Why is grammer so important to evry1

Recommended Posts

But quagmire too' date=' you need to use atleast some proper grammar. Take a little pride in your writing. I'm trying to help ya but come on. you have to spell the majority of your words right.

this is a forum!

this is online!

has any1 here ever played runescape/starcraft/warcraft/any other game online where u communicate through typing...

if so, then u no that the majority of people dont want to take the time to write out messages....

that also helps people who r readint them cuz they dont have to take as long to read it. instead of 5 lines, maybe only 3....

at first, shorthand like this may seem annoying, but after u get used to it its really useful. u can type messages faster and other people can read them faster

there are many of them that people dont even realize arent real words anymore and dont care about:

lol

rofl

stfu

omfg

wtf

...

the list goes on and on.... how come if they can go without attracting attention, then grammer is the most important thing in the world?

No it's not, and video games are different from forums games you HAVE to type faster. Here take sometime to think before you post. It's okay to make mistakes but sometimes too many makes it unreadable. And its okay to use some abbreviations sometimes. But not too many. Get it what i mean?

But if your not a programmer and your writing a resume for a job if you don't spell there gonna think your not qualified.

just cuz u dont use grammer doesnt mean u cant use grammer...

i no how to use grammer. i get strt As in english..... i can use grammer' date=' i just hate 2.

Why should i type out the full msg when i can get it in just as well this way and evry1 except grammer freaks are happy. its the same thing as why sell a yugioh card for 1$ when u can sell it for 3$ to a shop?

and my comp time is timed!! my mom only lets me have about 90 minutes a day.... y type out some long answer when i could just as easily do something short?

Tkill this guy doesn't even want to listen to you. So flame or no flame it's not going to make a difference. Quagmire your just lazy' date=' and you use other people as an excuse to not write properly.

ok. im tired of arguing. tomorrow il show u the true reason i got used to typing as little as possible. im gunna post some of the codes from my game...

if i hadent made them as short as possible id have about 5 times as many...

It doesn't take 90 minutes to write 1 well thought out message with proper grammar. About 30 seconds-1 minute tops

thats true... but why take 30-60 secs when i can shorten it to 10-30?

when i have limited time, what do u think i am thinking about?:

-a long thoughtout responce that takes 5 minutes

-a short and to-the-point answer that takes 5 seconds so i can get back and make more cards...

Im okay with people insulting me and my posts. im LIKe good grammer on cards, but as far as im concerned, it doesnt need to b perfect.... it isnt important to me if all i did was spell "card" as "crad" or forget a hyphen..... i done even care f i forgot a space... and i dont get why people do...

and for any1 who is sitll arguing, official yuiioh cards arent perfect. look at:

Chaos emperor dragon-envoy of the beginning

"Inflict 300 points of direct damage to yoru opponent's Life Points for each card which was sent to the graveyard by this cards effect"

did u see?? yoru

Allure Queen Lv 7

the whole second line doesnt have a single space!!!

these r a few of the mistakes iv found, but they prove real cards arent perfect

and if real cards arent all perfect, then why should FAKE ones have to be???

Grammar is important because people hate you when they can't read what you're typing! It's annoying!

And if you want to be lazy and NOT put correct wording on cards, don't put them in contests, and don't put them in the "Realistic Cards" forum.

Dude, there are over ten thousand Yugioh cards. Making a mistake on ten of them barely matters.

It makes you look like a total dope if you don't use reasonable grammar. I honestly HATE IT when people talk like that in real life. I don't like saying "Huh?" after every sentence I hear. I will ignore any post that doesn't have any reasonable grammar, especially ones I can't read.

i no its important on cards. i just hate when people freak over "face-down" being "face down" and "defense" being "defence".

and if they cant read whats being written on the forum, then have them play runescape/starcraft for half a year. they get it reeeeeeeeeeeely quick or just give up chatting...

and srry to evry1, but i cant argue for another 12 hours or so... im tired and cant get on tomorrow morning. feel free to leave arguments for me to fight when i get back on.

