Ch 26-Dark Day Part II

Previously on Yu-Gi-Oh Key of the Mind

Clair had been assigned yet another duel by the Pro League, but this one was up against Noland Blight…a strong duelist who was said to match the legendary Duel King. As of now, Clair’s had her ass handed to her repeatedly by Noland’s relentless strikes. Strangely, Noland is dueling with even more determination than ever, as if it were beating an old rival…

The dreaded duel between Clair & Noland continued as Clair was at a loss over her future moves as her field remained utterly barren. On the other hand, Noland had both the Warlord & Wu-Lord of Dark World, Goldd & Sillva. (ATK: 2300 x2) Besides that, Dark World Arena still presided over the field & Noland had Card of Safe Return, Magical Thorn & Bad Reaction to Simochi with him too. Life Points-wise, Noland was in the lead.

Noland (LP: 3400) Clair (LP: 3100)

“You may crush my strategy as much as you want, but you cannot crush me,” said Clair, “set 2 face-down cards & end turn.”

“Time to end this,” said Noland, “draw! Now I attack you directly with Goldd! Gold Axe Strike!”

Goldd flew towards Clair to slash at Clair.

“Sorry, but your Goldd will just have to wait because I play my Trap Card, Negate Attack,” said Clair as a force field blocked off Goldd’s attack.

“Lucky, since no damage was dealt, you are safe from my Dark World monsters…for now,” said Noland, “but I can always play a Spell Card called Rain of Mercy.”

“That card would give both players 1000 Life Points under normal circumstances,” said Curtis, “but with Bad Reaction to Simochi, Clair will be damaged & Noland will be healed.”

Over the Arena, there was a storm cloud building up. Then, it released rain onto the field. Clair felt that they were like acid rain, while Noland had no reaction to it.

“I end my turn & it’s your move,” said Noland.

“Draw,” said Clair, “I shall get more draw power with the Trap Card Psychic Overload. By returning 3 Psychics to my deck, I can draw 2 extra cards.”

The 3 cards ejected from the Graveyard & Clair placed Magical Android in her Extra Deck & shuffled the rest with her normal deck. After which, Clair drew 2 new cards, a Field Spell Card & a Normal Spell Card. Clair looked at her new cards & smiled.

“There’s still hope left, Noland & I shall prove it!” said Clair, “I summon Mind Master!” (ATK: 100)

Clair’s ever-loyal Duel Spirit appeared & beeped at Clair.

“Now I play Spell Economics to avoid Life Point payment for any Spell Cards, allowing to by-pass the 1000 Life Point cost of this handy Spell, the Instant Synchronize!”

The card appeared on the field, showing 3 rings & 2 stars aligning with one another.

“With that card, Clair can summon a Synchro Monster directly to the field without a proper Synchro Summon!” exclaimed MC Ben, “but there are some limitations to it.”

“Like the summoned monster must be at most a Level 5 & it cannot be used as a Release or attack & it will be removed from play when this turn ends,” said Penny, “but it’s obvious on Clair’s intentions.”

“Oh really, then I haven’t seen it yet,” remarked Layla.

“By the power of Instant Synchronize, I call upon my Magical Android!” said Clair as Magical Android returned onto the field. (ATK: 2400)

“It may be strong enough to deal with either 1 of my 2 monsters, but you will still lose out in the end,” said Noland.

“I will now Tune Magical Android with my Mind Master!” cried Clair, “Boundless time flies sail through space. Flesh & technology evolve as 1 brilliant light. Synchro Summon, Neo Jinzo!” (ATK: 2800)

Mind Master became a single ring of light that flew past Magical Android that became 5 stars & they both combined into a light that formed a new creature. It was an android cast in golden armor & was like a more elaborate version of Jinzo. Its entire face was merely a plate with 7 optical sensors attached over its flesh. Its shoulder pads were huge & more armored than its counterparts. Only its lower torso was different from its counterparts, it was more like a spider’s abdomen instead.

“Am I going to assume that it has the effect of Jinzo?” asked Noland.

“Not exactly, but I shall reveal them in a while,” said Clair, “After I play a new Field Spell, Cyber Net World!”

Clair slid the card onto a slot opened at the side of her Disk. The Arena crumbled into dust as it collapsed onto the ground. The area was then filled with a warped area with circuitry all over.

“Thanks to this card, we don’t need to pay Life Points to use Monster Effects, which helps me a lot,” said Clair, “and now my Neo Jinzo will use its special ability to destroy a Trap Card by paying 1000 Life Points for 1 Trap, which I don’t need to thanks to Cyber Net World. Go, Trap Eradication Blast!”

Neo Jinzo fired a blast from its optical sensors & it shattered both Magical Thorn & Bad Reaction to Simochi.

“Now Clair is safe & able to regain her Life Points back,” said Penny.

“Clair may be cleared from Noland’s Traps, but for how long?” exclaimed MC Ben.

“Neo Jinzo, attack with Psychic-Cyber Energy Blast!” yelled Clair.

Neo Jinzo formed an energy orb in its hands & launched it at Sillva, which destroyed him.

Noland (LP: 3900) Clair (LP: 2100)

“I place a face-down & end my turn,” said Clair.

“Then I shall draw!” said Noland, “I play the Card of Sanctity, so that we have a full hand each.”

Both of them drew out their cards, as per the card’s effect.

“I play After the Struggle now!” said Noland as the card appeared, “every monster that has been involved in a battle will all be destroyed at the end of this turn, & so Goldd shall attack your Neo Jinzo with Gold Axe Strike!”

“But won’t Goldd be destroyed by that attack?” wondered Louis.

Goldd hesitated on attacking at first, but still rushed at Neo Jinzo for its attack. However, Neo Jinzo countered that move with an energy blast that destroyed the attacking Goldd instead.

“As the gap between our competitors’ Life Points draw closer by Noland’s strange move, what is our Duel King planning?” said MC Ben, whose words suddenly built speculation among viewers.

“I place 3 cards face-down & end my turn,” said Noland, “in which your Neo Jinzo will be destroyed by effect of After the Struggle.”

Neo Jinzo itself slowly rusted as it shattered into pieces.

“Well then, I draw,” said Clair, “and I summon Mind Protector.” (DEF: 2200)

Then, the miniature robot appeared onto the field & knelt in defense.

I will also play Graceful Charity…”

“By playing a Normal Spell Card, you have activated my Dark Deal Trap Card,” said Noland, “by paying 1000 Life Points to seal the deal, your Spell Card’s effect is changed so that I may discard a card from my hand randomly.”

“I pick…uh…the…middle card,” said Clair.

Noland smiled wickedly & revealed the card as a monster card that had an orange border & 7 stars & quickly discarded it away.

“Tell me, do you know the identity of Dark World’s master?” asked Noland.

“That would be…the Mad King, Brron, right?” answered Clair.

“That’s what most commoners would think, but what I have now is the True Absolute King of Dark World whom Brron must obey like an obedient pet & stand for him in public,” said Noland, “The earth trembles in fear of an ancient terror. Chaos shall reign forever more under its iron fist. I beseech you now to grovel before the True Absolute King, Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World!”

Suddenly, the whole area shook violently as a gigantic fiend appeared. It was pale in its form & held a long staff in its right arm. (ATK: 2500)

“W-w-what an outstanding ploy by our own Duel King!” exclaimed MC Ben, “By sacrificing Goldd just to destroy Neo Jinzo who can destroy his Dark Deal Trap Card, Noland is now free to play it so that he may summon his Ace Monster, Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World!!!”

