name changes, suggestion to the new rule

Recommended Posts

well with the new rule of no more name changes, which i know it is not up for debate but this is my idea to lighten the rule a bit to make it easier for new members

it seems alot of new members choose horrible names and just pick at random and as their time on the site goes by they may want to change it later on.

my suggestion is that every time you go up in a star or rank you get one week or so to change your name.

same thing with mods

when you go from mod, to super mod get the chance to change

this is just a suggestion and i do see some flaws with this idea.

This is a good idea. Just the mods should be able to change it whenever they want' date=' for they have earned their abilitys.

Here's the part I want to address. I've noticed that some of the Mods here, IMHO, change their name too much. Yes, it's true that they've more than earned the right to do so and slight changes cause no real impact(aka keeping the core theme of the name or part of it which makes it obvious as to who you are). Some Mods do complete name changes on a fairly regular basis which makes keeping track of them for actual forum related issues overly complex. It's hard enough to get the newbies on a forum to learn who does what without the names jumping all over the place when they do finally get it down correctly. Well, that's my 2 cents on that point.

As for the actual idea, it does have it's merits worth considering although it's kind of flawed(which has been pointed out) in it's current form. An accomplishment based(or milemarker/milestone if you wish) system which awards members in good standing for extended periods of time with the privilage of something like a namechange is an interesting contept. The problem, as stated by others, with the system as it's currently proposed in this thread is that the lower star ranks are a walk in the park to blow through and once you've done that then the people who are truly deserving of privilages are out of the system already. Also, I'm simply not a fan of any system that's based entirely on post counts because I believe it puts unnecessary emphasis on making posts as opposed to being a quality member.

Overall, it would be something worth considering and tinkering around with if not for the fact that a new system is already in place and appears to not be changing any time in the near future. According to the Mods this problem has already been resolved and it's our role as members to trust them when they say this or, at the very least, give the system they came up with a few months to see how it plays out(since it's brand spanking new). ;)

Using the word "Some" in the initial post I made on this subject makes it not a "generalization" of an entire group but annonymously points out an issue which I felt should be looked at by the Mod Staff. What you're proposing, by pointing out specific people in a thread in the public forums, is simply a means by which I could be found in violation of the forum rules(no matter how nicely I put the comments) and end up getting banned for trying to start something with a Mod..which is not my intent so I won't follow that course of action. Let's look at this by the numbers.

1. I made a proper statement with the word "some" in it as to not generalize.

2. You attempted to correct the statement by saying that only 2 Mods fall into the statement I presented which means you know the details of which I am referring which makes your last statement kind of pointless.

3. This means that I had a statement to make and you(a Mod) got the statement so the communication of points was successful and I, honestly, see no point to go beyond this since the information made it successfully from point A to point B. Anything beyond this would lead back to the above statement of getting myself into trouble which I have no desire to persue because I'm currently a member in good standing and wish to remain that way.

And that, as they say, is pretty much that. Thank you for taking the time to read my point and acknowleding that it exists. :)

I agree with you but other members may not be as literate as you. Also you could stop saying that thing in the last thing of your post. Just because I am a mod doesnt mean im super human, treat me as i was a normal member

I'm sorry if the last bit of my post was taken in a negative way. I assure you that I mean it in a literal and sincere fashion(no hidden meanings). Being that I understand what it's like to be a Mod/Admin on a forum of this size I do truly appreciate it(mainly when it comes to suggestions and such reguarding how this forum is run) when my points are read and replied to by someone on the Mod Staff. When I have conversations like this with the other Mods in PMs I also thank them for their time as well so I just want you to know that I'm not singling you out. It's merely a coincidence that you happen to be the Mod I am dealing with in the last 2 threads on policy in which I participated. Rest assured that if this were a contest thread, card rating, or something else that isn't about forum policy...I would, in fact, treat you like a normal member. It's only the point that in threads like this the opinion of the membership is one thing but, and let's be honest here, the opinion of the Mods/Admins are what truly matters since they're the ones with the actual power to make things happen.

Since it is your wish, I will stop thanking you for doing your new job. The last thing I want to do is make someone feel bad by thanking them. ;)
