How to Recolor cards

Recommended Posts

YOU CANNOT REDISTRIBUTE THIS TUT OR RIP ANY PART OF IT.

ANY PERSON FOUND DOING SO WILL BE IN THE FOLLOWING PICTURE NEXT TIME

[align=justify]NOTE: This tutorial utilizes Actions and may not work with programs other than Photoshop if you want to get the 1-click result. But the rest of the tutorial will work fine with any normal graphic editing programs, so it is still useful if you don't have a program that supports actions.

Introduction

Welcome to the Card Recolor tutorial! For those who want to get quality card recolors without having to buy them in shops (with the exception of those that are free).

Sample result (after adding finishing touches)

Prerequisites

• A nice graphic editing program like Photoshop or PSP (not Paint!)

• Saved picture of the card you wish to recolor.

Procedure

  1. Start Photoshop. Open the card image.
  2. Click on the Actions icon (represented by a 'Play' button) or tab and click on the small down arrow at the top-left.

  3. Choose 'New Action...' and enter a name.
  4. Select the Rectangular Marquee tool. Carefully draw a rectangle around the picture of the card. Magnify if needed. Here is how it would look.

  5. Hold SHIFT select the sticker and Attribute (for this use Elliptical Marquee) in the same way. This adds to the selection.
  6. Now comes the complicated part: The effect box. First, hold SHIFT and select the entire box.
  7. Then, hold ALT and select the inner part of the box, which will deselect that region. If you have done things right up to this part the picture and frame, Attribute, sticker and box border should be selected.
  8. Right-click the selection and choose 'Select Inverse'. It should look like this.

  9. Press CTRL+U to open the Hue/Saturation menu. Check 'Colorize' and drag the sliders to a color of your choice. Forget the Level Stars for now, they'll be fixed later.
  10. Click the Stop button in the Actions tab (represented by a small square).
  11. Now open up another card you saved, and using the Elliptical Marquee select a Level Star and keep pasting it on your colored card to match the badly colored Level Stars. That's it!
  12. This step is optional. If you want a 1st Edition stamp, select the sticker using Rectangular Marquee and colorize it Gold.

Done ^_^ Next time you want to recolor a card in the same color, just choose the action which you saved and press the Play button. If you want it a different color, let the action finish, and then go to the step before Colorize in the History tab. Then you can colorize it again ^_^

Reps appreciated, comments please.

Wow. You taught me something.

Thanks ^_^

Anyway' date=' since it won't be 1 click with what you've said so far

It actually is if you want your cards to be in the same colour.

wouldn't it be best to make multiple actions (eg; "Recolour Spell/Trap"' date=' "Recolour Level1", "Recolour Level2", etc)?

Max you do is make an action till select inverse and put Colorize in another. And it does work same for spells/traps as the action DOES NOT include addition of Level Stars ^_^
