster. [edit] Duel Runner Yusei riding his Red Duel Runner during a duel.As well as the normal standing duels, the latest Yu-Gi-Oh series features the "Turbo Duels", an all-new style of duel in which the players ride "Duel Runners" (or simply "Runners" for short), motorcycles with Duel equipment. Compared to the previous series, dueling with Runners contain some special rules. First, the duel is entirely played using the field magic "Speed World", which is activated by both players when the duel begins; it is possible to force a duel with someone on a Duel Runner by playing the card. Second, only magic cards designed to work into this field, known as Speed Spells, are allowed in the duel. Each magic needs a number of "Speed Counters" to be activated. Each duelist starts with zero Speed Counters and its number increase by one in each standby phase, up to a maximum of 12. The number of speed counters also affects the actual speed of the Duel Runner. A player's Speed Counters are reduced by one for every 1000 points of damage done to their Life Points. When a winner is decided, the Duel Runner of the defeated duelist shuts down automatically. The Duel Runner features the card platform, sitting in front of the duelist, a stand for the cards in hand, which allows the duelist to ride with one hand while using the cards with the other, and a compartment for the deck located in the player's wrist. Cards sent to graveyard are inserted in a slot also located in front of the duelist. In some Duel Runner models (called hybrid models), the card platform can be detached from the bike and function as a standard Duel Disk for old-fashioned duels. An example of a hybrid model is Yusei's red Duel Runner. In the original Japanese language version, Duel Runners are called "D-Wheels", and Turbo Duels are known as "Riding Duels". [edit] Signers and Dark SignersA Dragon birthmark is a special mark that indicates that a person is a Signer. Each birthmark represents a part of the Crimson Dragon. Currently, only four people have been confirmed to have a Dragon's Birthmark: Yusei Fudo (who has the Tail Birthmark), Jack Atlas (who has the Wings Birthmark), Aki Izayoi (who has the Front Claw Birthmark) and Luna (who has the Rear Claw Birthmark). A severed arm bearing the Head Birthmark is in Godwin's possession. The Dark Signers, on the other hand possess spider-like marks that are only temporary, infusing the person with dark powers and Dark Monsters. However, once defeated, the person has no memory of being a Dark Signer and all influence by the spider birthmark is removed. [edit] English versionWhen the series was translated over for American release, changes were made in order to make the series more accessible for younger audiences. Recurring edits include the altering of the cards that the players use in duels, to remove all of the Japanese text and ensure that the cards don't resemble their real life counterparts (this edit is made in all Yu-Gi-Oh! series in order to comply with an FCC law mandating that no real-world products be showcased on children television), as well as altering the Life Point counters and removing several pieces of English text. Most of the background music is completely replaced with a new musical score 4Kids creates, though some of the original Japanese music remains. Even all the sound effects are completely replaced with new American sound effects 4Kids creates from the original Japanese sound effects, with none of the Japanese sound effects remaining. The setting of the country is changed from Japan to the United States, just like in past dubs. While character names are less deviant from their Japanese version than in other Yu-Gi-Oh! series, changes are still present: Aki Izayoi had her first and last names merged to form "Akiza," while Lua and Luca are now known as Luka and Luna, respectively. And even though the characters keep their Japanese names and sometimes have names changed to Japanese names, they live in America in the 4Kids dub and their nationality is changed from Japanese to American. Episodes are re-edited, and backstory details are added. At certain intervals, songs were eliminated from the competition. In the end, Hyper Drive received the most votes. "Hyper Drive" (All Episodes) [edit] Addendum"5D's" has been incorrectly quoted as standing for "5 Duel Scoop." V-Jump magazine printed a feature in their "Yu-Gi-Oh! Oukoku" (Yu-Gi-Oh! Kingdom) series which "5DS" (without the apostrophe) was labeled as "5 Duel Scoop," which referred to the information within the feature itself. (As further stated by the article "Getting the Scoop on 5 Major News Flashes on New Dueling Developments." And listing each item as "DS1"-"DS5.")