Rituals - What Was The Point?

Recommended Posts

Rituals only have one use in my eyes. That would be a way to summon really strong cards in your first turn.

Scenario

FIRST TURN

Guy 1 - I use Black Luster ritual and discard Blue Eye's White Dragon to Summon Black Luster Solder!

but what are the chances of that? A really sucky part was that is you didn't have the monster and you drew the Ritual Spell (or vice versa), you get a Dead Draw. Or if you got the spell and/or monster, but not enough tributes.

Sum it up, they pretty much sucked.

in the beginning there were rituals and ritual monsters. they were almost good. but people rejected them. the makers tried to make better ritual monsters. it didnt really work well. they sent demise. people used him, but he fell to the newer metagame. so the makers decided to make synchros to replace rituals. it worked. and every body lived happily ever after...

except for the ritual monsters! XD

thats why snychros are here. they are to replace rituals.

relinquished is good' date=' outside out of that i agree,

Relinquished isn't all that great. >_> There are better Rituals, Demise being the most powerful.

and' date=' does anyone else notice they almost never appear in the yugioh show,

[/quote']

Back in DM (and CM), they appeared a lot. Yugi/Yami used Black Luster Soldier and Magician of Black Chaos. Kaiba used Paladin of White Dragon. Pegasus used Relinquished. Noah's Deckmaster was Shinato, King of a Higher Plane. The combined Big Five used F.G.D., which was treated as a Ritual Monster. Alexander the Great used Reshef the Dark Being, and one of his subordinates used Garma Sword. Vivian Wong used Dragon Lady. Keith used Zera the Mant. Ryota Kajiki used Fortress Whale. Jou ran Lord of the Red and Knight of Dark Dragons. Mask of Light and Mask of Darkness used The Masked Beast. Dartz used Mirror Knight Calling. And Dark Master - Zorc is definitely related to the anime Zorc; it is based on the pre-DM Zorc from Monster World. In each case (Garma Sword notwithstanding), the Ritual Monster was either one of the user's key cards or support for one of the user's key cards.

In GX, their use began to wane, but they still made appearances. Most notably, Asuka had a series of three Ritual Monsters called Cyber Angels. A few others made one-shot appearances, too - Daichi used Litmus Doom Swordsman, Titan used Matador Archfiend, Kozaky used Dokudorider, Skull Knight used Lycanthrope, and Skilled Dark Magician and Skilled White Magician used Demise, King of Armageddon. Some made cameo appearances, too - Skull Guardian, for example, could be seen in Haou's army, and Legendary Flame Lord appeared in the OPEN YOUR HEART closing song.

As far as I remember, Rituals haven't done anything important in 5D's, but they've still made cameos; Lycanthrope was seen being used in Daimon Area once.

that being said' date=' i think fusions were worthless before elemental hero

[/quote']

I don't know in what order the cards were released, but I do know that Elemental Hero Fusion-based decks are utterly worthless, and that there are infinitely better Fusion monsters out there. >_>

Why was this necrobumped? <_<

On-topic: Pretty much the only thing that could have ever saved rituals was doing something drastic, like a huge ruling changed that placed Ritual Monsters into your Extra Deck, so they'd work similar to synchros.

Since they... didn't, each piece of the ritual summon was a dead draw unless you had the corresponding ritual spell/ritual monster in your hand at the same time. Unless they had a good enough effect to correspond with the -1 minimum cost, most rituals were not worth it. So... bad effects (other then Demise, most were not noteworthy), mandatory -1 (the spell, possibly more if you didn't use ARA), and the fact that it was a huge liability to run them (Monsters were dead draws without the spells. Spells were dead draws without monsters) rituals were a bad deck type, that didn't get better and was overall completely forgotten by Konami.

tl;dr version: lol, rituals

I was using a Ritual Deck during some of the tournaments I played. They actually got me the win a few times. My main card was "Zera the Mant" I got it from my older brother when he quit playing Yu-Gi-Oh. My Deck that never lost was a kick a$$ Exodia Deck.

1 Exodia Necross

1 Exoddius Master of the Guard

1 Exodia the Forbidden One

1 Left Arm

1 Left Leg

1 Right Arm

1 Right Leg

3 Contract of Exodia

3 Big Shield Gardna

3 Moving Golem

2 Stealth Bird

Spell

1 Pot of Greed

2 Pot of Avarice

3 Swords of Revealing Light

2 Level Limit Area A

Trap

I can't tell you because these cards are the key to the Deck.

there was a point several years ago when they were released: they allowed people to offer monsters with a spell to get a bigger monster, instead of tribute summoning.

The still didn't get that big though.

They were just too slow! You had to wait before you had the spell card, and the monster, and the needed amount of other monsters, before you could actually summon the thing, and then there didn't seem to have much point afterward. You lost too many cards in order to justify it's summoning.

The only ritual I wash fond of was relinquished, as I didn't have demise. And the only reason why I liked relinquished was that it was a fusion monster of restrict, and that card is fun to play. ^_^

I believe that they tried and failed to ressurect the rituals when they made advanced ritual art and ritual raven so long ago, but now ARA is limited. What was the point? It's basically where it was to begin with.

So I think they decided to revamp the idea into synchro monsters, which make a whole lot more sence for the game and how it works.

So, basically these ritual monsters never had a point.

The only ones actually worth it is Shinato' date=' King of a Higher Plane or Relinquished.

[/quote']

You are wrong.

On-Topic: Rituals were made to allow player's to Tribute monsters from their hands, and cast a powerfull monster quickly. Other than Demise, it never really caught on, since it requires to play atleast a 3-card combo. (Ritual Monster, Ritual Spell and atleast 1 monster to Tribute). The only exception would be ARA, but it got limited because of Demise OTK, altough it is completely innocent and Demise is a problem itself.

If they want to kill Demise OTK, they should ban Demise instead of limiting ARA.