“But that desperate move he just performed was quite odd for him…” thought MC Ben.

“When he is summoned by a discard effect of my opponent’s cards, Reign-Beaux shall unleash its wrath that can easily wipe out either all your monsters or spell & trap cards on the field,” said Noland, “and I select the first choice. Go, Vacuum Wave!”

Reign-Beaux’s chest glowed for a moment as it unleashed rainbow lightning from it to destroy Mind Protector, who was vaporized almost immediately.

“Now I will activate my next Trap, Battle Paradox!” said Noland as the card flipped up. It was showing a battlefield where a group of soldiers were charging when another group that was simply an apparition charging against the first group.

“Say, a paradox is a contradicting statement or action,” said Noland, “and this card is no different, because we can only attack during the Battle Phase of the opponent’s turn.”

“But if they can’t attack on their respective turn, then that is very self-contradicting,” said Layla.

“That’s why they called it a paradox,” replied Curtis, “but Clair will be doomed if Reign-Beaux does a direct attack on her.”

“Since I can battle & you have no monsters left to defend you…Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World, finish this duel with Waves of Destruction!”

Reign-Beaux raised its staff at Clair & it fired a ray of black energy at Clair. This blast resulted in a grand explosion that set the entire field in smoke.

“I’m sure of it! She’s creamed for sure!” said Curtis.

“No way, Clair’s still got that face-down,” said Penny.

“Maybe, but what’s that gonna to do?” replied Curtis.

“Well well, it had been fun, but I’m afraid that it must end,” said Noland as the smoke slowly cleared away, revealing Clair to be standing.

“Then let’s dance for 1 more round,” said Clair, “thanks to my Trap Card, Half Barrier.”

“What a close call!” said MC Ben, “For all you dueling noobs out there, let me explain. Half Barrier activates only in when your opponent’s monster attacks you directly. It can reduce Battle Damage from that monster by half.”

“I set 3 cards face-down on the field & that’s it,” said Clair, “and you will take a heavy hit next turn.”

“Although Clair had just prevented her defeat for now, she’s still at a standstill here,” said Curtis, “with Battle Paradox, she can only attack during Noland’s turn & she has no monsters now.”

“Draw!” said Noland.

“I activate my Trap Card now! Go, Soul Tuning!” cried Clair, “I can remove monsters in my graveyard from play to summon a Synchro Monster from my Extra Deck. Therefore, I remove both Mind Master & Neo Jinzo from play for this effect. Ascend into a plane beyond all existence. Enlighten thee with light of guidance. Synchro Summon! Rise from nothingness, Astral Plane Dragon!” (ATK: 2000)

The apparition forms of both Mind Master & Neo Jinzo appeared & dispersed into stars that merged as a beam of light. Out of the light, the great dragon appeared & roared in all its glory.

“When he is Synchro Summoned, I can remove every last monster in both our graveyards to power him up,” said Clair.

The apparition forms Bak, Broww, Sillva, Goldd, 2 Mind Protector & Magical Android appeared for a moment before they all vanished into light sparks that flew towards Astral Plane Dragon. (ATK: 2000~4100)

“Attack Reign-Beaux with Astral Burst!” cried Clair as Astral Plane Dragon prepared its attack.

“I shall not be denied of my victory!” Noland snapped, “I play Prideful Roar!”

The face-down card quickly opened up, showing Breaker charging against Mobius the Frost Monarch.

“By paying 1000 Life Points, I can render Reign-Beaux’s attack 300 points higher than your dragon’s!” said Noland. (2500/1800~4400/1800)

“What a desperate move he just made…” thought Benjamin.

Reign-Beaux unleashed a wave of darkness from its staff at Astral Plane Dragon & there was an explosion.

Noland (LP: 1400) Clair (LP: 550)

“It’s not over yet! I play Hell Raging Flame!” said Noland, “Now I can destroy your Cyber Net World & we both take 1000 points of damage.”

“I play Doppelganger to give back that damage to you!” cried Clair.

As such, a great inferno burnt the whole field & scorched both duelists.

Noland (LP: 0) Clair (LP: 0)

“That’s it! The duel has ended…in a tie, but it was quite a showdown though!” exclaimed MC Ben.

Both Clair & Noland were tired after that duel & they both knelt down.

“Ah, that was the best duel I’ve ever had,” said Noland as he laid down in exhaustion, “perhaps I should take a long break from all this. Clair, I shall now pass the torch to you. Handle it well & make me proud.”

In response, Clair smiled at him. After that, both of them fainted.

“Oh no! I’m gonna call the ambulance now!” exclaimed Benjamin.

Noland: The Card of the Day shall be the Overlord of Dark World, Reign-Beaux! As the only remaining fragment of the Chaos King, it seeks to revive its true power one day. If it were to be discarded by my opponent’s hand, I can summon it & it would unleash its wrath that can easily crush the opponent’s field. It may seem situational, but it could be deadly…with the right set of cards.

Both of them really put there all in. And the main character didn't win!

But that half barrier... Reminds me of a card i created called "Partial Saviour", except (unless that card has an ability that hasn't been used yet) mine is a bit better.

That's when you're wrong

Dark Deal changes the effect of the spell card (graceful charity) so that Noland must discard a card. As you can see, it was the altered effect of Clair's card that summoned Reign-Beaux

Ch 27-Absolute Justice

At the Oregeorgian General Hospital, Clair & Noland were resting in their beds that were next to each other. Benjamin was sitting beside both of them, tending to them.

“Noland, you’re but an old man,” said Benjamin, “you need to pull through this. Clair also had to, you still have a long way to go in the world out there.”

“Excuse me, sir,” said someone behind.

Benjamin turned around & saw Dr Teong with Norman.

“Yes?” replied Benjamin, “I’m the one who called the ambulance & the name’s…”

“Benjamin Booner, you’re a celebrity here. My nurses were talking about just now,” said Teong, “and I’m Dr Teong & this is my friend, Norman White. He is acquainted with Ms Clair Kinet.”

“I see…” said Benjamin as his PDA suddenly rang, “Oh dear, I’ve got an emergency meeting now. Dr Teong, I am afraid that I must leave now.”

With that said, Benjamin rushed out immediately.

“Glad he’s out for now, let’s get down to business,” said Teong, “so this is the Psychic girl whom you speak of…I expected her to be…well, more.”

“She might be young, but her dueling skills are superior enough to beat me and even…” said Norman.

“I know, she practically had the Oregon Duel King on his ropes,” said Teong as he looked at Noland, “when she awakes, he wants to see & test her.”

“Must he do it!” said Norman, “I can vouch that she’s strong enough.”

“If we know him even to the slightest, he is not convinced of anything unless he sees it himself,” said Teong, “I will keep watch of both of them while I wait for her legal guardians to come.”

Meanwhile, outside the Dales home, Penny & her family were rushing out to their car.

“C’mon! Let’s get ourselves straight to the hospital!” shouted Penny.

Just when everyone got inside the car & the engine was started, a long spike suddenly flew directly in front the car, forcing it to halt. Everyone quickly got out of the car to see the commotion.

“Hey who’s there!” yelled Curtis.

“Over here, you fool,” said a voice.

He looked up & saw a hooded kid flying on a Syntho-Daemon. This one looked somewhat bony in its form &was covered by masks everywhere throughout its body. The kid jumped off the Syntho-Daemon & landed on the ground safely & it landed soon after.