[7] Merchandise, television commercials, the logo itself, and other references all state the name as "Faibu Diizu". ICv2 News also has the name "5 Duel Scoop" listed in its 4Kids article. [2]. The battle begins in the now deserted Duel Stadium. Yusei finds himself up against not only the fearsome Red Demon's Dragon, but also his own Stardust Dragon which Jack placed in his deck. 05 "A Blast from the Past, Part 2""Clashing Ace Dragons! Stardust VS Red Demons" (激突するエース・ドラゴン!スターダストVSレッド・デーモンズ) 2008-04-30 2008-10-11 Yusei and Jack's battle continues, with Yusei finally regaining control of Stardust Dragon. Both Yusei and Jack's arms burn as Stardust and Red Demon's Dragon clash, and both their dragon-shaped birthmarks begin glowing. A third Dragon appears in the sky, blazing red. The duel ends with no victor and the appearance of Neo Domino City Security forces. 06 "The Facility, Part 1""Take a Look! Treasure Deck of Mine!" (見てくれ!ワシの秘宝デッキ!) 2008-05-07 2008-10-18 Yusei is arrested and sent to a detention center, where he meets an old man named Yanagi, who duels using what he calls his "Hidden Treasure" deck. Yanagi faces off against another prisoner, Himuro - and is shortly revealed to be a very poor duelist. Although lacking skills, he still cares deeply about his cards, something Yusei can relate to. Meanwhile, Godwin reviews Jack's duel with Yusei, and discovers that, had they not been interrupted by the appearance of the Crimson Dragon, Jack would have been defeated. 07 "The Facility, Part 2""Feelings for the Cards! Crystal Skull VS Great Bull Ogre" (カードにこめた想い!水晶ドクロVS大牛鬼) 2008-05-14 2008-10-25 Yusei has had enough of hearing Himuro making fun of Yanagi's cards and dueling skills, so he takes up Yanagi's deck and challenges Himuro to a duel, much to everyone else's surprise, since Yusei is not dueling with his usual cards. Yusei wants to teach Himuro that every deck has a winning strategy, regardless of their value to others. Godwin reveals to Jack the legend of the People of the Stars, the Signers and the Crimson Dragon. 08 "Unfulfilled Soul: Signers and the Legendary Dragon" (満たされぬ魂 シグナーと伝説の竜) 2008-05-21 Yusei is interrogated for information on his Dragon Mark, and Godwin comes to the detention center to speak with him further. Yanagi tells Yusei what he knows about the Signers and the five dragons, and suspects that Yusei's Stardust Dragon may be one of the five. 09 "Feelings Hanging for the Cards: A Planned Lightning Deathmatch" (カードにかける思い 仕組まれたライトニング・デスマッチ) 2008-05-28 Yusei is transferred to a different cell, away from Yanagi. His new cellmate, Aoyama, plans to escape and offers to take Yusei with him, but he refuses to leave without Yanagi and Himuro. Meanwhile, Takasu has been harassing Himuro, and Yusei ends up in a duel against him, using a deck built with treasured cards given to him by all the other prisoners. 10 "Deck Zero: Break the Chain Trap Loop" (デッキ0 チェーントラップのループを破れ) 2008-06-04 Yusei is caught in Takasu's trap - not only is he forced to discard ten cards each turn, each Life Point lost also delivers a painful electric shock. Takasu has disabled the electric current to his own Duel Disk, and thus does not feel any pain, until Aoyama breaks into the control room. He starts the current flowing again, but Takasu just gets back up and keeps going. Despite the overwhelming odds, Yusei is able to pull through and win the duel. He is allowed to leave the prison. 