Gyarados is very worthwile. Keep it away from electrics' date=' unless it's faster and has Earthquake, but otherwise it's a fine choice. Pidgeot is a waste of time, as is Raticate. As Zaraki said, get yourself a Pikachu.

Primape is the second fastest fighting type, so it may be worth some training if you catch a Mankey. Onyx is also good for the early stages of the game.

@New guy: You are approved. Roxas will add you to the roster as a Creeper.

NO U

Gyarados, if in this case (IMO). should either replace Squirtle or be left in a box. Through my personal experience, (maybe I have bad luck =/) it's bad to have more than one Pokemon of the same type in a party.

Oh, here's my Gyarados in case any of you are curious:

Gyarados, Male. Level 100.

Held Item: (I wanna give it MysticWater, but it just seems wrong =/)

Attacks:

Surf

Earthquake

ThunderWave

Dragon Dance

Yeah' date=' training a magikarp is stupid, unless you have EXP share or keep switching, which gets to be tedious. I have Manley at ten and have sparrow at ten also. I'm training everybody to ten before I hit the forest. I will get pikachu, only to replace it with a chansey later. She can live for a long time In battle.

WRONG!!

I'll let you figure it out.

@Zaraki: Get rid of Thunder Wave and Surf - Gyarados is a physical attacker, and Surf is special. Earthquake is the way to go, along with Ice Fang and Waterfall (which is physical). Keep Dragon Dance, as it can turn it into a juggernaut. The Held Item you want is Wacan Berry - it works once, and lowers the effectiveness of a Foe's Electric Attack. Just D-Dance, and have Gyarados take whatever attack is coming (If it's electric, Wacan should let it survive). Then start sweeping with EQ and Waterfall. Use IF against Grass, Flying, and Dragon types.

Gyarados > Blastoise, so put Squirtle in a box, Mineku, as soon as you get Magikarp to evolve.

Bulbasaur sucks.

If you're not going to pick a water type' date=' then pick Charmander.

The rest of the game is incredibly easy after the second gym.

[/quote']

Yeah after the second gym where all you have is rock, bug, bird, and the starter pokemon at your disposal.

Oh and pikachu but he sucks at rock types anyway

@Marly:

Aerodactyl is fine - that's a good set-up on a Leadodactyl.

Alakazam - I recommend Focus Blast over Signal Beam. It's stronger, and while less accurate, is more reliable for taking down Dark types, and also smacks around Steel, Rock, and Ice types. Trick is great on a scarfer - you can either use the insane speed to revenge kill something (like a Weavile), or you can trick your scarf onto something that just D-Danced or S-Danced. Shadow Ball hits Psychics and Ghosts rather nicely, and might be a consideration over HP Elec. You'll lose your edge over Water and Flying, but you can at least hit those neutrally with Psychic, at the least. But that one can go either way - keep HP if you want to.

Infernape - can be risky if set up on the wrong pokemon. Nasty Plot can do serious Flame Damage, and Grass Knot handles those pesky resisters. CC is another always viable choice. You did a nice job picking the moves out. Due to the fragility factor, though, you may want to ditch Life Orb and go with another Focus Sash, but that's completely up to you. Infernape can still do nasty damage without the Orb.

Rhyperior - Straightforward Choice Band set up. Not bad. Rhyperior can become devastating if lent some speed by a passing Ninjask, but that's not completely necessary. The moves you picked have plenty of coverage, too.

Salamence - Here's your Life-Orber, here. He needs to come in on a physical attacker, so he can intimidate them and lower their usability. Hopefully, that will force a switch (unless you're dealing with a mixed-spread user), and you can use the opportunity to dance. Fire Blast's accuracy can hurt you, so you might want to think about Flamethrower, but it's optional. Careful with Outrage lock. If you want more safety against potential Ice-Users during the initial set-up, you can go with Yache Berry, but that hurts Salamence's ability to damage with Life Orb.

Blissey - I see you've picked out your standard Blissey. It's up to you, really. Thunder Wave is my choice. Toxic will only ever be necessary against Wall Pokemon (most of whom can rest it off). T-Wave is better for hitting Scarfers, including the ever-threatening scarf Heatran.

Do we have any good graphic artists in the house? I'd like a banner for the RP I'm running' date=' and I trust you guys the most. :D

Er, I think I'm the closest thing to a GFXer in this club, and I'm mediocre at best =\

@Zex: Thanks =3 I've been debating taking out Rhyperior or not, still not sure, but I think I'll keep him for now. I'll take out Life Orb for Focus Slash, and after testing both Toxic and T-wave on Shoddy, I liked T-Wave better.

Damn, I feel so left out. =(

@Larx - Bulbasaur does not suck. Choosing the grass-type Pokemon at the start of the game is a good choice. Why? Because most of the wild pokemon types are either rock/ground or water, which grass-type Pokemon are strong against. The odds of running into a fire-type in the wild are rather slim, too.

@Zex - Would you mind if I sent you a TekTek version of me for the fic like Nagato did? (That is, if I appear.)