“Let me introduce myself. I’m Dario Vertz,” said Dario, “and we are servants of the Overmind.”

“You’re working for him!” exclaimed Penny.

“Yes & I should too, he saved me all those years ago & I shall repay his kindness,” said Dario, “I will take all of you away.”

“Not without a duel, you don’t!” retorted Penny as he tossed Curtis a Duel Disk & she wore one herself.

“I have no time for this…but if you insist…” said Dario as he raised his arm to reveal a Duel Disk, “then let it be so. Sachiel, get ready!”

It was apparently the name of the Syntho-Daemon as it nodded in response & a mask on its left arm stretched open as a Duel Disk.

“This shall be a Tag-Team Duel by the way,” said Dario, “the cycle shall be Curtis, followed by Sachiel, Penny & I shall be the last.”

“More than happy to pummel you then,” said Curtis.

“Draw,” said Curtis, “I summon Destiny Hero-Disk Commander in Defense Mode!” (300/300)

A man in blue spandex appeared to kneel on the spot. There were disks attached to his arms & back.

“I place 1 face-down card, end turn,” said Curtis.

“Draw,” said Sachiel in a snake-like voice, “I summon Grand Tiki Elder in Attack Mode.”(1500/800)

As such, a serpentine creature appeared. Masks were placed on it, 1 on its face & the other 3 masks on its body. It was turquoise in colour.

“Set 3 cards face-down & end turn,” said Sachiel as 3 cards appeared.

“Now I will show you a true move…draw!” said Penny, “and I summon Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress!” (1700/200)

A woman in white robes appeared onto the field. She carried a staff in her hands.

“And I will end my turn after ditching 3 cards from my deck,” said Penny as she sent Realm of Light, Lightsworn Barrier & Ray of Hope to the Graveyard.

“Wait, why didn’t Penny attack when she had the chance?” asked Layla.

“Because in a Tag-Team Duel, all players must go through their respective Draw Phase before anyone can attack,” answered Curtis.

“Going on…it’s my turn,” said Dario, “I summon People Running About in Attack Mode!” (600/600)

A group of peasants wearing rags appeared. They were all wearing raggy clothing & had fear in their eyes.

“Huh?” wondered everyone else, except for Sachiel, who remained emotionless.

“They are a group of oppressed villagers who constantly fled in fear of the army who would torture them,” said Dario, “some say they run to a certain place for an unknown agenda.”

“Ok…but they are too weak,” said Penny.

“And that’s why I equip them with the Equip Spell Card called Revolutionary Willpower!” said Dario, “this card can only be equipped to 3 specific monsters & People Running About is 1 of them. It can empower my monster with 1000 Attack Points & a trampling ability.”

The Equip Spell Card appeared, showing a peasant who was glowing with a red aura pushing himself against a royal guard. The peasants then glowed with a fiery aura & they looked more courageous too. (600/600~1600/600)

“And I shall attack your Disk Commander with Wild Rampage!” ordered Dario.

The peasants then quickly charged at Disk Commander. Disk Commander braced himself for the impact, but he was trampled by the running peasants.

“And I set 2 cards face-down & I end my turn as that,” said Dario.

“You’ll pay for that. Draw!” said Curtis, “I play my face-down Call of the Haunted to revive my Disk Commander.”

The face-down card opened & the blue-clothed hero reappeared & posed in a heroic position. (300/300)

“When he is Special Summoned from the Graveyard, I’m allowed to draw 2 cards,” said Curtis as he drew. 1 of the cards drawn was a Level 6 monster, “and I Release my Disk Commander for Destiny Hero-Dasher!” (2100/1000)

Disk Commander shot up as a beam of light that converted into a portal. Then, a man in pitch-black armor appeared. His legs were car wheels instead & he struck another heroic pose.

“Show those people over there what true running is all about, Dash Strike!” cried Curtis as Dasher zoomed towards the People Running About.

“Not so fast, activate Trap Card, The One to be Protected,” said Sachiel, “by sending a monster whose Attack is higher than your monster’s Attack, I can negate Battle Damage & the monster’s destruction. As such, I send off…Masked Beast Des Gradius who has 3300 Attack Points.”

Sachiel took Masked Beast Des Gradius & sent him to the Graveyard. The silhouette of Des Gradius appeared to block Dasher’s attack.

Penny (LP: 4000) Curtis (LP: 2700) Dario (LP: 4000) Sachiel (LP: 700)

“Despite that, the player would lose Life Points equal to that monster’s Attack,” said Dario, “my Syntho-Daemon is always willing to risk everything to conduct its mission, which is aidding me to defeat you.”

“Yah, but your monster got to be something if such strong protection is needed,” said Penny.

“Arg…I set just 1 card & end turn,” said Curtis.

“Draw,” said Sachiel, “I summon Herald of Creation in Attack Mode.” (1800/600)

A female priest in golden armor appeared onto the field. She held a long golden staff in her arms.

“By her effect, I can add 1 Level 7 or above monster from my grave to my hand…such as my Masked Beast Des Gradius,” said Sachiel as he retrieved Des Gradius from the graveyard, “by Releasing my Herald & Tiki Elder, I can Special Summon my Masked Beast Des Gradius!” (3300/2500)

Both Grand Tiki Elder & Herald of Creation melded into a single portal of light & a huge form appeared onto the field. It was somewhat elf-like & had green skin. It had 4 different masks that concealed what that seemed to be its face & upper body. It stared at the other duelists with its blank eyes.

“Des Gradius, attack…Lyla!” cried Sachiel as Des Gradius faced Lyla & slashed her.

Penny (LP: 2600) Curtis (LP: 2700) Dario (LP: 4000) Sachiel (LP: 700)

“I play Trap Card, Mask of Restrict,” said Sachiel as the Trap Card flipped up, showing a mask with the symbol of “seal” on it.

“Oh great! Now we can’t Release monsters now,” said Curtis.

“Never mind, I draw,” said Penny as she looked at her hand, which included Celestia, Lightsworn Angel.

“If Lyla had remained there, I could summon her…but Mask of Restrict would still stop me…” thought Penny, “then, it’s Plan B.”

“I summon Garda, Lighsworn Defender in Defense!” said Penny. (300/2400)

A heavily armored warrior in white armor appeared & held his shield to protect himself.

“Try getting past this fella’s defense,” said Penny, “I place 2 face-down cards & end my turn.”

“Great, then I draw,” said Dario, “I summon the Oppressed People in Attack Mode.” (400/2000)

Another group of peasants armed with farming forks & rakes appeared. They were apparently all in pain & anguish.

“I must pity them for they are a group of unfortunate villagers who had suffered horribly under the rule of an evil tyrant,” said Dario, “though they suffered under their lord’s power, they wished for their freedom one day.”

“Nice story and all, but let’s get on to the duel,” said Curtis.

“I play United We Stand & equip it to my Oppressed People,” said Dario as Oppressed People glowed with power, (2200/3600) “with that done; my Oppressed People will take out your Dasher with Futile Strike-Back!”

The Oppressed People then slowly charged at Dasher & whacked him with their makeshift weapons.

“With my Dasher’s demise, I can activate Destiny Signal!” exclaimed Curtis as the card flipped up & a spotlight of a D shined in the sky, “now I summon…Destiny Hero-Fear Monger in Defense Mode.” (1000/1000)

Another armored warrior appeared. He was covered by dark green armor styled like a fighter plane & had a cannon on his right arm. His eyes glowed red on sight.