11 "Special Pursuit Deck Again: Regain the Bonds with a Friend" (特殊追跡デッキ再び 取り戻せ仲間との絆) 2008-06-11 Although he is now out of the detention center, Yusei has noticed that he is being followed by Godwin's agents. Luckily, he is taken by a former duelist named Saiga, the man who Himuro told him could help get his deck back. After discovering Saiga's past, Yusei infiltrates Godwin's tower and finally recovers his D-Wheel and dueling deck, but not before Ushio shows up and challenges him to another Riding Duel. 12 "Dead Chase! Weave the Bonds, Turbo Warrior" (死闘追跡! 絆を紡げターボウォリアー) 2008-06-18 Yusei continues to avoid Ushio's brutal direct attacks as he attempts to escape with Saiga's help, but things only get harder from there. Despite the danger, Yusei resolves to restore Saiga's faith in bonds with other people. When Ushio brings out Goyou Guardian, Yusei tunes four of his weak monsters together to summon Turbo Warrior. 13 "Dial On! Roar, Deformer Deck" (ダイヤル・オン! うなれディーフォーマーデッキ) 2008-06-25 Yusei is able to escape from the police, but crashes his D-Wheel and is knocked unconscious. When he wakes up, he has been rescued and hidden from the police by twin duelists Lua and Luca, who live in the Tops area of Neo Domino City. Rejoiced to see that Yusei is alright, Lua asks him for a friendly duel - Yusei's junk deck against Lua's deformer deck. 14 "Bringer of Folklore Destruction Appears "Black Rose Witch"" (現れるフォークロア破壊をもたらす「黒薔薇の魔女」) 2008-07-02 While preparing for the Fortune Cup with Saiga, Yusei is reunited with Himuro and Yanagi. As they prepare to test out Yusei's Deck, they're confronted by Jack, who returns Stardust Dragon to Yusei. Later, Lua tells them about a duelist called the Black Rose Witch. When she appears before them, the Dragon's Birthmark on Yusei's arm begins to react. 15 "Duel of Fortune Cup Begins: Great Aerial Assault!! Giant Bomber Air Raid" (デュエル・オブ・フォーチューンカップ開幕 大空襲!!ジャイアントボマー・エアレ イド) 2008-07-09 The Fortune Cup has officially begun and the first duel pits Bommer against Lua, who is disguised as his sister Luca, as she did not wish to participate. Bommer's aircraft machine monsters are giving Lua's deformer monsters a hard time. Meanwhile, Akutsu, Godwin's scientist, puts his latest invention to the test: a device that detects signer activities. 16 "Witch Returns: Dragon of Destruction, "Black Rose Dragon"" (魔女再来、破滅の竜 「ブラック・ローズ・ドラゴン」) 2008-07-16 The next duel in the Fortune Cup pits Jill de Launcebeaux vs. Aki Izayoi. Jill has learned from Rex and Jeager that Aki is the Black Rose Witch. At first, his Masked Knight leveled monsters seem to give him a clear advantage, until Aki lets everyone in the stadium witness the dangers of her plant monsters, field spell card and finally, her Black Rose Dragon. 17 "Flame Revenger: Speed King - Skull Flame" (炎のリベンジャー スピードキング☆スカル・フレイム) 2008-07-23 Next up in the Fortune Cup is a riding duel between Yusei and a mysterious caped duelist called Shura, but to Yusei's and Jack's surprise, the challenger is actually Mukuro Enjo who took the real Shura's place and disguise shortly before the duel starts. Yusei must now face Mukuro's deck filled with powerful Fire monsters, an improved deck which Mukuro plan to use against Jack latter on. 18 "The Ancient Forest: Invitation to the Spirits' World" (古の森 精霊世界への誘い) 2008-07-30 The first round of the Fortune Cup is over, but Rex Godwin is holding a consolation match, which opposes Professor Frank versus the real Luca, much to Lua's disappointment. Not only Luca is reluctant to duel, but the duel itself is planned to uncover Luca's signer ability. Furthermore, Frank has a stirring speech that sends Luca into a trance-like state, disrupting her dueling capabilities. 