A Divided Nation - RPG (Started)

Recommended Posts

Once, there was a nation known as Arcania. Arcania was a prosperous nation that possessed powerful magic of cataclysmal proportions. This magic allowed the rulers of Arcania to weave threads of wind around their cities, lifting the buildings several thousand feet up in the air. A network of gryphons, four-legged eagles the size of a large warhorse, was established to let the citizens travel to other cities. The towns of Arcania prospered even more under this reign. But while the cities lived in a golden age, the smaller villages of Arcania, still stuck on the ground, started to fall apart. The peasants and villagers were still forced to pay taxes to the rulers in the sky, which had already then forgotten about them. At some point after that, they arrived.

They came through the ground, through the old catacombs and dug their way through the burial sites. It was the Undead. Led by the great Dezard, a necromancer with power unlike any else. Dezard himself led an army of skeletons to the ground capital of Arcania, and conquered it in a single day. Now, Dezard is looking to the skies for a new kingdom...

[spoiler=Information]

Alright, this is one of those really big RPGs that rarely see daylight on YCM. But no worries, it's a lot less complex than it seems. It's set in the war between the great Dezard, Lord of the Undead, and the Skies of Arcania, the prosperous cities in the skies. The players can join in at either side, making the RPG a tad more interesting. Dezard's side consists entirely of the undead and their controllers, which means Zombies and Spellcasters, and the Skies of Arcania, which is Fairies and Spellcasters. I allow up to four players of either side, a total of eight players. If you have any questions regarding gameplay, just send me a PM and I will answer.

[spoiler=Gameplay]

[spoiler=Main]

Initially, you as a player control three characters; your team. The characters consist of 1 Spellcaster-type monster, and 2 other monsters, whose Type depends on which side you pick, either Dezard (Zombie) or Arcania (Fairy). The Spellcaster-type monster can be Level 6 or lower, while the other monsters must be Level 4 or lower. You may only use existing monsters that can be found in Crossroads of Chaos or earlier, or anime-only/OCG-only cards. During the RPG, the players will come across new Creatures to join the team. In your team, you can have up to eight creatures at a time, including your Spellcaster. Along with this, you can select up to 2 Normal, Ritual, and/or Continuous Spell Cards. These are Spells available to your Spellcaster. You will also learn new Spells from studies or wandering mages: Up to 5 Spells can be remembered at a time.

[spoiler=Battle]

Battle will, when commenced, be turn-based. At the start of the battle, both players select three to five characters in their Team. (Warning: If your Spellcaster is not in the battle, you will not be able to use your Spells) These characters will be in the battle. The characters will be given initiative, which will determine the turn of actions. Along with ATK and DEF, the creatures will also have a new stat: HP, Health Points. When the HP hit 0, the character in question is killed. If you want to spare your characters from being killed, before the battle starts you can send me a “Retreat Limit”. If a creature's HP goes below that Limit, it retreats from the battle after the damage has been done. (Be aware that if you set it too low, your character might be killed.)

[spoiler=The 3,5 Battle System]

The 3,5 system

A Divided Nation uses the 3,5 Battle System, an innovative damage calculation system made by myself. This system is open for anyone else to use, if you want to.

How to calculate

To even start using the 3,5 system, you need a value; either ATK or DEF. We'll use a battle between a Blue-Eyes White Dragon (3000/2500) and a Dark Magician (2500/2100). If the Dark Magician attacks, the values for the battle are Dark Magician's ATK (2500) and Blue-Eyes White Dragon's DEF (2500). These values are now converted into Average Values, with a title of 3,5. Sounds complicated? Well, I'll get on to the explaining.

On a six-sided die, the results can be between 1 and 6. The average result for a six-sided die is therefore (1+6)/2, which is 3,5. I'm using six-sided dice to calculate the damage, so I'll apply Dark Magician's and Blue-Eyes White Dragon's Average Values to 3,5.

Tables

[spoiler=T1]

2250 = 1

2350 = 2

2450 = 3

2500 = 3,5

2550 = 4

2650 = 5

2750 = 6

[spoiler=T2]

2750 = 1

2850 = 2

2950 = 3

3000 = 3,5

3050 = 4

3150 = 5

3250 = 6

[spoiler=T3]

1850 = 1

1950 = 2

2050 = 3

2100 = 3,5

2150 = 4

2250 = 5

2350 = 6

Since both values were the same, we can use the same table (T1). The numbers to the right side of the equation shows the result on the die (3,5 not being a result, but an average) and the left side shows the number that the Average Value takes on. Now, it's time to roll the dice.