“Guess your Fear Monger wasn’t so fearful after all,” mocked Dario.

“Oh, I won’t be too sure on that if I were you…” said Penny.

“She’s right, but I will explain that soon,” said Curtis.

“I place 1 face-down & end my turn,” said Dario.

“Draw!” said Curtis, “I will firstly show you the power of my Dasher. When he is my graveyard & I had just drawn a monster for my normal draw, I can summon it to the field immediately. So take a look at what I got here.”

Curtis revealed the card as Zombyra the Dark. Curtis quickly placed him onto his Disk. Suddenly, a caped hero with a skull-like mask appeared & struck his own heroic pose. (2100/500)

“Zombyra once was a wannabe hero who sought for the power needed to be a true hero, but eventually found it…but only through the dark arts,” said Penny, “fortunately; Zombyra had escaped the power’s influence.”

“But it wasn’t over yet,” continued Curtis, “for the dark lords had placed a curse on Zombyra when he weaseled his way out of their power. I will tell you the curse in more detail later, now we move on to my Standby Phase where the power of my Fear Monger is revealed. At this point, I can Special Summon any Destiny Hero in my graveyard other than Fear Monger himself…and I choose to summon Dasher!” (2100/1000)

A light shone from Curtis’ graveyard & Dasher came out of it.

“I equip Dasher with Cyclone Blade,” said Curtis.

A fan-shaped blade appeared in Dasher’s arm.

“And now, Dasher will attack your Oppressed People,” said Curtis.

“Wait, but isn’t Oppressed People stronger than Dasher?” wondered Louis.

“When a monster equipped with Cyclone Blade attacks, a Spell or Trap Card is to be destroyed…and I most certainly choose your United We Stand card,” said Curtis, “Cyclone Dash Slash!”

Dasher sped towards Oppressed People. As he accumulated his speed, he spun his blade more and more until it generated a wind blast that shattered United We Stand. (2200/3600~400/2000) Dasher then slashed Oppressed People immediately, with them giving out a loud cry of despair.

“That was intense,” remarked Layla.

Zombyra the Dark then knelt over in exhaustion. (2100/500~1900/500)

“That was the curse that was placed on him long ago,” said Curtis, “Zombyra is forbidden to attack the dark forces that bestowed him the power & he would be weakened with every strike.”

“I see, but I will show you something else by activating the Trap Card, Over Limit!” exclaimed Dario, “by paying 500 points, I can resurrect any weak monster destroyed this turn.”

“Not so fast, I counter it with my own trap, Malfunction!” said Penny, “it can negate a Trap Card & set it back in face-down position by paying 500 points.”

“Activate Counter Trap Card, Counter Counter,” said Sachiel, “this card negates effect of Malfunction.”

The Malfunction card shattered into shards & both People Running About & Oppressed People appeared & knelt down. (600/600) (400/2000)

“Ok…I place a face-down card & I end my turn,” said Curtis.

“Draw,” said Sachiel, “equip Des Gradius with Big Bang Shot.”

Des Gradius roared as it glowed in a bright red shade. (3300/2500~3700/2500)

“Battle,” said Sachiel as it pointed Penny’s Garda.

“Hate to break it to you, but Garda cannot be destroyed in battle as long as I discard the top 2 cards of my deck,” said Penny as she sent Jenis & Divine Wrath to the graveyard.

Des Gradius approached to crush Garda, but he glowed with white energy that shielded him.

“But you still had to take Battle Damage thanks to Big Bang Shot’s trampling effect,” said Dario.

“It matters not…set 1 card & end turn,” said Sachiel.

“My turn…I draw,” said Penny, “I play Solar Exchange & discard Celestia & the top 2 cards of my deck for 2 new cards.”

Penny quickly discarded Celestia & the 2 cards (Jain & Light Laser) to the graveyard & made 2 quick draws. Penny smiled at the 2 cards.

“There are a total of 5 Lightsworn monsters, so that I can summon this majestic creature now,” said Penny, “The righteous shall find the path of salvation with this monster’s guidance. I call forth, the almighty Judgment Dragon!” (3000/2600)

A great wind blew across the field as brilliant light shone over the field. A giant blue feathery dragon appeared & roared in all its glory. For once, the Syntho-Daemon Sachiel actually showed fear & took a few steps back in the apparent presence of the dragon.

“Now I can use its effect to destroy everything on the field at 1000 Life Points as cost.” said Penny.

“Not until I play Skill Shock!” said Sachiel, “I Release Des Gradius to negate your monster’s effect for this turn.”

“But if he’s sent to the grave from the field, then…” exclaimed Penny.

“It leaves behind…The Mask of Remnants…” said Sachiel, “which shall be equipped to your Judgment Dragon that I shall commandeer.”

Des Gradius disappeared & a macabre mask appeared on Judgment Dragon’s head. It roared in pain as it flew at Sachiel’s side.

“I play Remove Brainwashing!” said Curtis, “it guides all monsters to their true masters!”

The Mask of Remnants slowly cracked open & Judgment Dragon roared in anger as it returned to Penny’s side.

“Now you made him mad…attack Sachiel with Storm of Judgment!” cried Penny.

Judgment Dragon flew up & flapped its huge wings to create a giant windstorm at Sachiel…one that blew up away literally.

“1 down...” said Penny.

“And 1 more to go,” continued Curtis.

“Anyway, I end my turn,” said Penny.

“Draw,” said Dario as he looked at his new card.

“Oh…lucky me…” thought Dario.

“I play Draw of Fate!” said Dario as a card, showing a hand over a glowing deck of cards, appeared, “I can draw 1 card & I must guess what type of card it could be. If I’m right, your Life Points will be halved.”

“And what if you goofed off?” inquired Penny.

“I will take 2000 points of damage then,” said Dario calmly & with his eyes glowing, “and I say that it would be…a monster…”

Dario quickly drew out the card & it was indeed a monster…a Normal Monster to be precise.

“You’ve seen it already & I will show it to you now! I summon…United Resistance!” (1000/700) said Dario.

A group of seedy-looking people appeared onto the field. Their presence caused the other 2 monsters to stand up & they had become braver.

“As the oppression grows more dangerous day by day, the people have chosen to rally together as an unstoppable rebellion army…” said Dario, “and the day the people shall revolt…is now! I play my trump card, Huge Revolution!!!”

The face-down card opened, showing 3 humans uniting together. People Running About, Oppressed People & United Resistance all stood high up & cheered loudly.

“By its effect, all your cards on the field & in your hand are to be destroyed,” said Dario.

The Huge Revolution card glowed brightly & every other monster was engulfed by the light. Zombyra, Dasher & Judgment Dragon groaned a dying cry as they were disintegrated by the blast. Even the hand was not spared as they all disappeared at once.

“Oh no! We are all cleared up now!” exclaimed Penny.

“I attack both of you directly with my army!” said Dario.

People Running About rampaged at Penny & United Resistance boldly attacked Curtis with their bare fists.

“Guess I’ve won…and you know what that means!” said Dario as his eyes glowed one more time.

At that, everyone else instantly fainted on the spot & collapsed onto the ground.

“Mission accomplished,” said Dario, smirking.

Later on, at the General Hospital, Clair had just woken up.

“Boy, I sure had 1 of the most horrible dreams ever…” said Clair.

She then found herself on a small bed & Noland was sleeping on another bed next to her. There was a middle-aged man looking at her.

