Flip Summoning?

So when you put a card face down, does it count as a summon? Could you put a card face down AND put a card in face up attack in the same turn? Also, when your opponent attacks a face down defense position monster and it's flipped face up, does it count as a flip summon?

Well, placing a monster face down is called a set rather than a summon, but you can't summon any more monsters. And yes the attack it does count as a flip summon.

Actualy, you can Set a monster during your main phase and place a monster face up via a special summon effect like Monster Reborn or any of the return from graveyard type cards for that matter.

You must make the required tributes when you set the card, then, once you do flip it, it is regarded as a flip summon.

First off, once per turn you can either normal summon OR set.

 

And when a monster is attacked while face down it is flipped up NOT flip summon. A monster is only flip summoned when manually flipped into the attack position by the controller. Flip effects apply during both circumstances.
