The Spriter's Colloseum CLOSED. MOD'S, PLEASE LOCK.

Recommended Posts

Based on Hunter The Legend's Duel Arena.

Hey everyone. Welcome to the Pokemon Colloseum. We all enjoy Dueling at the Duel Arena, but why not take a break and have a Pokemon Battle? Well, I bring you the chance!
LV-1: Recolor Battle: 1 sprite is chosen by either an agreement between the participants or a 3rd party. Both participants recolor the given sprite(no editing) and the best job wins.

LV-2: Splice Battle: Your standard splice battle where both participants mix Pokemon.

LV-3: Frank Battle: This popular spriting term is short for Frankensteining, which is the combination of parts from multiple sprites with minor editing and a recolor to make 1 sprite. Source material and artistic credits(if you use someone's sprite sheet) may be required(optional).

LV-4: Scratch Battle: This popular spriting term is short for Scratch Work, which is the creation of a sprite from scratch. It is, of course, the hardest of contests because you must create the entire sprite yourself.

LV-5: Animation Battle: A minimium number of frames is either agreed upon in advance by both participants or assigned by a 3rd party. The minimium number of frames must be used without a duplication of any frame(You can use the same frame twice, but it only counts towards the minimium as 1 frame). In a Basic Animation Battle you can use existing sprites(either both using the same or each choosing their own) and do not have to actually create your base. In an Advanced Animation Battle, you follow the same rules as in the basic, but you cannot make a sprite do something that anything beyond the base exists. This means, for example, that in a basic you could make Pikachu do a thunder attack...but in an advanced you could not do this and would have to do something original...like make Pikachu juggle.

LV-6: The Gauntlet: Yup, you guessed it. The Gauntlet is 2 participants facing off in all 5 levels of competition. Sometimes there is a twist to this, known as a Gauntlet EX Battle, in which the recoulored sprite from Level 1 must be used to create the sprite for level 2 and then pieces from that sprite must be used to create the sprite in level 3. For level 4, you would use the sprites from levels 1-3 as a guideline to create a greater/evolved/whatever you want to call it sprite...but you would not be allowed to use any of the actual pieces. It's more of a looking guide. For level 5, you would animate your level 4 sprite.

Lv-7: Inferno Battle: Grab a sprite' date=' or splice, and recolor the entire body to make it look as if it's an entire flame pokemon

EX: [img']http://i32.tinypic.com/112g2eg.png[/img]

Make it look almost as if it's evolving.

Lv-8: Fossil Battle: Use a sprite, or a splice, and recolor the entire body to make it look like a fossilized pokemon

EX: 111o2vd.png

Lv-9: Advanced Recolor: Grab a sprite, or splice, and recolor it, but with a special design, including clouds, hearts, flames, etc.

Well how exactly does this thing work. When you say splice battle are we talking we each make a splice to see who makes the best, or is does this work differently.

Well if this works by seeing who can splice best, then I'd like to join. I have no preference on who I face. Here is one of my past splices, and a splice that I consider one of my best:

Just as a request/suggestion, could we maybe expand this to be a little more than just a series of splice contests? The reason I ask is that, as a spriter, I'll go heads up against anyone on this forum...but splices are just Pokemon mixing and it can get pretty dull pretty fast. I would suggest a variety of potential matches which would, in theory, get this thread more attention and, in the end, be more fun and challenging. Something like this...

LV-5: Animation Battle: A minimium number of frames is either agreed upon in advance by both participants or assigned by a 3rd party. The minimium number of frames must be used without a duplication of any frame(You can use the same frame twice, but it only counts towards the minimium as 1 frame). This means, for example, that in a basic you could make Pikachu do a thunder attack...but in an advanced you could not do this and would have to do something original...like make Pikachu juggle. ;)

I think something like this would expand you thread into something more popular and interesting. Let me know what you think. ;)

I'm in for enigma's idea ;)

but, their some other forms of splicing competitions that you can add to that list:

Lv-7: Inferno Battle: Grab a sprite, or splice, and recolor the entire body to make it look as if it's an entire flame pokemon

EX: 112g2eg.png

Make it look almost as if it's evolving.

Lv-8: Fossil Battle: Use a sprite, or a splice, and recolor the entire body to make it look like a fossilized pokemon

EX: 111o2vd.png

Lv-9: Advanced Recolor: Grab a sprite, or splice, and recolor it, but with a special design, including clouds, hearts, flames, etc.

EX: idroed.png

there are many more stimulations we can add ;)

these are just my ideas ;)

Just a few things to cover.

1. I like God Splice's ideas but wouldn't they be classified as 1B, 1C, and 1D instead of 7, 8, and 9 since they're just advanced forms of a Recolor battle?

2. That cloud rat is pretty cool. :D

3. Thanks for listening to our ideas, Swift. ;)

4. Since this is a full blown spriting thing now...how about chaning the topic title to something like Spriting Colloseum since it's not all about Pokemon now. :D

5. I'm going to be very busy next week with work...but the week after that I'll probably toss my hat into the ring on this one. I might start out small...or I might just find someone who wants to run a Gauntlet EX Battle against me. :D

6. Why are all the animations in the Animation TUT 2 frame? They look kinda Seizury(new word) to me.