19 "The Spirits' World Contaminated: Evil Intent, Id the Super Demonic Lord" (汚染される精霊世界 悪なる意思 超魔神イド) 2008-08-06 Luca engages in her duel with Professor Frank when she hears a mysterious voice saying: " You said...you'd protect the world of Duel Monsters spirits. " Then, the voice takes shape in the form of Id the Super Demonic Lord. Now, Luca must take all her courage and skill at hand to defeat Frank's trump card. 20 "Uncompromisable Feelings: My Mission is With My Hometown" (譲れない想い 我が使命は故郷と共に) 2008-08-13 The first day of the Fortune Cup comes to a close. The audience attention is cast to an image of Bommer, who shall face Yusei tomorrow. As Himuro says that he wonders what kind of D-Wheel Bommer uses, something comes to Lua's mind, causing him to run off. 21 "Vengeful Bomber: Trap of Sorrow, Chariot Pile" (復讐のボマー 悲しみのトラップ チャリオット・パイル) 2008-08-20 Bommer successfully summons Giant Bomber Air Raid and uses its effect to prevent Yusei to play his cards right. What Yusei doesn't know is that Bommer holds Rex responsible for the destruction of his home village. 22 "Disclosed Past: The Duel Profiler VS The Black Rose Witch" (暴かれる過去 デュエルプロファイラ-VS黒薔薇の魔女) 2008-08-27 The second round of the finals pits Aki Izayoi against Kodo Kinomiya, also known as the Duel Profiler. Kinomiya has been ordered by Rex to expose Aki as a signer, which didn't work on Aki's last duel. Furthermore, Kinomiya got his title from exposing his opponents' past to disable them. He doesn't take long to expose Aki's troublesome reputation as the Black Rose Witch, awakening painful memories to Aki. 23 "The Final Game, Heart Hidden Under the Mask" (決勝戦、仮面の奥に隠された心) 2008-09-03 Before the final rounds of the Fortune Cup commences, Yusei Fudo confronts and questions Aki Izayoi within a inner passage of the Dueling Stadium of why does she calls the Dragon's Birthmark a "wretched mark". To which angrily responds that she hates and detests the person who carries a birthmark. Furthermore while becoming angry, Aki feels that something remains hidden within her. Yusei, who is filled with various doubts, begins his Duel with Aki. 24 "Victim Sanctuary: Become the Star Enveloping Destruction! Stardust Dragon" (ヴィクテム・サンクチュアリ 破壊を包む星となれ!スターダスト・ドラゴン) 2008-09-10 The duel between Yusei and Aki continues, and Aki quickly gains the upper hand. Yusei, from his part, manages to put a good defense against Aki's plant-type monsters, but also notices that Aki takes a guiltiest pleasure at attacking him mercilessly. 25 "Fortune Cup Final! Lonely King, Jack Atlas" (フォーチュンカップ ファイナル!孤高のキング ジャック・アトラス) 2008-09-17 Yusei wins his match against Aki, but feels reluncant about it since he couldn't help her as much as he would have wished. He then rushes to Golwin's tower in order to rescue his friends, but what he finds is Jack along Rex, and he explains his rivalvy with Yusei all began. Shortly after, the final duel between Jack and Yusei takes place, and to Yusei's surprise, his friends from Satellite are safe and sound, freed from the container that served as prison in Satellite, and they all watch Yusei as he duels. 26 "Destiny of the Signers! The Future Guided by the Crimson Dragon!" (シグナーたちの運命!赤き竜が導く未来!) 2008-09-24 The Fortune Cup Finals continue as Yusei summons Stardust Dragon to battle Jack's Red Demon's Dragon. (光なき世界 ダークシンクロ 氷結のフィッツジェラルド!) 2008-10-01 After his victory over Jack in the Fortune Cup, Yusei is named the new Duel King. While Yanagi informs the gang about the Signers and the Dragon Birthmarks, Yusei is challenged by a mysterious man with a Spider shaped birthmark on his arm who is able to make the duel into a Shadow Game. Meanwhile, Carly tries to get the scoop on the new Duel King. 28 "Darkness That Engulfs All: Immortal Dark Signer" (すべてを呑み込む闇 不滅のダークシグナー) 2008-10-08 Despite the difficulties caused by the Dark Synchro Monster, Yusei manages to win his duel against the Dark Signer. However, after the duel, his opponent has no recollection of what happened and no longer has the birthmark or any Dark Monsters in his deck. It is revealed that spiders are being used to control people, one of which are heading into Jack's hospital room. 29 "A Looming Threat: Dark Signer, Ushio" (迫りくる脅威 ダークシグナー牛尾) 2008-10-15 Following her release from security, Carly attends a premiere event and encounters a model named Misty, who takes an interest in her. Later, a Dark Signer spider posesses Trudge and challenges Jack, who is trying to leave the hospital, to a duel. Unable to use his fractured right arm, Jack decides to make Carly as his arm. Meanwhile, Goodwin shows Yusei the truth. 