DM's ATK Roll: 3 = 2450

BEWD's DEF Roll: 5 = 2650

Since BEWD's DEF Roll is higher than DM's Attack Roll, the DM deals no damage. Instead, the BEWD retaliates on the DM, dealing 2650 - 2450 = 200 damage. However, since the BEWD retaliates, and not attacks, the DM only takes half of that damage. 200/2 = 100.

It's time to let the BEWD attack. We use the BEWD's ATK (T2) and the DM's DEF (T3). As we can see, the DM has no chance of retaliating.

BEWD's ATK Roll: 2 = 2850

DM's DEF Roll: 6 = 2350

Now, since BEWD's ATK Roll is higher than DM's DEF Roll, the BEWD deals 500 damage.

[spoiler=Fusions, Rituals and Synchros]

Fusions can only be conducted in Battles, where the appropriate monsters are in the battle, under your control, and you have an appropriate Spell, such as Polymerization. At the end of the Battle, the Fusion turns back into the original material.

Rituals can only be conducted in a battle, when you control the right amount of monsters, and the appropriate Ritual Spell is one of your Spellcaster's spells. Normal Ritual mechanics for Tributing apply. Ritual Monsters remain after a battle has ended, and there is no way to return the original monsters.

Synchros can only be summoned if you control the appropriate monsters, including at least 1 Tuner. Also, to prevent overuse of Synchros, you must possess a "Synchro Scroll" intended for the Synchro monster in question. If you use your Spellcaster to summon a Synchro monster, you will lose all of your Spells. Synchros can not be reversed.

I'm surprised not many have joined this. Simple, and looks decent. Also, Arcania looks too similiar to Arcadia...

*triumphant entry* I'm back!!

*complete lack of enthusiasm* oh well...

Anyway, what's this? Looks pretty interesting, though rather strange. And I'd think that at least some options for Warrior-type monsters would be available for Arcania. Ah, but no matter. I'll take a spot on Arcania's side.

I suppose all we have to post for now are the cards we picked and their names, yes?

Can I just protest Supreme Gamesmaster's Spellcaster? Chaos Sorceror is on the ban list for a reason. Spells and Traps on the ban list I can see being allowed, as well as banned monsters perhaps later on, as a reward for perilous deeds of derring-do, but from your rules I understand that the Spellcaster is the main monster, and wouldn't require Tribute Summon because of the whole "team" thing - that would make Chaos Sorceror even more broken, especially so early in the RP.

Ah, my bad. Fixed. I have some questions on Rituals though. Do you have to have the Ritual monster in your 'possession' before you can conduct the Ritual [akin to how the Ritual monster must be in your hand before activating the corresponding Ritual Spell card in a normal duel]? And are you allowed to select a number of monsters to offer as tributes, or does your entire team get thrown into the Ritual cauldron as the wording implies? This might've been better put on a PM, but I figure I'd save the trouble for others who might have the same questions.

Question: Do you decide when we learn new Spells and gain new Monsters, or do we? If we do, then this will be really broken. Or rather, the principle would be, because for the moment, it seems that all of the people in here are respectable RPers.

EDIT: Why did I know someone was gonna pick DMG? I mean, seriously folks, there's loads of other Level 6 and below Spellcasters out there, with way better effects.

Most likely Umbra does. Unless I miss my guess, he will periodically set us tasks and trials, and if we succeed in those, we will earn some new Spells or Monsters as rewards.

Because Dark Magician Girl combines well with an array of other cards - such as the Sage's Stone I added to my arsenal - which can make up for a lot of winning strategies. Thinking only of individual effects and missing the larger picture isn't going to take you very far in a group-oriented RPG.

Meh, bring on the trials. :D And all my strategy is is flipping a coin, and then if I fail, Second Coin. If I fail that, Dark Valkyria obliterates. But the coin flip won't fail. I shall use...Random! And win. :) And I'm not a groupy kind of person, so not really. Sage's Stone, sure, but what else? DMG's only use is in a Dark Magician deck itself.
