A Doom Tutorial ~ Noobs and Newbies - What they are, and how to Treat Them

Recommended Posts

Now, noobs and newbies, or newbs, are often thought to be the same thing. This is not the case.

A newbie is a new member who's as respectful as the next guy and has some pretty high regard for the rules and can make fairly good cards.

A noob is a new member who spams http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/showthread.php?tid=8112, posts consecutively, possibly flames here and there, etc.

Noobs can be problematic if not handled properly. It's important to be calm and respectful to the noob, help them, give them links to threads they might need based on their post, the rule thread, the ocg thread, or the spam thread. All of these threads help noobs see the light. Filling them up with neg reps, flaming them, telling them their cards suck, etc is not the answer, it will make things worse. Just tell them off calmly and respectively and help them develop and evolve into a good member as much as you can. Neg reps, flaming, telling them their cards suck, etc. will make them angry, and angering the noob could make the noob take actions which could scar their account or get them banned.

If they repeat rule-breaking than they are at the hands of the moderators.

The goal is to convert noobs into newbs, and help both noobs and newbs evolve their card making skills and become legends.

Example of a noob's card:

Upon the encounter of such a card, it is important to remain calm.

Replies:

Scurvy Tiger: WTH? Fail card is fail. 2043-fail-camera.jpg. 1/10 Lrn to make cards.

As we can see, Scurvy Tiger did not respect this member and isn't helping him in any way, these types of posts are an unfortunate reality and it's best that you ignore them. Now joining in with Scurvy Tiger is a big mistake, what he is doing is disrespectful and such posts should be reported.

What not too do:

Dynamite Karl: Yeah, Scurvy pretty much summed it up. 1/10

OR

1/10

Posting nothing but a rating is spam, and posting nothing but a rating is spam and doesn't help the topic creator in any way, if you don't like the card, help the poster to improve it or don't post at all.

What to do:

Disco Bandit: Hmm, that card looks like it needs a bit of work, just fix up the following and it'll be great.

1. I think you'll need a background to go with your picture.

2. 8000 ATK might be good because it's strong, but you don't want to make it too strong, if you want to make a realistic card you can't make it too strong, I think this card would be better off with 1200 or so ATK and 900 DEF to match the level.

3. Your Official Card Grammar or wording for your card is a little off, it's important to make your wording ust like real cards made by Konami to make your cards realistic.

Here's an OCG fix: When this card is Summoned, destroy 2 cards your opponent controls.

Looks like your effect is a bit too powerful, maybe destroying only 1 card would be better, in which case, use this wording: When this card is Summoned, destroy 1 card your opponent controls.

The part on your card about the cactus is a description and should be used on Normal Monsters (Monsters with Yellow Backgrounds) not effect monsters.

Here's a link to help you with Official Card Grammar: http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/showthread.php?tid=51154

4. Your Set ID needs to be built like this: _ _ _ _-EN_ _ _ Fill the first 4 blanks with letters and the last 3 blanks with numbers.

5. Don't say First Edition. It should be 1st Edition, but don't say tjhat either, because all 1st Edition cards have gold stickers. YCM does not supply these gold stickers, so it's best to leave your circulation section blank.

I hope this helps, keep making cards and remember these tips. Follow through on those steps and someday you might be a legend. ^_^

Disco Bandit took his time to help the noob, and his actions are recommended.

I hope you found this tutorial useful, good day to you all, and remember, treat newbs and noobs just like you'd treat any other member.

Thanks for reading. ^_^

^^Inexperience, schminexperience. All it takes is effort. Sure, you get better with time, but truly bad cards can only be made via lack of effort.

um' date=' i dont find how this would help a new member

it insults them, more then it encourages them -.-"

It's not directed at new members. And it's not insulting any new members either, noobs are a more spammy varient of new member and it is important that people don't discourage them and make 'em angry.

Touma: Yeah, sometimes people get noobs confused with newbies. ^_^

clissification

of an unvarient group is unjustified

there new, there going to spam

ans sense they are new, they dont read the rules

prompting them to spam

WYHE: Yeah, hopefully, if you see any posts which abuse new members just report 'em.

Blood: That's where you help them and give links to threads like the rules and the new OCG thread by DJ Osiris. This makes it so that people try to help them instead of flaming them and provoking them to take actions which could severely ruin their reputation to the point where it's too late, or get them to leave, or possibly even get them banned.

What's your system?

Sorry. I deleted that post. It seemed a bit spammy to me. Anyway' date=' I think newbies that post super overpowered cards shouldnt be abused as long as they didnt post them in sections other than one of the Custom Card Forums. It's when they spam in the Your Deck Forum for example when I reckon abuse is warranted.

Yeah but I think it'd be better to report their post to get it moved to the Any Other Cards Section and tell them that that's where they should post their first cards as they develop their skills.

Bloodrun: I'm not denying that, it's just that that's really not relevant to the topic.

I think if they do it more than once then that is pure ignorance. I reported a number of newbies (all in one day) for continuously posting pokeplushies and cards in the Your Deck Forum and the TCG Forum. They did it more than once. One of them even spammed in my fan fic. That is ignorance in my opinion. I say ignorance is no excuse especially when it happens more than once.