30 "My Name is Crow! As the battle goes on, the Crimson Dragon appears and Yusei, Jack, Aki, and Luca are shown bizarre visions of the future of Neo Domino City. 27 "World Without Light: Dark Synchro, Freezing Fitzgerald!" (光なき世界 ダークシンクロ 氷結のフィッツジェラルド!) 2008-10-01 After his victory over Jack in the Fortune Cup, Yusei is named the new Duel King. He lives in Satellite, the lower half of Neo Domino City. He is respected and admired by his friends for his genius style dueling, and his cool and clever personality. His first Duel Runner was stolen by his rival Jack, along with his signature card, Stardust Dragon. Two years later, with a new Duel Runner of his own creation, Yusei sets out to reclaim his Dragon. He was chosen as a Signer by the People of the Stars, and is marked by the Crimson Dragon's Tail, which appears on his arm when he fights alongside Stardust Dragon, or encounters another Signer. [edit] Jack AtlasMain article: Jack AtlasJack Atlas (ジャック・アトラス, Jakku Atorasu?, 18 years old): Jack is known as the "Absolute King of the Riding Duel", and was once Yusei's best friend, but they became bitter rivals after Jack stole Yusei's Stardust Dragon and Duel Runner and left for Neo Domino City. Now, as a former resident of Satellite, he must hide his past from the rest of society. He is very arrogant and overconfident, but still has a strong conscience. His signature card is also a Synchro monster, Red Dragon Archfiend (Red Daemon's Dragon in the Japanese version). He plays a "Swarm" Deck, focusing on quickly Tuning weaker monsters together to summon his Dragon. Jack is one of the five Signers, the chosen ones of the People of the Stars, and carries the Crimson Dragon's Wings. [edit] AkizaMain article: AkizaAkiza (18 years old): Called Aki Izayoi (十六夜 アキ, Izayoi Aki?) in the Japanese version. Akiza is a cold and ruthless girl with the power to bring the monsters and magic of Duel Monsters to life, an ability that can only be used through anguish and sadness. Because of this, she chooses to distance herself from people, believing her power to be caused by the Dragon birthmark she possesses. She is the third Signer, who plays a deck based around Plant-Type Monsters and holds the "Black Rose Dragon". Because of this, and her abilities, she is called the "Black Rose Witch". She often hides her appearance with a tattered cloak and covers her face with a mask. It was confirmed during the Fortune Cup that her birthmark is one of the dragon's claws. [edit] LukaMain article: Luka (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's)Luka (11 years old[1]): Called Lua[2] (龍亞, Rua?) in the Japanese version. Luka is the lively and blundering twin brother of Luna. He plays a "Morphtronic" deck ("Deformer" in Japanese, also written as "D-Former"), with monsters based on Transformers that have different abilities in attack mode and defense mode. He idolizes Jack, and even owns figurines of him, his Duel Runner, and his Dragon. He duels in the Fortune Cup tournament in place of his sister. He has some knowledge of the dragon birthmarks, since his sister has one, and was shocked to discover that Yusei has one too. [edit] LunaMain article: Luna (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's)Luna (11 years old[1]): Called Luca[2] (龍可, Ruka?) in the Japanese version. Luna is the calm and collected twin sister of Luka. She plays a "Fairy/Spirit" deck, and gained the ability to speak with Duel Monster spirits, after an incident that occurred eight years ago. Luna fell into a coma at the age of three, but recovered after a month, thanks to Luka who was by her side the whole time calling her name. After she awoke, she claimed to have visited the Duel Monster spirit world in her dreams, where she met the spirit of Ancient Fairy Dragon, who charged her with the duty of keeping the spirit world safe. Luna was invited to enter the Fortune Cup, however she had no interest in participating. Luka thought of the idea to enter in her place. She dislikes dueling, as speaking to monster spirits tires her. She is also one of the five Signers. Her birthmark is one of the Crimson