I suggest: Max signature image size.

Recommended Posts

Hello ^_^

I personally feel attached to this forum, as it's a great community of artistic, imaginative people and but it makes me cringe every time I see X images in each person's signature which are badly put together or way oversized.

Constantly, I have wade through signatures which are literally a page long. It both takes a while to load and is horrible on the eyes.

A solution to this is to make a rule that the max signature size to 250x300 or so pixels (all pictures combined). This will both decrease loading times for pages and will make the forum have a better image to others.

If the total image size rule is broken, the offending member will be PMed to reduce the size. If they do not do so within 24 hours, they will have their signature removed and replaced with a line of text announcing they have broken the signature size rules.

This is my proposal.

Please leave your opinions and comments below, I'd like to hear them.

This is both a fair and righteous proposal. If anyone wants to flame me for it: DON'T or PM them to me.

Thank You.

Agreed, although, it seems like signatures have gotten a lot smaller since the new forum was released.

There are still a few people who have MASSIVE signatures that would only be considered okay if it were 4th it's side.

I think my Signature is pretty reasonable, but if someone thinks it's still too big, I could shrink it down a bit.

I'd be glad for something to be done, but the question is what? It frustrates me no end too, I even turned off signatures in my User CP due to not being able to get it into some member's heads that theirs is too big.

Nay!

You cant put too much of a limit to people signatures, i dont think its right. But on some level it is :P I know I'm contradicting my self but i have 2 points of view. On some old forums i use the limit is 100x500 with was so small we couldnt be creative. Here it will be wierd . Because you cant go from having no limit then changing it to something too small. A resonable limit is fine but you cant restrict it too much. Even if a new rule comes its gonna take a while for people to get used to them because you know that 80% of newbies dont read the rules.

Heres what i see reasonably.

Shaco's sig - 100% reasonable

Rscrash - A tad too big

Frunk: Not everyone knows how forums works, so I suggest restricting signatures for newbies until they have their X post. (Maybe 50, once they've understood it) Most don't know how a forum should be and they want to be show example by all the so-called "veterans" of this forum. But it's not easy as most of the veterans are abusing their signature entitlements (Not sure on the word xD).

Tkill: I disagree. I consider Shacos to be slightly bigger than needed. RS' spans more than a whole page which means it's Massively oversized. And if the rule comes in, we need mods to enforce it.

I hope you respect that it's impossible to deal with, as, whilst I often notify and request to members through PM that signature is too large, eventually, I've noticed on a number of occasions, members just go back to having large signatures. I'd prefer it if signatures are no larger than twice as big as mine AT THE MOST, but how? The forum cannot tell how big images are when using hosted image code into your sig, so, unless we ask YCMaker to make it impossible to insert pictures into your signature OTHER than uploading directly from you computer (Links will just appear as links AND add a pixel limit), and adding a character limit, what can I do as a Mod, personally?

Would that be width wise' date=' or length wise, or both? (just so I know what to cut out)[/quote']

I haven't looked at your sig, but if there is a horizontal scroll as well as a vertical one on the pages that you post on because of your sig, then it is too wide.

what can I do as a Mod' date=' personally?

Here's what I'd personally do; Personally remove there sig and enter in it

"Your sig is too big, please make it smaller" Then if they kept making it bigger give them a personal warning. Then like a 1 or 2 day ban but i think members will listen the first one or 2 times. Which mods usually have the power to do.

I disagree. We do NOT need to measure it by height or width as much as we need to by KB. Like Shaco's sig is around 200 kb and sSth Scott's is around 300. Whos will take more time to load? Scott's.

4 small .gifs will take longer to load than 1 big picture.

^That was uncalled for, notice on your keyboard 'U' happens to be right next to 'I', so it was a mere typing error.

Modating this site at my level is a very time-consuming task, I don't want to have to do that X amount of times a day as well as all my other duties.
