Montreal Regional report august 31st last of the format 1st place finish w00t^^

Recommended Posts

So yeah I'm not sure if it's the right place but if it's not plz move it where it should be. I personally think we should have a section where stuff related to tournaments are posted.

Now with the story...

I wake up at 8:30 pack my stuff and go pick up XandertheGreat and Yan (this one isn't on YCM yet). So we drive there, write our deck list and the tournament starts.

Round 1 vs carlos

game 1

I open up strong in fact almost perfect. Stratos search malicious, destiny draw and I pass. I was not feeling good since I didn't had any protection but I had a cyber valley in hand and was in hope of a strong 3rd turn. Lucky was I vs the FAILPILE, he summons silent swordsman lv3 activates swords of revealing light and ends his turn. *Here comes the beating* I summon my cyber valley bring out my other mali and draw two. Activates a freshly drawn allure who gets me god and follow up with destiny draw throwing disk commander just to bring it back with monster reborn. Another allure this time removing DMoC RotA a dark grepher set up for DAD and DDR the DMoC. flawless victory

game 2

he starts set a monster and pass. i rota stratos and ram into a giant rat who gets him an exiled force. i set a bluff (storm) and end. he goes silent swodsman lv 3 again this time with level up and now i realised that i might lose this game having 3 dead spells (ddr, storm and another rota). he sac Xforce to make a direct atk with lv5. i needed an out and fast. i top allure so i activate rota to get grepher and i got a turn similar to what happened last game. sorry silent swordsman guy.

Round 2 vs nassim (DAD)

game 1

this one was long we weren't drawing any dragon finally i managed to place a return backed up with 2 solemns for game (i ended with 162 lp after a brain control LOL)

game 2

i start with a pro move he open up with armageddon knight and throws a dasher in his grave then sets 2. i destiny draw (fear monger i think) then i summon strike ninja he activates bottomless trap hole but i chain dd crow on his dasher and save my ninja. after a turn or 2 i d draw again this time throwing mali he crows right away but i had just drawn the other one and follow with allure removing the 2nd malicious. i finally get a DAD and clear his field. i set solemn then he draws rota and plays it (with 2 cards in hand this one is tough i haven't seen premature burial and he still has 2 d draw and an allure i could tell with his grave) i let him search and solemn the stratos he searched luckily his 2 last cards were a armageddon knight and a trap i could destroy with dad.

Round 3 vs marc carisse (gladiators)

game 1

he solemns early and we trade cards for a lot of 1 for 1. i then manage to place a fear monger on the field with disk in the grave while he has 2 backrow and no cards in hand. i poked 3 turns bringing him down to 1000 and he wasn't drawing a monster (well not quite you'll see why). then i attack for game and he's like i still have 4000 lp. he forgot to write that he lost half his lp for the solemn if not he would have set a crow or a tiger.

game 2

gyzarus into herk backed with royal oppression (yeah i know WTF) and a solemn. GG

game 3

i solemn twice in like 2 turns and end up low on lp (wich is bad since you can't really play a defensive game vs glads). lucky for me though the 2nd solemn was to let a crush card go through for +2 leaving him with no defense and nothing to combo with his test tiger. i try to atk for game but he has mirror force. i then have to go through 3 stressful turn trying to finish him with a sangan killing his test tiger and his dd crow to finally be able to make a direct attack.

Round 4 vs a white guy with an asian name i can't remember (glads again)

game 1

he has a gimmick and unfortunately for me an annoying one. he announces his move and makes large gesture always saying that he understands why i do my moves and complains everytime i draw (and we all know it happens all the time when you play DAD). anyway i solemn twice but when i try to go for game he has that damn reaper and i lose.

game 2

i got total control over him he can't manage to keep a monster on the field and take a quick victory

game 3

i have an almost perfect hand. storm, grepher, dad and solemn i win yay.

Round 5 vs dominic lacaille (see metagame in canada's lcq for him) (corn monarch)

game 1

this deck is too slow if you want my 2 cents i snipe his oppression and return cyber valley and follow up with dad.

game 2

i sided in 1 mst and 2 dust.

let's say disk was summoned a couple of time in the same turn as i MSTed is oppression right when he chained it on my monster reborn then i got DMoC and reborn again then DAD. GG

Round 6 vs justin aiello (corn again)

game 1

that game was so fast 2 DAD FTW.

game 2

i went through half my deck without getting anything big then he started with reckless greed and mask of darkness. i had to solemn 1 of his monarch then Prime finished me.

game 3

he bottomless my grepher and solemns the wrong card (i readed it like a pro) then i just had to play phantom of chaos to copy the solemned dad and empty my grave for the second one