Dragon's Claws and her dragon is revealed to be Ancient Fairy Dragon, although its card is not currently in her possession. [edit] Rex GoodwinMain article: Rex GoodwinRex Goodwin[3]: Called Rex Godwin (レクス・ゴドウィン, Rekusu Godowin?) in the Japanese version. Rex is the main antagonist, and leader of the "Yliasters", the group of Star Guardians who were said to bring peace to the world. Goodwin is the chief of public maintenance for Neo Domino City. With his elitism, he transformed the city into a hierarchical society. He shows interest in the dragon-shaped birthmarks that both Yūsei and Jack have, and is the person who explains their significance to Jack. It is seen that he can be aggressive if necessary, but usually keeps a calm demeanor. [4] Has either a cybernetic left hand or arm.[5] He is in possession of a severed arm with a dragon mark, making it possible that he is the 5th signer. [edit] New Domino Administration and Security [edit] LazarCalled Jeager (イェーガー, Iēga?) in the Japanese version, Lazar is Goodwin's assistant and Director of the Neo Domino Security Division. He is voiced by Tetsuya Yanagihara in the Japanese version. In the Japanese version, he also has an obsession with "momentum" and enjoys saying the word often. He is voiced by Kouichirou Yuzawa in the Japanese version. [edit] MinaCalled Mikage Sagiri (狭霧 深影, Sagiri Mikage?) in the Japanese version, Mina is Jack's secretary. She is often very concerned over Jack and tries her best to be useful despite the fact that he is always cold towards her. She is voiced by Aiko Souhashi in the Japanese version. [edit] TakasuTakasu (鷹栖, Takasu?) is the warden of the Detention Center that Yusei is being held at after his and Jack's duel in the Stadium. Takasu uses his power as Warden to mistreat and abuse the detainees. After Yusei challenged and defeated Takasu to win the freedom of all detainees after Takasu locked down the entire facility, Rex Goodwin, who watched the duel from above, fires Takasu. Takasu uses a "Chain Deck", focusing on his "Chain" monsters, as well as deck destruction and effect-damage tactics. His Ace Monster is the Synchro Monster "Chain Dragon". He is voiced by Kouji Ishii in the Japanese version. [edit] TrudgeCalled Tetsu Ushio (牛尾 哲, Ushio Tetsu?) in the Japanese version. Trudge is a Security officer who observes the residents of Satellite and duels using a specially-designed "Pursuit" deck, with Goyo Guardian as its main Synchro of choice. He has a violent character but also great pride as a duelist and for this Yusei respects him. After losing to Yusei, he vows to defeat and arrest him, no matter how long it takes. His character seems to be based on Ushio, to whom Yugi Muto challenged his first Shadow Game.[4] In the dubbed version, Trudge has a rivalry with Yusei going for some time now. The pilot dub shown at Comic-Con referred to him by his Japanese name, Ushio, rather than Trudge. After the first confrontation between Yusei and the Dark Signers, Trudge falls under their control, becoming a Dark Signer himself, and challenges Jack to a duel while the latter is still recovering from his Fortune Cup finals match against Yusei. Just like the other brainwashed Dark Signers, Trudge gets back to normal after being defeated by Jack. He is voiced by Kouji Ochiai in the Japanese version and Dan Green in the English version. [edit] HansonTrudge's nervous lieutenant, Hanson has no name in the Japanese version. [edit] Satellite From left to right: Tank, Nerve, Blitz and Rally.