Im a programmer. to program u dont need grammer. in programming' date=' it may take 5000 lines of code for the whole program. If you can cut out tomething like a quote or a word its good... and no1 freaks. why cant the whole world just b code

no1 say it.

Well, unfortunetly for you Qaugmire_jr, the whole world is not in code. So, in other words, you either have to put up with somethings in this world we call reality being organic rather than coded or just become a obsessive shut in to has very few friends and bases thier lives on Code. Also (with my limited knowledge of machine code), doesn't something with more code become more complex, yet more safe, reliable and generally look better and perform better?

No offense is meant by these comments, i'm just stating (from what i've read) the bitter facts that the other maybe to afraid to say. If i'm wrong, please tell me and i'll stand humbly corrected, but almost everyone on this thread is p***ed off at your attitude towards grammer. And to be honest, some of your writing is insulting to read. Yet, good grammer and proper spelling ends up causing replies like this one... so there you go. Think what you will.

I play runescape. Many people do use proper grammar there.

But making a a little mistake or something is nothing to flip out about either

I concurr, I never use poor grammer on RS, it just makes you look lazy, and if people talk to me using bad grammer (Exceptions are LOL, etc.), it as if they don't want to waste time talking to me.

I think I'm one of the biggest grammer freaks here, if it's not perfect, I'll do the card again, not just putting it onto my 'to do list', I mean straight away as it's that important to me. However, I can respect if younger members don't know of proper and/or spelling yet, and won't take it as much into consideration when I rate them, but it is lazy if people ages 13+ 'can't be bothered' to take pride in their work, you should be setting the benchmark for the younger members on what they should strive for with their creations - that is one of the many reasons I wish I could find more time to make cards.

That's all I'll say for now.

Why do you hate that? Are you too lazy to type a dash' date=' or are you too lazy to go over one letter and press "s" instead of "c"?

If someone gives you advice, use it.

[/quote']

I DO use it. just when i type, i dont have 100% accuracy and i dont have 100% memory. i may 4get how to spell defense and spellit with a c. i may forget the dash (i never knew there was 1 till last week).

here is what i meant by wrong on cards. the difference between these 2 cards.

flip7.bmpxflip7.bmp

and trust me about short code better. im making a game currently. I already have about 5000 cdes or more and im about 1/2 done. If i had written the codes a longer way, then i could have about 75000 now....

I hate to see 'face up/down' without the '-', I strive to do it myself. As well as that alot of card makers write, for example, Dragon type monster' when it should be 'Dragon-Type monster'. It's as easy as looking at your reals and seeing how they're written. I'm thinking about posting a small tutorial (which will likely be ignored) on the importance of proper grammer, spelling, punctuation and terminology, which is why I personally think I won the YCM Contest.

Obviously SPELLING isn't ranked as highly as grammar in your mind, eh?

"Defence" is the verb, I think, and "Defense" the noun. Key difference.

And before people flame grammar, please look up the definition of "Realistic". I take it immediately to mean "authentic", as one of a variety of definitions. Therefore "Realistic Cards" can be safely assumed to mean "Authentic Cards". By extension, the definition of "Authentic" infers, when used for purpose of Yu-Gi-Oh cards, that you do all of the following:

a) Spell everything correctly ('card' is not 'crad' :: 'defense' is not 'defence')

b) Follow correct conventions of grammar relevent to the scope of the work ('face-up' is not 'face up', 'WATER' is not 'water')

c) Make them fair, which can also be interpreted as a meaning of the word "Realistic", as judged by relativity and measured against other cards ('draw 3 cards' is an unfair card effect, 'draw 1 card' is not)

That's what "Realistic" means, and by posting there you are figuratively saying "Yep, my cards are as realistic as the real ones are", and by extension and damn definition that means you do stuff RIGHT, and you take your time and put some pride into your work. I'd prefer making 1 really good, perfectly worded, interesting, and balanced card than churning out 50 generic, broken, plagued with spelling-and-grammar errors hunks of junk whom nobody would waste their time reading.

PS: You didn't capitalize "Defense Position" on Shield Defender, "End Phase" should also be capitalized, and there's supposed to be a space there.