“Hello, Ms Kinet,” said Teong, “I am your doctor & you may call me Mr. Teong.”

“Wait…I’m in a hospital?” exclaimed Clair, “but how!”

“You fainted during your duel with Noland,” said Norman who suddenly walked inside.

“And what an impressive duel that was,” remarked Teong, “I’ve never seen such a fierce duel in my life. Also, Norman was a former acquaintance of mine.”

Suddenly, a nurse came walking in. She was carrying a bouquet of flowers with her.

“This is for Clair Kinet,” said the nurse as she handed Clair the bouquet & left.

Clair then noticed an envelope in the bouquet & took it out to read. There were 2 letters & a picture of the Dales family. Clair then picked up the 2 letters & read them.

Heh, some of the good guys have lost and Clair is being forced into a tournament. Duelist Kingdom anyone?

ANYWAY, pretty good duel. No custom cards (except Revolutionary Willpower), but still awesome.

Not to mention some rather ironic cards for a minion of the overmind (oppressed people, heh).

And another Syntho-Daemon! This time a mask deck, a snake accent, and it's soul purpose is to protect Dario.

Curiouser and curiouser... Something big is up.

Ch 28-Flight of Thousand Lights

In the Oregeorgian branch of the Hilton Hotel, Clair was temporarily staying with Norman, who was residing in here. Dr Teong & Fuyuki were also there as well & Clair was crying very bitterly.

“They…they…are…like…family…to me…” said Clair tearfully.

“There, there,” consoled Norman as he gave Clair a tissue, “but clean yourself up first. Be strong & fight for them, that’s what that should be done if you cared for them.”

“I want to use my power to find them, but when I tried, some force is blocking me,” said Fuyuki.

“That must be due to a possible Psi-Blocker. It can block out Psychic powers penetrating a certain area,” explained Teong, “but it amazes me that they would possess such technology in their arsenal.”

“Say, you are quite knowledgeable about this…” commented Fuyuki.

“I…used to work with Norman…10 years ago,” replied Teong.

“So…that means you…” said Clair.

“Indeed, I also was involved in the Genocide,” said Teong, “and both of us were part of an organization founded with that purpose…The White Hawks.”

“And our leader wants to see you,” said Norman.

“Why, so that he may put me out,” said Clair.

“No, I had discussed this with him & he would be glad to accept help,” said Teong, “but only if you can show him your dueling skills.”

“If I had to deal with the Overmind, I would need all the help I could get,” said Clair, “and I will be more than willing to go with you.”

“Excellent, we shall meet him…tomorrow,” said Norman, “but for now, we ought to rest. It’s been a long day.”

Meanwhile, another commotion took place in the confides of Industrial Illusions Company Headquarters in Eastern California before the Great Pacific Shift of 2030. Since the time under Pegasus, his top protégé, Yakou Tenma, took over the company & his descendants who held equal interest & talent in Duel Monsters continued the title of CEO there. Currently, it was led by Yakou’s grandson, Yugi Tenma & he was having a video conversation with a shadowed figure.

“So far, we have given 3 letters to the participants & the stadium is all set for it,” reported Yugi.

“Excellent job, Mr. Tenma. I knew I could count on you…given several motivations,” said the shadowed man, who revealed himself as the Overmind.

“Yes, but is my dear girl alright?” demanded Yugi.

“I advice you not to speak to me in that manner ever again or Ms Sakura shall pay for your insolence,” said the Overmind, “do you understand?”

“Arg…yes,” replied Yugi reluctantly.

“I assure you that your cooperation will lead to Ms Sakura’s safety,” said the Overmind, “I shall send you a list of the other participants that I had requested.”

The screen then went blank & a list was automatically printed out. Yugi looked at the list & sighed.

“The head of Industrial Illusions…reduced to this point…I failed you…Grandpa Yakou,” muttered Yugi as he wept.

The next day, Norman, Teong, Clair & Fuyuki were all aboard Norman’s car. Norman was driving out of town under the guidance of Teong.

“So he should be in the old place, right?” said Norman.

“Yes, he always treat that as his home anyway,” said Teong, “ok, we’ve arrived.”

Norman’s car then pulled to a halt by the side of a road. Everyone inside then got out of it. Teong then guided them to the greenery of the area. Eventually, Teong stopped at a random spot & brushed the dirt in the ground away.

“Do whatever I’m doing,” instructed Teong.

As such, the others also dug out the spot. They saw that it was a trap door & Teong pulled a rope to open up the door. Everyone quickly went inside the door, but they all fell to the ground due to the lack of stairs.

“Arg…must he always not build stairs here!” complained Norman.

“Welcome back, Norman & Teong,” said a voice in the darkness, “may someone be glad enough to lighten this place for me?”

The lights all were turned on, revealing a large group of people surrounding them. Amongst them was a middle-aged bulky man in a business suit, who approached the group.

“Greetings, I am Charles Vi Aria, leader of the White Hawks,” introduced the man, “and I assume that the girl is the Psychic you had mentioned.”

“Yes & the name’s Clair Kinet,” replied Clair.

“What a fine young lady you are, Ms Clair,” said Charles, “I believe that you are a Psychic & a good duelist on your own right. I wish to duel you to better access your abilities…first-hand.”

“Great, you’re on!” exclaimed Clair who activated her Duel Disk.

“What an active lady you are,” said Charles calmly as someone in the crowd handed him a Jewel Disk, a special gold-plated Duel Disk stubbed with various jewelry.

“Like a gentleman would always say, ladies first,” said Charles as he looked over his hand, “but I can assure you that I shall hold nothing back in this bout.”

“Thanks, but I prefer to see how you do it instead. Draw!” said Clair, “and I play Teleport. This card allows me to Special Summon a Psychic monster for 800 Life Points & I summon my Telekinetic Shocker in Attack Mode.” (1700/700)

Charles (LP: 4000) Clair (LP: 3200)

The suited man appeared in a flash of yellow lightning.

“And I can still summon my Destructotron as well & he will be in Attack Mode,” (1600/400) said Clair as the demonic machine appeared as well, “and 1 card face-down & you can now show me your strength.”

“Very well, but don’t say I didn’t warn you,” said Charles as he drew, “I play Summon Storm. By risking 500 Life Points, I can summon a Level 4 or less WIND monster like my Wind Effigy.” (1800/200)

Charles (LP: 3500) Clair (LP: 3200)

A feathered miniature tornado appeared on the field.

“And now, I Release my Effigy for…Simorgh, Bird of Ancestry!” (2900/2000) cried Charles as Wing Effigy disappeared.

From the ground, a large bird flew out. It was golden in colour with a light of radiance shining from it. It had multiple pairs of wings & cawed loudly on sight.

“But how can Charles summon that monster with just 1 Release?” asked Fuyuki.

“His Wind Effigy is treated as 2 monsters Release for a WIND Normal Monster,” said Teong.

“But that makes even less sense, isn’t that monster an Effect Monster?” asked Fuyuki again.

“In normal cases, but that version of Simorgh is treated as a Normal Monster while in hand,” explained Norman.

“When my Simorgh has been Released with WIND Monsters only, I can return up to 2 cards on your field to your hand & both of your monsters seem to be good targets,” said Charles, “Rebound Storm!”

“My Telekinetic Shocker can shield other Psychic monsters from destruction,” said Clair.

“Too bad that they won’t be destroyed,” remarked Norman.

The Bird of Ancestry flapped all of its wings to create a storm that blew away both of Clair’s monsters & the 2 cards reappeared on her hand.