[edit] BlitzCalled Nerve (ナーヴ, Nāvu?) in the original. Yusei's friend and inhabitant of Satellite. Has a strong sense of justice. He is voiced by Mika Itou in the Japanese version and Caroline Lawson in the English version. [edit] UryūAn insect duelist and former Domino resident who harasses Tank, Uryū (瓜生, Uryū?) later comes with his two henchmen to try to take Yusei's Duel Runner by force. Yusei duels him and wins, but they part on friendly terms, with Uryū promising to win next time they duel. He is voiced by Toshiyuki Kusuda in the Japanese version and Anthony Salerno in the English version. [edit] Allies [edit] Jin HimuroJin Himuro (氷室 仁, Himuro Jin?) is a former Turbo Duel champion. At the detention center, he starts as a ruthless bully, but becomes an ally of Yusei, after losing to him in a duel. During his time at the cell, he was beaten by Takasu in an attempt to anger Yusei. He is later free thanks to Saiga and helps Yusei during the Fortune Cup. After becoming Yusei's ally, he is given information about the Signer. He plays an "Ushi Oni Beatdown" deck. His Ace Monster is 'Great Ushi Oni'. He is voiced by Taiten Kusunoki in the Japanese version. [edit] Tenzen YanagiAn eccentric old man and former traveler, Tenzen Yanagi (矢薙 典膳, Yanagi Tenzen?) befriends Yusei after being detained in the Neo Domino City Detention Center. He knows several things about the Signers and the Five Dragons. He duels Himuro and was utterly defeated. After having his cards called trash, Yusei uses his deck to duel Himuro and wins. When Yusei was transfered to another cell, Yanagi was beaten by Takasu to make Yusei angry. He is free thanks to Saiga and continues to root for Yusei during the Fortune Cup. He plays a "Hidden Treasure" deck, based on legendary treasures from all over the world, which he takes great pride in, despite the fact the majority of the cards cause self-inflicted damage. He is voiced by Bunmei Tobayama in the Japanese version. [edit] Kōhei AoyamaOne of Yusei's cell mates at the detention center, Kōhei Aoyama (青山 光平, Aoyama Kōhei?) plans to escape. He gives up his chance in order to help Yusei win his duel against Takasu. He is voiced by Shun Takagi in the Japanese version. [edit] SaigaAn old friend of Himuro, Saiga (雑賀, Saiga?) was once a top Turbo Duel Champion, until his partner Yūji (ユージ, Yūji?) was injured in an accident. Yūji sends Saiga the burned Machiner's Sniper card, which was a symbol of their friendship, and Saiga thinks that Yūji will never forgive him. Yusei helps him regain his faith in his friends. He helps Yusei prepare his Duel Runner for the Fortune Cup. He later sneaks into the Satelite to help Yusei's friend. He is voiced by Hidenobu Kiuchi in the Japanese version. [edit] Fortune Cup duelists [edit] Hunter PaceCalled Mukuro Enjō (炎城 ムクロ, Enjō Mukuro?) in the Japanese version. A challenger defeated by Jack in the first and eighth episodes. He returns later to participate in the Fortune Cup by forcibly replacing the cloaked duelist known as "The Reborn Reaper" Shira, and lost to Yusei. Plays a Speed-based deck exclusively for Turbo Duels, focusing on gaining Speed Counters as quickly as possible, as well as effect damage. His Ace Monster is "Speed King - Skull Flame". He is voiced by Naoki Yanagi in the Japanese version. [edit] BommerBommer (ボマー, Bomā?) is a physically well-built Duelist first met in the Fortune Cup tournament, battling first against Luka (dressed as Luna), then again in a Turbo Duel against Yusei. He apparently originates from arid Central America, which Goodwin used Bommer's village as the site of an "experiment" to summon the Crimson Dragon, that completely destroyed the village seen in a flashback. Enraged at not being able to help his younger brother and sister, Bommer decides to take revenge on Goodwin for his village's destruction. Bommer uses his Duel Runner to rocket toward the box room, intending to kill Goodwin, Jeager, and Jack. Yusei attempts to stop him, but one of the spikes on Bommer's Duel Runner flies off and crashes into the box. Goodwin catches it with his prosthetic hand. Bommer is arrested by Security after his assault on Goodwin. His deck is fairly solid, focusing on his three "Reactor" monsters, who can inflict 800 damage the first time their opponent Summons a monster, or activates a Spell or Trap card each turn. His Ace Monsters are his "Giant Bomber Air Raid", which is a combination of his three Reactor monsters using the Trap card "Delta Reactor", and his Synchro Monster "Dark Dive Bomber". He is voiced by Keiji Hirai in the Japanese version. [edit] Jill de LauncebeauxA duelist in the Fortune Cup tournament, Jill de Launcebeaux (ジル・ド・ランスボウ, Jiru do Ransubou?) claims