Well; this new rule system is Very Sudden. Unforturnly this is going to spark a massive Revolt. I think the only Solution is to Entrirly spit Basic and Advanced Roleplays for good. They simply cannot exist without this Kind of Trouble.

My Sugestion; Split the Roleplay Sections into two. One for basic roleplaying but has a Inforsed Letter count so one sentance posts can be cut down or stoped. Plus the Points gained from this fourm can he Halved.

For the Advanced roleplay fourm; nothing is Limited and is like the other sections execpt for a strict inforsement of the Advanced clause.

The Advanced Clause has existed for so long I'm not sure when it was first made; I vaguely recall somewhen around March this year' date=' but I might be wrong.

We've already done the whole "massive revolt" back in August, and it resulted in an improvement with the Tag System. Now, we're ready to make the final step to becoming a better roleplaying community.

The same point I pressed last time: The Advanced Clause is actually named incorrectly. This is only "Advanced" by YCM standards, not by anything acceptable. I only called it that because we are on YCM, and it offered some sort of higher ground for Roleplayers. [b']What we ask is not difficult.[/b]

I think a major problem with it is how people who are good rp'ers will just generally lose interest having to take all that time to both post a post or to wait for a response from each member' date=' generally causing frustration.

[/quote']

If you're a good roleplayer, you won't lose interest. If you do lose interest, it's more likely that the plot itself is bad rather than the quality of the grammar being too much of a hassle.

I do not feel that is the case. There are many RP's whose plots where well developed, but died over time due to simply the lack of patience and fading interest, even among good rp'ers.

It also makes it hard for people who haven't been present for a while' date=' making them have to read through paragraph's of roleplay to eeven continue or pm someone, the later not giving them a completely full grasp on the situation.

[/quote']

This is a lot like skipping to the last chapter of a book just because you can't be bothered to read the entire thing. If you can't access a RP for a while, take 10-15 minutes and read through everything you've missed on. That's what I'd do.

The problem is, rp's aren't books. Rp's (good ones anyway) consist of an active living environment, with multiple members constantly posting. Both with rapid short posts or long drawn out ones, people do get left behind. I know this from my own personal experiance. Many good rp'ers wil get lost and generally frustrated with this.

In shorter words' date=' most people aren't patient enough to go through all the struggle and hassles that come with a mandatory system, and the rp'er pool wil drasticly drop.

[/quote']

Patience is key. If you can't be patient, then you're not fit for proper Roleplaying.

Patience if often a problem associated with time. Some people can't be on the computer 24/7, and this leads to problems in timing, espically when considering that there are RP'ers around the world. Just as a side note, this would be where Horologia's chat box idea would help, and possably solve this problem while still keeping the advanced ruling.

However' date=' I've come up with some Suggestions for combating this. the first is one that no one seems to make thought of: Making a middle road. Most issues and sides either have one choice, or the other and that leave a vast group unfairly left out. Might I suggest a Intermediate level of rp'ing, that incorperates both the ideals of a meaningful post with that of size freedom?

[/quote']

Stop being self-contradictory. The Advanced Clause is not violating the size freedom, you can write as long replies as you want and none will stop you. The minimum requirement, four sentences to a paragraph, can be fulfilled so easily that it shouldn't be a problem, at all.

I may be mistaken, but when I read the rules for advanced clause to me it was saying that an acceptable post would have to be 2-3 paragraphs. If I was wrong then I apologise.

It would prove a much more effeciant system' date=' seeing as people could both rp quickly if they must, and others can still create a good picture and depth in the rp. It's important to note that Rp's, though in a sub-catagory, ARE NOT supposed to be full on fan-fiction novels. That being said their also not supposed to be spam either.

[/quote']

There's no such thing as "I must roleplay quickly." Patience is key, especially in Play-by-Post RPs such as this forum. What you apparently define as "fast" roleplaying, meaning posts that would violate the Advanced Clause, is... well, spam.

This I must strongly disagree with. there are way's such as with simple dialogue and action that you can further the plot with out being spam. This is done to avoid putting repeated useless information, which isn't required to be read. Repetitiveness is one of the big problems with the Advanced clause. Sometimes the scenes already been developed enough where all thats needed is dialogue, any other info would be repeting what had already been said over and over again. This is where the Advanced clause could use a tiny bit of leniancy(sp).

On another cite I once was a part of' date=' they had a system were their "Basic" RP's, listen as "just for fun" RP's, were set up so as not to award points or increase post count. Perhaps that could be put into place here?

