Oxys
I was dueling someone the other day, and he used Golden Sarcophagus, to bring a trap card from his deck out, he laid it face down, and I special summoned Octavius after my battle phase, I selected his face-down trap and told him to send it to the grave, but instead he said chain, and flipped it up, it was continuous, does the effect still apply or was it bogus? Tekken Ham
If it's continuous the effect wouldn't apply. It wouldn't activate until the chain resolves and it dies before it resolves.
Oxys
So It would be destroyed? Or it's continuous effect would keep it on the field? X_X

CrabHelmet
Doesn't Octavius activate during the Damage Step?
Oxys
Doesn't Octavius activate during the Damage Step? I don't think so. The trap was called Greed, and it was continuous. When I selected it when it was face down, he chained my monsters effect, and flipped that face-down face up, he then said my monsters effect had been negated, and that greed is still on the field. When a face-down is selected to be destroyed, can it be flipped face up to counter? Is what he did right?
shadowferret
He could've activated it, chaining to Octavius' effect. However, Octavius targets face-down cards, right? It would stay if it stopped being face-down.
Exiro
Gladiator Beasts are summoned at the end of the Battle Phase, and cards with Spell Speed 2 can be activated at that time. Octavius only targets face-down cards, and if it is chained to, it will be Chain Link One. Chain Link One resolves after Chain Link Two, so the targeted card will be an illegal target since it is face-up now and Octavius' effect disappears. But seriously, did he set the card immediately after he searched for it with Sarcofag?
CrabHelmet
I misread Octavius. For some reason, I thought it activated when it destroyed a monster as a result of battle. >_> Yes, you can chain a Continuous Trap to Octavius, and it will survive. HORUS
Wait. The dude got Greed with Gold Sarcophagus? Then you tried to use Octavius' effect to destroy the Greed that was face down and removed from play? Then he activated his face down removed from play card? Both of you are playing wrong. First of all, you don't place the card face-down. Second of all, if it was face down and removed from play, you don't know if its a spell or trap card, so you can't use Octavius' effect on it. third of all, you can't activate trap cards when they are removed from play. Pharaoh_Atem
This is why I only play the game against good players. They know better than to pull sheet like that.
Phantasy Dreamz
if Octavius' effect states that its effect cannot be chain as in Uria, then it would of destroy it........ but since it doesnt say so, then the trap survives because octavius' effect only target face down cards...... Oxys
I figured, thanks for the info everyone. And After he got the trap from the sarcophagus, he put it in his hand, then he set it >_>. It doesn't get removed from play lol, it gets destroyed. And when it says Spell or Trap, it wouldn't matter if you knew or not because either way it would be a Spell or trap, plus it says f/d XD.