to be a descendant of the "knights of old", and dresses as such. He is first to challenge Akiza, using his "Masked Knight"-series "LV" monsters. He barely survived the final blow from Akiza's "Black Rose Dragon", which is proven when he was still in contention for the Consolation Match. He is voiced by Yōji Ueda in the Japanese version. [edit] Professor FrankA creepy duelist, and admitted assassin, from China that battles Luna in a special "Consolation Duel" for the losers of the first round of the Fortune Cup tournament. He seems nice and pleasant at first, but is able to induce Luna in a trance that transports her mind to the World of Duel Monster Spirits, and he soon follows after to contaminate the world with his evil intentions, revealing himself as not being completely sane. His main monster is "Id, the Super Demonic Lord". He is voiced by Toshihiko Seki in the Japanese version. [edit] Kodo KinomiyaCalled the "Duel Profiler", Kodo Kinomiya (来宮 虎堂, Kinomiya Kodō?) is a participant in the Fortune Cup. His opponent in the first round, Professor Frank, threw his match so he could play Luna in the Consolation Game. Kodo's opponent in the semifinals was Akiza, whose past he studied so that he could throw her off by reminding her of how her psychic abilities hurt others. Nevertheless, she went on to defeat and severely damage her opponent with her powers. He is voiced by Tarusuke Shingaki in the Japanese version. [edit] Other characters [edit] Tenpei HayanoA young duelist who is good friends with Luka, Tenpei Hayano (早野 天兵, Hayano Tenpei?) built a dueling deck specifically designed to defeat the powerful duelist known as "Black Rose Witch", who he and Luka had been planning to challenge for some time. When he first meets Yusei, he was afraid of him due to his criminal mark, but began to admire him once Luka told him he had customized his and Luna's Duel Disks to fit them and was strong enough to enter the Fortune Cup. In the Japanese version, he is voiced by Kokoro Kikuchi. [edit] MCThe MC (master of ceremonies) for the Turbo Duels. His hair is maintained as a very large pompadour. In the original he is voiced by Bernard Ackah. [edit] DivineA mysterious man who seems to know about Akiza's past. He watches over Akiza's Duels in the Fortune Cup and encourages her to be proud of her powers although later dialogue implies that he simply sees her as a expedient. Like Akiza, he has psychic powers. He is a member of a mysterious group of psychic duelists known as the Arcadia Movement that seems to oppose Yliaster and conjectures that Yliaster plans to use the Crimson Dragon for world domination. In the Japanese version he is voiced by Masaya Matsukaze. [edit] Carly NagisaCarly Nagisa (カーリー渚, Kārī Nagisa?) is a reporter who tends to get pushed around by others as she attempts to obtain a big scoop and is generally called "Stutter Stammer Carly" due to her nervousness. She uses a Fortune Telling Deck which she uses to tell her fortune and give her goals for the day. Using a Duel Disk radar in her car, which she apparently lives in, Carly was able to locate Yusei Fudo and the Dark Signer, when they dueled. She is currently wondering about the connection between Yusei's birthmark and the Crimson Dragon. In the Japanese version, she is voiced by Li Mei Chan. [edit] AngelaAngela (アンジェラ, Anjera?) is a rival reporter who constantly gets in Carly's way and shows little respect for others, especially Carly. In the Japanese version, she is voiced by Chieko Higuchi. [edit] CrowCrow (クロウ, Kurou?) is one of Yusei's friends and a thief. Crow's motives for thieving are primarily for helping people in need, and for his friends. He breaks into Security and steals a deck confiscated by Neo Domino City's police department. While escaping on his Duel Runner, he is caught and forced into a Turbo Duel with his freedom on the line. He uses a deck with a new type of monster: Black-Feather. [edit] MistyMisty (ミスティ, Misuti?) is a famous model who takes interest in Carly. She can read someone based on facial appearence. In the Japanese version, she is voiced by Junko Minagawa.