[/quote']

Unfortunately, not even myself as a Super Moderator have the right to create new Forums or disable post count in any forum. That is administrator matters, and I don't see the need anyhow.

I understand how this is not your department. I just thought it would be a way to bring more fun back to the rp section. It seems like with either basic or advanced, it's always a choice between one or the other leaving many left out. tings never have only 2 choices, even i the rest are unable to be seen.

In Conclusion' date=' These Ideas I give are only suggestions. I'm not trying to persuade you to use them, but merely think of them. They may be long and complex, but they combine the best of both systems put into place and will stop both disaster scenerios: Either Disgraceful Rp'ing or A General Decline of Interest. I hope that before forcing a large populace of the RP'ing community to leave, you look over all possible methods of correction. Again, I do not mean to criticze your rules, merely add on to or improve upon them using my own past experiance. If you have taken the time to fully read down to here, I thank you for your interest and time. Rant Over.

[/quote']

If this causes any members to leave, it simply means that they didn't live up to YCM's new roleplaying standards and therefore are not needed in the section anyhow.

And with this statement brings me to why I'm replying in the first place. I don't mean to be rude, but you attitude when dealing with my suggestions seems a little condescending and rather un co-operative. It seems you care more about reputation then people (which I certainly is hope is not the case). While you did bring valid points, you did so in a almost upstart mannor, considering others to be inferior to your rp'ing standard. This isn't a job, it's a hobby. people come here for fun, not rules regulations and disaproval. I don't want our rp section to be wasted space, but I also want as many people to be happy as possible.

To make this easier for the readers, I'll reply in a new post.

1&3. As I said, patience is key. You can't be expected to be online 24/7, and you can't expect your fellow roleplayers to be on 24/7 either. In my opinion, roleplays are meant to be epic stories, and those take time to accomplish. Both a hastily thrown-together plot and a well-documented stands and falls with the roleplayers themselves: If there is no patience, no desire to wait for your fellows around the world to do their moves, then a roleplayer might drop out.

2. Books also consist of multiple characters conveying expressions and opinions, and are also in the end manipulated by more people than the author themselves. The editor, the friends and family that come with hints, all change the outcome in their own way. A novel is only different from a roleplay in that many people have a larger influence on the story's progression - ultimately, everything is decided by the novel's / thread's author.

4. More paragraphs are only recommended. Four sentences is the absolute minimum.

5. The simplest way to lengthen your post is description and.

[spoiler=Example.]

Pre-Lengthening:

He clutched his hand. "I will get back at you for this, Mordecai!" The young man turned around and walked away.

Post-Lengthening:

He clenched his hand in a tight fist, his fingers shaking with rage. In a single moment, and with a single word, the witch had laid the tower to ruins. "I will get back at you for this, Mordecai!" His voice echoed around the nearby hills as he turned away from the smoldering ruins, the force of a thousand rivers in each step.

Essentially the same thing, but the second post provides us with more details about what has happened. A bit repetitiveness is needed, but only for the next poster to elaborate on. If everyone goes on without telling where they are and what they're doing, essentially that will be forgotten and the plot can be endangered.

6. To your reply, I simply state this: Patience is key, and it requires effort to use.

As a few closing words, let me say this. Imagine that there was a reversed Advanced Clause, a Simple Clause, saying that all posts must have bad grammar and have less than four sentences. Would roleplaying be better or worse?

Worse, but i still think patience while good can also lead to frustration. In reality people, not just RP'ers, aren't all experts on Patience, while many are still very cretive. Also, I don't like the Idea's of rp's as books. I don't come to this forum to write stories (seeing as how I already do that in reality) as much as to almost live or act them. Books while influenced by outside sources are controled by one person completely, there are no surprizes to the author. RP's are more like a mix between Play's and Novels. A little short and a little long. Compromise is what I'm saying. Instead of banning something, limit it. Or create a new catagory for it. There are many other Options to take then taking something out completely. While advanced rp's aren't hard and are more vivid and creative then most basic, not all basic's are bad as well. I want to be able to both express myself creatively and have a fun time.

That tag system was my idea... T_T

I concieved that tag system to keep the peace between totally different peoples: The Conservative Advanced RPers and the Liberal Basic RPers. We once had the Advanced Clause enforced as mandatory, as Umbra once did. That almost lead to a full out 'civil' war between the Advanced and Basic. That would have had our forum closed and have a lot of :(.

I can understand why you want to get rid of Basic RPs. They now make up most of our RP threads on the forum. I'll admit, many are of low quality and of undeveloped plot and I often forgo them in favour of Advanced RPs, which I am an adamant supporter. There are also many idiots who don't want to read the rules and make tagless RPs, which are locked.

