Shadow Archangel
I hope this is the right place for this. I looked around, and couldn't see anywhere that looked more appropriate, so I chose here. Anyway... I consider my OCG to be of a reasonable level. I've been playing Yu-Gi-Oh! since the release of SDJ, so I have a fair idea of the way most cards are written, and anything I'm not sure of, I check the actual cards that have similar effects. That being said, I think I've hit a snag, because I've 'invented' an effect, and I don't know of anything with a similar effect that I can steal the wording from! I'll show you what I've got for the effect of this card so far, and it doesn't look too bad, but there's something about it that I just don't like, I'm hoping somebody here could help me... If this card would be destroyed as a result of battle, put 1 Spell Counter in this card (max. 1) instead of destroying it. While this card has a Spell counter on it, the opponent's monster that would have destroyed this card cannot attack. At the end of the Battle Phase of the turn this card battles, remove all Spell Counters from this card. EDIT: Wait! Just realised I got that wrong anyway. I changed 'battles' towards the end of the effect to 'attacks'. Thanks. Link to comment
SushiTheLegend
"If this card would be destroyed by battle, you can put 1 Spell Counter on this card (max 1), if you do so this card is not destroyed by battle this turn. While this card has a Spell counter on it, a monster that has attacked this card cannot attack while this card remains face-up with a Spell Counter. During the end of the Battle Phase of a turn this card battles with a monster, remove all Spell Counters from this card." Something like that...Browarod can probably fix it up better. Although I think the starting effect should be "When this card is attacked, you can" if that makes any sense...hope that helps a bit. Link to comment
Shadow Archangel
Mmm... I thought about "When this card is attacked..." too, but I really only want the card to kick in if it would normally be destroyed. Another problem I see is that if the opponent had attacked my card with say 3 monsters, but some hadn't actually killed it (through the use of waboku or the likes) then the way you (and I, which is probably half the problem here) have worded it means that ALL 3 can't attack any more. I only want to be able to stop one monster at a time. Also, you must have missed my edit, because I only want the effect to stop working if my card actually attacks, not if the opponent decides to sacrifice a weak monster in a suicide attack just to free up their strong monster again. I thought about using a different type of counter (a custom counter like A-Counters or Venom Counters) and simply placing it on the opponent's monster, but then if you had multiple copies of my card on the field, none would be able to attack if only one had been attacked, without freeing up the opponents monster. SushiTheLegend
I doubt theres a way of wording the "No Attack" part any differently then. Also if you noticed I added "You Can" meaning even if the opponent attacks, you don't have to actually add a Spell Counter onto it. The only way I can think of doing it is with a custom counter on the opponent's monster...also what do you mean by "none would be able to attack if only one had been attacked, without freeing up the opponents monster" ? Shadow Archangel
lol - I actually thought that I had put 'can' in the effect... oh well. What I meant was, if you used a custom counter, you'd need to have the card say something along the lines of << When this card attacks, remove all "counter name's" from the field. >> Alternatively, the 'all' could be a '1', but either way, it would mean that when any of my cards with the same name attacked, it would free the opponent's monster, instead of just when the one that put the counter there in the first place attacked. EDIT: Oh, and thanks for the help, btw. I'd give you rep, but I don't have enough points yet, so I'll stick a note in my profile or sig or something to remind me, and I'll throw some your way as soon as I can! Link to comment
