Well, I feel bad that you haven't been exposed to REAL hip hop or rap because that is not what rap is all about. As a matter of fact, in its infancy rap was not even about gettin money, having all the girls, or killing people. You've most likely been hearing gangsta rap, but gangsta rap is not the only kind of rap. There are even Christian rappers! But hopefully you can hear real rap to see that it is not all the same and is not all stupid.

That is because mainstream rap is unfortunately the most popular. Blame the ignorant people who like to hear stupid rap on shows like MTV and BET for that.

We don't hate rap for what it is, but for what it has become.

You can ask many of people and they will tell you the same...RAP isn't music...it lacks instruments....and don't tell me something like..."Oh, but DJ whatshisface has violets or guitars in his music!" becuase one person can't define a whole genre. Rap....Pfft who needs it.

{My Opinion}

If you want to say you like Rap, and say you like some old stuff like Notorious or Exploited, its cool. If you want to say you like rap with real meaning, like Expo (Audible Mainframe) and Eminem's earlier stuff, its cool. Hell, even DMX is alright, at least he's entertaining with his "gangster junk." Its when rap becomes associated with that Jay-Z and Nas junk, with Soulja Boy, Snoop Dogg, The Game, CHRIS BROWN, these rich big time phonies that are just sell outs for creating lousy music that teens and 20 year old Americans like to listen to. That is when we draw the line between rap being a type of music, and noise.

At least someone in this world has some sense. You make a good point. But the truth is I don't listen to rap. It's not that I hate it I mean I respect the old stuff and what not but it doesnt fit my personality :?. But you truth about the subject deserves a plus rep :)

I never stated that rap was good or bad, merely what type of rap is music and what type isn't.

I'd say theres a point at which some metal becomes more noise than music, some absolutely terrible sheet exists on both sides, the difference is that NOT NEARLY as much terrible metal is portrayed by the media as "good music" like it is for pop punk and rap/hip-hop.

Now Soulja Boy and Snoop Dogg I can agree with. Chris Brown isn't a rapper so I won't include him. But Nas IMO isn't junk. He has many songs that are about conscious things and have nothing to do with stereotypical rap/hip-hop subjects. It depends on how you listen to music. I think most people when they listen to rap are already going into it with low expectations, so they are only listening for the curse words and the stupidity. But to me, songs are just poetry with a beat, music, and instruments. When I listen to rap songs, I listen for truth, clever similes, metaphors, and punchlines. Hell, sometimes if the beat is good enough I might just listen to that. But it just depends on your taste of music.

I'd say theres a point at which some metal becomes more noise than music, some absolutely terrible s*** exists on both sides, the difference is that NOT NEARLY as much terrible metal is portrayed by the media as "good music" like it is for pop punk and rap/hip-hop.

Metal is noise when you hear crap like Linkin Park or BFMV or oh god I hate this one A7x.

Screamo...Meh depends. A lot of the time it sucks though.

Death Metal is the sheet in a good way.

Thrash Metal is the sheet in a good way.

Black Metal is on that border line of being noise, but it's really aggressive.

Lamb of God is it's own Genre. It's the best band there is.

_

Honestly I'll listen to some rap. Not willingly, but I won't hate it. Soulja Boy are suck. In fact most people who listen to Soulja Boy only listen because he has easy dances that apparently some people think looks good. Lil' Wayne is okay I guess. Master P is cool as hell even if he is like the rap that is about drugs and violence and sheet.

Overall I'll listen to anything as long as it isn't Bluegrass, or oh god this is the worst, Techno/Trance *shudders*.

@ Death: I meant Killswitch Engage. They s-ck beyond belief.

@ Super: I generalized, Chris Brown is the most popular in the Rap/Hip Hop industry, and the song that put him there is one of the top ten worst songs of all time.

lemme see if you can run it run it

girl indeed i can run it run it

run it run it

Too bad he can't.

Oh, and when I said Nas, I meant the whole "Jay-Z and Nas top the records" thing that happened way back when, when they were serious business, just post millenia.

And you have a point, a good beat can make a bad song good.

Speaking of good beats.....
