Always wanted to make an animation, but don't know how? This guide will help you through the process of making your first animation. Don't be put off on how difficult it seems based on what is said here, its just me trying to explain every single thing, animations are most effective short.

For this guide (at this stage) information shall be given on using the following for the purpose of animations:

- Windows Movie Maker

- DVDVideoSoft Video to JPG converter

- Fast Stone Photo Resizers

- Jasc Animation Shop (Coming soon)

- UnFreez

Frames

Frames are what makes up any animated image, each with very subtle changes to the previous frames. There are a number of way of getting these frames for an animation.

Windows Movie Maker - Possesses a screenshot taking button in it its main interface -> m7dq1u.jpg (I'm not familiar with the latest) and thanks to its next frame/next buttons you can take screenshots at regular intervals. Simply just take screenshot every interval for the length of your animation. Leave plenty of time for this stage as it can take a while.

DVDVideoSoft Video to JPG converter - As its name suggests this program takes a Video and puts out JPG files. This program in itself is fairly self explanatory, but I will explain it for everyone. In imput file browse and locate the file you want to use, now with the simple next frame buttons and the 28i0tgl.jpg buttons make it so only the part of the file you want is selected at exactly the beginning and end of the clip you want to animate, like so here. Under save set the setting to Every Frame, and the click save. Your frames will be outputted under My Computer - Temp.

Simple now you have your frames to make your animation.

Converting/Resizing Frames

This stage depends on what program you are using, Jasc animation shop will automatically output at the size you want, but other options may not.

If you've use Windows Movie Maker, resizing the frames will be the only work you need to do here, unless you plan on keeping it the size you already have or plan to get for example Photobucket to resize as you load, either way the animation is best kept small for quick loading.

FastStone Photo Resizer - Both converts and resizes frames without an annoying watermark, giving you more control. This program is another easy to get the hang of program. In source simply locate where you've saved the frames and then click add all (if it doesn't first time you will need to rename your files because the names are too long). Make sure Output format is GIF, create a folder for the animation frames to go in, and in the use Advanced Option options button simple mess around with the settings as you please and press start. Wait and then you have your frames all ready for the last stage. =D

Making The Animation

Congratulations you're not far off making your animation. This stage is simply the putting all the frames together stage (If you used DVDVideoSoft Video to JPG you need to delete 50% of the frames you've made with it, to get the speed right)

Jasc Animation Shop (coming soon)

UnFreez - This is a free and ultra simple program. Simply drag all your frames in order into it and click save. (Make sure Frame Delay is set at 0 and it loops). Don't worry if your animation 'sticks' when you play it back, there's simply 'dead' frames, frames that UnFreez had issues processing, just figure out which one it is from the selected ones you added, delete on UnFreez and resave it, more often than not its either the frame it froze on or the frame after, keep going until it loops and you're all done.

There you have it your first animation, don't worry that process seems hard, but after a while its second nature.

Wow, very impressive. Detailed well too. I really like it. Too bad thought none is compatible for a mac. I like the examples you set up at the start. I think you worked hard on this tutorial ^_^. + Reputation. I'll find a way to get one of those programs running on my mac. [hope it works]