TOP 8

quarter finals vs james neuman (gladiators)

game 1

i drew so many cards my turn must have taken like 10 minutes until i got storm and went for game. DDR DMoC FTW

game 2

crush card owns. he had an all monster hand that one was as quick as the other one LOL.

semifinals vs johansen pastillo (lightsworns)

game 1

everybody will hate me for saying this but i will, lightsworns sucks they are really bad. i don't care what build your playing, the only way you can with with this is by being lucky milling your wulf and drawing your JD. It's way to much inconsistant to be top tier at least in the past format maybe charge of the light brigade will fix some of the problem the deck has. Anyway that's how the fisrt game ended, he summons a celestia and attacks my snipe hunter i have 3 darks i go dad and a freshly drawn reborn to take his celestia for the win (he had nothing left in his hand BTW).

game 2

he starts by summoning garoth. i brain control and attack with it then summon a cyber valley to draw 2. he sets a monster. i top rota then i get a grepher for dad and normal summon something else with a sp summoned malicious for game.

Finals vs justin aiello (again)

game 1

he sets a monster with a backrow. i have a dangerous hand, if his backrow is good i lose so i decide to go all out because i don't have anything to play safe. i play grepher to get dad on the field clear his monster with priority and then kill his face down mirror force. i set solemn to ensure victory. thank god that wasnt BTH solemn or CCV.

game 2

he scooped because he set bottomless trap hole instead of royal oppression (he was playing cautious because he didn't had a solemn in case i got storm) and i sp summoned a crap load of monsters and he was sure he couldn't come back.

So yeah i went 9-0 DAD can still own gladiators. it's just a myth that glads are better than DAD it's just easier to build and to play. I got 16 packs where i got a chariot and a buch of crappy stuff with a montage dragon playmat i traded everything away for the deck i will be playing next format. I got my invite for the 2009 canadian nats.

wait you were there !?! what were you playing and what happened? (do i know you...)

Have fun changing your deck and seeing if you can still win xP

don't worry i always play my build of a top tier deck

That deck cost around $800 to build?

Nice win.

DAD 120$

CCV 250$

winning...

...priceless

unfortunately i don't own a gold sarcophagus and i don't know anybody who can lend it to me. it would have been in the deck :p

for the records it's not hard to get a deck like this the only problematic card is CCV.

What are you going to run now?!

No' date=' I think I will walk, it's about 35°C outside. I don't want to kill myself.

wow you were pretty lucky, your deck and side themselves aren't anything special, and strike ninja over promethius, and only 1 Grepher.

and judging by your opponents a few of them were failpiles, oppression in glads, corn arches in the finals.

anyway congratz man

strike ninja >>> prometheus

1 grepher is enough specially with 2 rota

Luck is part of the game but the deck draws so much that you rarely get stuck. I didn't get sangan/crush every game and I did mention that where I took risk it was either calculated or I didn't had any other options.

I know the deck isn't revolutionnary but I play what's been proved good.

The deck was inspired of Cesar Gonzales who did amizing results with his build. Every card I side has a purpose that day I didn't had to use all of them but if I would have faced zombies, pachy gadgets, macro, little city... I was prepared, because nothing is worst than losing to a rogue deck in the first round (well maybe losing to FAILPILE). Also some of the cards I side are ideas i took from Zaki Said (cyber dragons and night assailant i use instead of ryko).

Only the first round was vs FAILPILE and it's very likely to face a weaker player in the first round. Oppression was obv in the side deck of the gbeast deck and it's actually pretty good in mirror match even though it's quite risky. Plus oppression+herk is deadly no matter what you're playing and he couldn't play chariot that day so the fact he chose to play oppression is understandable.

Top 8 was 2 lightsworns who faced each others in the quarterfinals (LOL) 1 DAD (me) 3 Gladiators and 2 cornarches. I don't consider this a bad top 8 since it contains almost all of the mainstream deck (except maybe zombies) and I had to face them all (except DAD that was me duh) wich i find harder than to face the same deck all the time bacause you have to modify your playstyle.

^Oppression in glads is okay' date=' Only once you got heri on the field. That's a nice idea actually, just a bit too risky for my taste.

[/quote']

You can also use it with heavy storm or even better giant trunade to really screw the opponent.

Your godly performance makes me feel like a failpile. ._.

Must improve my skills! >:3

I can help I wasn't always that good. I get to practice with a lot of people at face2face and it really helps. I remember cedric sequerra's debut LOL that was beyond epic.

Who was it playing Oppression Glads? I gave that idea to a judge at the last sneak preview while joking around.

marc carisse (it was in the report BTW) he's not the first one to side oppression though i remember karim telling me about a guy who sided that vs him in toronto.