Yet, this black cloud had a large silver lining. Preventing a flame war. Restarting the mandatory Advanced Clause will open up old wounds which have just recently healed. It will sow the seeds of discord.

We must keep order on our forums. The Tag system has served us well in keeping order. It's abolishment will result in another Cold War. We must prevent this at all costs!

How exactly can a member fight a moderator.

The tag system is good, but it also allows members to see the word "basic" and post really bad posts. Advanced is used about a quarter of the time and it should be used more then half.

If the moderators tried any system that would equalize the number of "basic" and "advanced" RPs, members would get angry. They could separate the "advanced" and "basic" into different sub-forums, but the advanced one would still die.

The only other option I see besides mandatory advanced clause is a midway point. This would include no OoC only posts, but you could make small posts for speech.

I warned you. The mods on YCM are not necessarily dictators, they simply keep the forum clean. If you can't handle being unable to advertise your favourite site, just leave yourself like a civilized being insteand of trying to bring as many members with you...

Back on topic, the tag system is essential in keeping civil order on the RP forum. Every member who had joined at least 3 months earlier remembers the RP forum Cold War. Umbra has already tried making the Advanced Clause mandatory for a few months. You must remeber how divided the forum was. It was almost 50/50. In this situation, a comprimise is absolutely necessary in keeping the peace. If we do not compromise, we will lose half the membership of the RP forum. Then, there will not be enough people to support RPs of any kind. WE MUST KEEP BOTH SIDES HAPPY!

Thank you.... Why are you guys still trying to do something that failed sometime ago... Let us just wright the way we want to wright. My god do you want to make this place better or worse? AC rules don't make things better. Its makes people more frustrated, we wright the way we want to wright. Do not try to push this on us again, please I beg of you. Don't be stupid and try to make this a better place because at this rate you can't. This is not a RP site is a Yugioh Card Making Site for god shacks. I mean Coloholics Anonymous is a advance Role Playing Site and it dose not have as many demanding rules that your adding. Just leave things as they are.

But no you can't it seems. If your blind or something in witch I doubt there are more active Basic Rps then there are Advance Rps. Why do you mods get an Ego check and leave us alone.

They don't have egos. They actually keep this place at it's best.

Here's the way I see it:

If we allow ANY BASIC AT ALL, things will stay the same and the RP quality will stay status quo. Which is what I don't want.

If we force the AC on them, then they won't pick it up. Why? Because your pushing it on them too fast. It's too sudden and all at once. Improvement needs to be taken in baby steps. One at a time. If it's forced on them, then everyone protests, and if it stays through the protesting then the RP Section will fail and everyone's unhappy. I don't wan this to happen either.

SO, here's what I suggest.

We have the Tag System, but instead of basic, we make it a watered down AC. Some more tolerable rules to the other RPers.

HOWEVER, after a few weeks (or maybe less) we add a rule or two, and bump it up a little. By that time, they should be able to have improved enough to take a little more rules. Then, after a while, we keep adding rules, allowing people to improve at a steady, reasonable pace.

...I wasn't going to comment, but...

wut?

I mean, at any point at any time, you could click to the forum and see maybe 2, possibly 3 Advance rps per page, which is... not a lot, to say the least.

In any case, I feel there's no simple solution to this. One one hand, we DO need to increase the quality of writing here, but on the other, we don't want to piss off anyone and everyone. Actually, I've been skimming the Fanfic section here, and I'm actually kinda impressed with how their quality control works. They have featured best fanfics, an incentive for doing good, the "carrot" so to speak... and they also have an entire crowd of semi-trolls armed with Sarcasm and MST3000 rip-offs in order to discourage bad writing, the "stick".

Obviously, that can't really work in the same way here with the way RPs work, but...

But thats not the point. Its about Freedom and Fun. Look when I wright and RP I don't want to have the constant feeling of the bannhammer over my head, just because I forgot one damn sentience. And trust me I all most got banned because of forgetting a single sentience. Its not the fact that its the rules it self it the fact that there is pressure when there was none. People don't like Pressure thats why we go online to avoid pressure and relax, not work.

Just keep it the way it is. Its working fine and it worked fine before the Advance Rules where even born. But hay if you don't like how I post then don't RP with me or better yet maybe talk with me and see my point of view on things in the RP. Because sheet this is staring to get annoying we had a hole lintier protest because of this new Advance rules.

As I have said before and let me say it again. Let us post the way we want to post.