“Now I attack you directly with my Simorgh’s Ancient Storm!” yelled Charles as Simorgh created another storm at Clair.

“In response, I play the Trap Card, Nutrition Z!” said Clair.

“Good thing she played that Trap on time, or else she will be crushed for sure,” said Fuyuki as he relieved at Clair’s safety.

“What a resourceful duelist you are,” said Charles, “I place a face-down card & end my turn as that.”

“Draw,” said Clair, “I shall use Teleport’s effect once again & summon our old pal, Telekinetic Shocker.” (1700/700)

The suited being reappeared again & he was apparently staring at Charles in grudge.

“And I summon my Psychic Jumper in Defense Mode!” (100/1500) said Clair.

A small blue-skinned man wearing a trenchcoat appeared & knelt down.

“And I use his effect & pay 1000 Life Points to switch control between your Simorgh & my Shocker. Go, Psychic Jump!” said Clair.

Charles (LP: 3500) Clair (LP: 2500)

In an instant, Simorgh & Telekinetic Shocker seemed to have switched places with each other.

“And I will attack with your monster! Ancient Storm!” cried Clair as Simorgh created a storm to blow Shocker into pieces.

“What a fine deployment of strategy you had made,” commented Charles, “any more?”

“Just 1 face-down card,” said Clair.

“I draw & play the Pot of Greed to draw 2 cards,” said Charles calmly, “and I summon the Cyber-Tech Alligator!” (2500/1600)

A half-mechanical alligator appeared & roared at Clair.

“But that’s only Level 5!” exclaimed Clair.

“The Bird of Ancestry reduces the number of Releases needed for an Advance Summon of a WIND Monster by 1 for both players,” said Charles, “and he will attack your Jumper with Skydive Assault!”

Cyber-Tech Alligator flew high in the sky & quickly descended in a swoop that swept Psychic Jumper away & destroyed it.

“Despite that, your monster still remains with me,” said Clair.

“I see…I place a face-down to top things off,” said Charles.

“Draw,” said Clair, “and I will use your monster’s abilities for myself…by summoning Storm Caller!” (2300/2000) said Clair as the mechanical-looking being rose, “Go, Ancient Storm!”

Simorgh brewed another huge storm that destroyed the cybernetic reptile in an instant.

Charles (LP: 1900) Clair (LP: 2500)

“It ends now. Storm Caller, Storm Calling!” cried Clair as it prepared its attack.

“Reveal Trap Card, Crime & Punishment!” exclaimed Charles as the hidden card opened, “It only activates when I take Battle Damage & now 1 of your monsters is destroyed & I can summon another one from my hand.”

Storm Caller shattered into thousands of pixels & a skinny turquoise pterodactyl appeared & folded its 2 wings defensively. (0/900)

“In case you don’t know, that’s my Shield Wing & he needs to be attacked thrice in order to be destroyed,” said Charles, “ending your turn, yes?”

“After I set just 1 card,” said Clair as she slid the card in.

“Draw,” said Charles, “I Release my Shield Wing…for my Raiza, the Storm Monarch!” (2400/1600) said Charles.

Shield Wing vanished in light & a large man in green armor appeared with a flowing cape to match. A great wind seemed to blow in his appearance.

“Since he had just been Advance Summoned, I can send 1 card back to your deck…or rather its owner’s deck since I’m retaking my Simorgh back,” said Charles.

The wind spun around Simorgh & it disappeared immediately.

“With everything cleared, I will attack you directly,” said Charles.

“I play Half Barrier!” announced Clair, “if I’m attacked directly, this card can reduce all damage by half.”

Raiza raised his hand & a small whirlwind was formed to envelop Clair.

“I end my turn,” said Charles.

“Draw,” said Clair, “I use Teleport to summon my Destructotron.” (1600/400)

The computerized machine reappeared onto the field & it was staring at Charles with cold sensors.

“He won’t do much yet, since he will be destroyed since you got another Psychic monster there,” said Charles.

“But I can still Normal Summon my Psychic Commander,” (1400/800) said Clair.

A man in a floating platform appeared. The platform had a cannon on it & the man seemed somewhat malicious.

“Now I Tune my 2 monsters. Ascend into a plane beyond all existence. Enlighten thee with light of guidance. Synchro Summon! Rise from nothingness, Astral Plane Dragon!” (2000/1000) cried Clair.

Psychic Commander dispersed into 3 rings of light that encircled Destructotron. They both merged together as a great beam of light that shot into the sky as Astral Plane Dragon.

“Impressive Synchro Monster you have, but it’s quite weak,” said Charles.

“That’s why it has a special ability,” replied Clair, “by removing every monster from both of our graveyards, my dragon grows stronger.” (2000/1000~4400/1000)

“Uh-oh!” said Charles, “then that attack will…”

“Attack him with Astral Burst!” cried Clair as the Dragon unleashed a rainbow-like blast towards Raiza.

Charles then knelt down in his defeat, but quickly got himself up soon after.

“What a most satisfying duel I just had. Thank you, Ms Clair,” thanked Charles.

“It’s only my pleasure,” replied Clair.

“In lieu of current circumstances, let us work together to defeat the Overmind…together,” said Charles as he extended his hand.

Clair smiled at Charles & act of alliance. She then reached out her hand to shake it.

“And I will gladly accept it,” said Clair, in which everyone rejoiced at this alliance.

However, a man concealed in a grey trenchcoat looked at the commotion from a corner & slowly walked away. As he walked, he was muttering something.

“It will be Armageddon when I trust those…freaks of nature,” he muttered.

Doesn't quite make sense, does it? We still don't know what he looks like, maybe something like "His voice revealing him to be the Overmind"

Apart from that it was interesting, revealing much. So they have most of the "White Hawks" on their side, and will hopefully soon be ready to take on the Overmind head on!

Can't wait to see what happens next.

Ch 29-Counterstrike

The White Hawks were holding a grand feast as a celebration of its reunion & alliance to stop a real threat this time round. Despite the joyful atmosphere, there were still a few who were down & bombarded with their thoughts. One of them was Clair, who was still concerned over the Dales.

“Penny…Layla…Louis…maybe Curtis…I hope you will be alright…” thought Clair as she took a sip of her drink.

“This time…there’s proof & everything,” thought Norman, “but last time…the government funded all of our evidence & organized us…could it be an assumption…or are we being used?”

Away from the party, the mysterious man in grey was sitting alone inside a dark room, gazing into a suitcase.

“It’s time I did something,” said the man as he grabbed a nearby Duel Disk & held a deck of cards near him & grinned.

Back at the party, Clair was talking to Charles & a few members of the White Hawks over several issues.

“So your foster family has been captured by the Overmind & he concedes you to partake in a tournament,” said Charles, “what a sad tale to be told.”

“But I’m quite suspicious of that tournament you speak of,” said a man in platinum armor styled like a medieval knight, “he must have a plan if he aims at your presence there.”

“Yeah, but Yugi Tenma has quite a clean background there,” said Clair.

“Don’t be too sure about that yet,” said a mustached man in a silver Italian suit, “Gaius might be right. According to my sources, Yugi Tenma’s grandfather, the late Yakou Tenma, had once unleashed the 3 Wicked Gods whose unimaginable dark powers would had very well endangered the entire world and…”

“That’s enough, Juan!” said Charles, in which the suited man called Juan stopped his speech, “the important thing is that we ought to…”

“Rid us of these abominations,” proclaimed a voice.

