Bloodrun
What if we were to change the ability to report a thread to one time per person, then, when said thread was reported a set number of times, lets just ssay 20 for the sake of picking a number, that thread will be locked.Untill a mod has a chance to look it over. That way, this would seriously cut down on the amount of flaming, spamming, porn, etc.. what have you.. so, what do you think?

CrabHelmet
The site from which I come, GameFAQs, used to employ a similar feature called the Automod. The problem was that factions of users would take advantage of this feature in order to get perfectly valid topics locked if they didn't like the topic, didn't like the topic creator, or just happened to be bored. The Automod was eventually removed due to abuse. For this reason, I would not support such a feature.

That's how it was on GameFAQs too. However, as I said, factions of users were able to each mark a topic once in order to get it locked. and the mods would be able to unlock it... When a moderator of the appropriate forum happens to be online' date=' yes. But especially with the current shortage of moderators, it's not a good idea to depend on this. Plus, if such a moderator were to come online, they could just lock the topic themselves. The amount of time saved by the Automod would equal the amount of time that the acceptable topic would remain locked. If this length of time is insignificant, then the Automod is unneeded. If this length of time is significant, then the Automod is a threat. and we dont have a large amount of rebellers here.. Never underestimate the worse side of people. As for "rebellers", I know for a fact that you've seen the recent General threads. Plus, don't forget that, even if such a feature were possible, it would require YCMaker's time and effort to code it. I seriously doubt that the benefit would be worth the price. Archbaron Larry
It's a good idea as long as you limit the number of times the post can be reported. So 1 user can only report the post once.
Yggdrasil
Why not just go with the first part, where each person can only report once? There's nothing wrong with this part, and the other part could be problematic.

moneypony
but maybe use a ranking system,if high leveled(6) members reported then it would add 6 to the point while if a level 1 reported then it would be 1 points, then you can raise it to perhaps 30.so if 5 level 6 members posted then it would be lock,as opposed to taking 15 level 2 members reporting to lock or you can mix like [3] level 6,[2] level 5,and a level 2.but lets say the value is 29 but a level 6 reported, then it will be 35,then the thread is still locked.and maybe once the thread is locked the mods can delete all the posts that said reported, you can't do that reported things so people won't just go to the thread and say reported to raise post counts and points.