Everyone turned around & saw the man in the grey trenchcoat was at the door & he had a Duel Disk strapped onto his arm.

“Darren, what is the meaning of this!” exclaimed Charles.

“Just doing what we were meant to do…by the government’s orders…” said Darren, who was the man in the grey trenchcoat.

“Times have changed, Darren,” said Charles, “and I’m the leader here.”

“Oh really?” replied Darren, “I was the founder here & you just took the leadership & all that credit!”

“But your ideals were too…” replied Teong.

“They were perfect!” said Darren, “I challenge that Psychic girl to a duel!”

Clair was just about to step up when Fuyuki suddenly walked up to Darren.

“Let me duel you,” said Fuyuki, “and besides, I’m also a Psychic myself anyways.”

“Fine, boy,” said Darren as he activated his Disk, “and before I forget…”

He opened up his suitcase & threw a small attachment onto Fuyuki’s Duel Disk. He then placed another one on his own Duel Disk.

“What’s that for?” asked Fuyuki.

“Just something to spice up the duel,” said Darren, “Game on!”

Darren (LP: 4000) Fuyuki (LP: 4000)

“Draw,” said Darren as he drew out a Trap Card showing a castle being protected by a great wall, “I summon Red-Eyes Wyvern in Attack Mode! (1800/1200)

A black dragon appeared above the area. It was somewhat similar to the legendary Red-Eyes Black Dragon, but this creature’s forearms were replaced by its wings.

“I also play the powerful Field Spell Zombie World!” said Darren as the entire room was covered by a spooky fog & the form of a ruined forest appeared with rotting trees & skeletons all over.

“Eww! Gross!” exclaimed a lady in a long elegant dress & a long blowpipe who was among the crowd of White Hawk members.

“Calm down, Genevieve,” said Norman, who was beside her all this time.

“Perhaps you are all curious about Zombie World…” said Darren, “it’s an alternate dimension where all departed life is converted as part of a united undead conscious. Therefore, all monsters on the field & in the graveyard are hereby Zombies.”

At that point, Wyvern grew more skeletal & it screeched in agony. Lady Genevieve saw the gruesome sight & nearly vomited at Norman.

“I place 2 face-down cards & end my turn,” said Darren.

“Draw,” said Fuyuki, “I summon the D.D. Warrior in Attack Mode.” (1200/1000)

A warrior in light green armor appeared. He carried a small curved blade in his hands. Suddenly, he also succumbed to the power of Zombie World & decayed into a walking corpse.

“I will follow up with the Equip Spell called D.D. Blade!” said Fuyuki as a longer blade replaced D.D. Warrior’s original blade, “That card only works on D.D. Monsters & it gives my Warrior a 700 Attack boost. Battle now with Sword of Different Dimension!” (1200/1000~1900/1000)

“I play Quick-Play Spell Ectoplasmic Overload,” said Darren as the card, showing a Dragon Zombie roaring as tentacles were inserted into its body, appeared, “by sending the top 5 cards from deck to grave, my Zombified Wyvern gains 200 points for each monster in the lot.”

“But Wyvern is not a Zombie…” wondered Fuyuki.

“You fool! Zombie World converts him as a Zombie,” hollered Darren.

Darren took out 5 cards from his deck & showed them to his foe. They were Overpowering Eye, Goblin Zombie, Call of the Haunted, Reborn Zombie & Necro Gardna. He discarded them immediately & Rey-Eyes Wyvern flinched in pain. (1800/1200~2200/1200) As D.D. Warrior rushed at the winged dragon, it unleashed a blast of dark fire back at him, which obliterated him. Fuyuki himself was then electrified by the attack.

Darren (LP: 4000) Fuyuki (LP: 3700)

“That attachment will give off an electric shock every time we lose Life Points,” said Darren, “the amount lost is proportional to the current discharged, so we will hurt more when more Life Points are lost.”

“What!” exclaimed Fuyuki in shock, “But now my Warrior’s effect activates & it will remove both of our monsters from play.”

“I counter that move with the Imperial Iron Wall!” cried Darren as the Trap Card opened, “With that card, both of us are disallowed to remove cards from play.”

“But Fuyuki’s entire deck is based on that strategy! If it were just taken away like that…” exclaimed Clair.

“The kid’s powerless against Darren,” continued Juan, “probability of Fuyuki’s victory: merely 10.021% and…”

“No one wants to hear your decimal counting, so just watch the duel,” rebuked Gaius.

“Anymore, kid?” said Darren.

“I place 2 face-down cards & that’s all,” said Fuyuki.

“I draw,” said Darren, “and I play 1 of my best cards. By Releasing my Wyvern, I can Advance Summon…this!”

Rey-Eyes Wyvern shot itself & another black winged dragon appeared. This one was much bigger & resembled Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon, but this one was more eerie than futuristic. It let out a moaning roar that shook the field. (2400/2000)

“Behold…my Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon!” proclaimed Darren.

“”But that’s a Level 7 monster, so how?” cried Charles.

“By its effect, my Zombie Dragon can be summoned by Releasing 1 Zombie monster instead of 2 monsters,” said Darren, “and now, attack him directly with Inferno Hellfire!”

“Surprise! I play Call of the Haunted,” said Fuyuki as D.D. Warrior reappeared to take the attack, although Zombie World rendered him as a Zombie. (1200/1000)

Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon then breathed a stream of blue flames at Fuyuki, but was overtaken by D.D. Warrior. However, the warrior was slowly melted by the flames & Fuyuki yelled in pain as electricity coursed through his body.

Darren (LP: 4000) Fuyuki (LP: 2500)

“It’s not over yet, because I activate my Zombie Dragon’s effect!” said Darren, “when my dragon destroys a Zombie monster, I can revive the said monster immediately. Your Warrior may be a warrior, but Zombie World had altered his form into a Zombie.”

As such, D.D. Warrior rose out of the ground as a Zombie in his rotting flesh. (1200/1000)

“Since it’s still my Battle Phase, let’s go,” said Darren as D.D. Warrior coldly slashed his former master & Fuyuki took another electric shock.

Darren (LP: 4000) Fuyuki (LP: 1300)

“I end my turn,” said Darren.

“And I…dr…draw,” said Fuyuki, “I play Level Tuning, so that all current monsters have their own Levels decreased by 1.” (LV: 7~6/4~3)

“But what’s that point!” exclaimed Darren.

“So that I can play this, the Trap Card called A Rival Appears!” said Fuyuki, “with that, I can summon a monster from my hand whose Level is equal to any of yours.”

“A Level 7…no wait!” exclaimed Darren, “a Level 6 monster!”

“Yup, I call forth the Level 6 Divine Knight Ishzark!” cried Fuyuki as a knight in white glowing armor appeared & brandished his blade that was of equal elegance, but the armor soon decayed as he was consumed by the darkness of Zombie World, (2300/1800) “free D.D. Warrior from his spell with Breakdown Distortion!”

Ishzark’s blade glowed brightly as it jumped to swiftly slice D.D. Warrior into half. Darren then shouted out in pain for the first time since the beginning of this duel.

Darren (LP: 2900) Fuyuki (LP: 1300)

“How’s a taste of your own medicine feels like?” wondered Fuyuki, only to hear silence as a response, “fine, I place 1 card & end it.”

“Draw,” said Darren, “I declare an attack against your Knight! Inferno Hellfire!”

“I was expecting that!” said Fuyuki, “I play Rising Energy to strengthen Ishzark by 1500 points & he can now brave through your dragon’s wrath.” (2300/1800~3800/1800)

Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon breathed its dreaded flames on Ishzark, but he was seemingly unaffected by it. Instead, he slowly moved towards the dragon & executed its head off. Darren then took a huge electric blast from the damage.

Darren could only pant in pain from the shock & knelt down. The crowd cheered as Fuyuki was finally getting things going for him.

“Okay, brat, let’s continue,” said Darren, “I play the Quick-Play Spell known as System Reboot!”

The card then appeared, showing both Spell Canceller & Jinzo emitting some sort of sonic wave across a futuristic city which was shutting down.

“Until my next Standby Phase, the effects of all Continuous Spell & Trap Cards are negated now,” said Darren as Imperial Iron Wall’s image turned dull black.

“That’s plain old stupid!” exclaimed Gaius, “He just let his opponent off like that.”

“On the contrary, he has a reason for such acts,” said Juan as he played with his mustache.

“I move on to my End Phase…where I activate Red-Eyes Wyvern’s special ability,” said Darren as the card slid out of the graveyard zone, “by removing it from play on a turn where I had not Normal Summoned, I can revive any monster with the words ‘Red-Eyes’ in it.”

“That would be…Red-Eyes…Zombie Dragon!” exclaimed Gaius.

“Finally! You’ve figured it out,” said Juan, “Darren’s deck apparently revolves around that creature, the Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon. I heard that the Zombie monsters are gaining quite a lot of attention nowadays, especially with how they had made Sy…”

“You talk too much, my friend,” said Gaius, who covered Juan’s mouth with his hand, “learn how to shut someday.”

Suddenly, Red-Eyes Wyvern rose out of the ground & screeched for a while as it slowly transformed into Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon. (2400/2000)

“Just when I thought we’ve seen the last of that thing…” said Clair.

“Darren was always the stubborn type,” remarked Charles, “and it seems that he will always be that stubborn anyway.”

“Draw,” said Fuyuki, “now that I can utilize my strengths back, I will use it to the fullest…by summoning my lovely D.D. Assailant.” (1700/1600)

A stealthy-looking warrior in a tight suit appeared. He held out a large blade that could be too heavy for its arms to support. But, he also rotted away as per effect of Zombie World.

“And I attack your dragon with D.D. Assailant,” said Fuyuki as D.D. Assailant rushed at the dragon, but it was blocked by the apparition of Necro Gardna.

“You would realise that by removing that card from play, I can negate an attack,” said Darren, “quite convenient for me seeing that my Imperial Iron Wall’s effect has been negated for now.”

“What an unfortunate turn of events,” lamented Charles, “if that attack were to succeed, Zombie Dragon would be removed from play & then Ishzark can attack Darren directly then.”

“Arg…I set 1 card & end it,” said Fuyuki.

“My turn then…and I draw,” said Darren as Imperial Iron Wall suddenly regained its colour back, “at this moment, my Imperial Iron Wall is active once again & your strategy has been utterly crushed. Prepare to face your doom.”

“Talk is cheap, show me some results instead,” retorted Fuyuki.

“And its results I’ll show,” said Darren, “Red-Eyes, attack Ishzark with Inferno Hellfire!”

Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon breathed its flames upon Ishzark who was instead engulfed in it this time.

Darren (LP: 1500) Fuyuki (LP: 1200)

“Activating my dragon’s effect to revive Ishzark as my slave,” announced Darren as Ishzark reappeared in his dull armor, (2300/1800) “take this as well! Go, Ishzark!”

Ishzark emotionlessly struck D.D. Assailant as his sword & destroyed him.

Darren (LP: 1500) Fuyuki (LP: 600)

“Ha,ha,ha,” proclaimed Darren, “I will win this!”

“Not when I’m still standing!” retorted Fuyuki, “I draw & play Card of Sanctity!”

Fuyuki immediately drew out a full hand of 6 cards, while Darren also followed up the move.

“There’s still hope left & I’ll show you!” said Fuyuki, “I summon Sinister Sprocket!” (400/0)

A small black cylindrical creature appeared on the field. It had 2 blue eyes with red outlines each & a long series of chain was wrapped around the length of its body. Suddenly, the long chain rusted away.

“Hey, that’s a Tuner!” exclaimed Clair.

“You’re not the only one here who uses Synchro Monsters, Clair,” replied Fuyuki.

“But you got no monsters with you, so how would you get another then?” said Darren.

“With this card called Owner’s Seal which returns me control of Ishzark,” said Fuyuki as Ishzark quickly returned to be beside his true master, “with that done, I Tune Ishzark with my Sinister Sprocket! Stars of darkness collide to form a force of reckoning. Watch out for its power which shatter time & space. Synchro Summon, Dark Nova Golem!” (2400/1700)

Sinister Sprocket’s chain was ejected from its body & wrapped around Ishzark who was reformed as 6 stars & the Tuner as a single ring. A great beam of darkness shot out as a gigantic golem seemingly made of a type of black metal appeared. Its head had only visible 1 eye & it glowed a malicious red.

“When Sinister Sprocket is sent to the Graveyard for a Synchro Summon of a DARK Monster like my Golem, I can destroy 1 of your Spell or Trap Card…and I’m thinking of your Imperial Iron Wall,” said Fuyuki as a chain suddenly extended from his Graveyard slot & struck the wall. Upon contact, the wall broke apart.

“Now, I can remove cards from play,” said Fuyuki, “and I can use my new monster’s effect. By removing 1 m0onster from play, I can remove 1 monster that you control from play.”

Fuyuki removed Divine Knight Ishzark from the Graveyard & Dark Nova Golem raised its fist against Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon & destroyed it.

“With your whole field cleared, I attack you directly with Dark Nova Fist!” ordered Fuyuki as Dark Nova Golem punched Darren.

Darren (LP: 0) Fuyuki (LP: 600)

“Ah!!!” cried Darren as he was electricfied by that last strike & subsequently fainted. Fuyuki then approached him & took off the shock device attached to both Duel Disks.

“Gaius & Juan, throw my brother out!” said Charles, in which they complied & dragged him out.

“Where do you think would be suitable for this bloke?” asked Juan.

“The Warehouses, a place for losers like him,” said Gaius as he carried Darren over his shoulders.

“Brother?” wondered Fuyuki.

“Indeed, he is my half-brother, Darren Vi Aria,” said Charles, “my father once had a mistress & she gave birth to him. Despite that, I had always treated him like a genuine brother…what a pity that he would not see it the same way.”

“Don’t worry. I’m sure he will recognize your love for him someday,” said Clair, in which Charles simply smiled back in gratitude.

“And talking on recognisation, I have truly recognised both you & Fuyuki’s strength…but what of the others…” said Charles.

Later on, Darren was lying around the Warehouse areas when Gethin & a few masked grunts were walking around. Gethin then took quick notice of Darren & approached him.

“Wake up!” yelled Gethin.

“What the hell!” exclaimed Darren, “and who are you?”

“That’s not important, but I can tell that you can duel,” said Gethin, “I want you to duel me.”

“You have no idea who you’re messing with,” said Darren arrogantly.

“Actually, I do, Darren Vi Aria of the White Hawks,” said Gethin as he smirked at his foe…

After 5 minutes of decisive battles, their duel had come to a conclusion. Darren lied unconscious & defeated.

“Take him with us,” ordered Gethin.

The grunts then dragged the unconscious Darren away as Gethin himself followed suit soon after.
