Darkjagwar
...n00bs... Hello. Darkjagwar here. Now, I know that most of the people on this forum are either from an English-speaking country or can speak and/or write English as a second language. My question is this: HOW COME NO ONE CAN FLIPPIN' SPELL?!?!?!?!? My goal is to improve the overall grammar on the member created cards...and possibly everyone's English skills... CapitalizationOne important aspect of writing properly is knowing when to CAPITALIZE. There are two specific situations that call for capitalization.• The first letter of the first word of a sentence should ALWAYS be capital.• Names of things should be capital. Such as English which is the name of a language. Now, to apply it to making cards:• The first letter of the first word of a sentence is capitalized. I cannot stress this enough. This is common sense, people.• The names of cards are capitalized.ie. on an "Armed Dragon Lv5" card, "Armed Dragon Lv7" is capitalized properly.• There are a few key words on cards that should and should not be capitalized. Here is the lists: [spoiler=Always capitalized]Attack PositionDefense PositionSummonNormal SummonSpecial SummonAdvance SummonTribute SummonFlip SummonSetRitual SummonFusion SummonLife PointsBattle DamageDraw PhaseStandby PhaseMain Phase 1Main Phase 2Battle PhaseDamage StepEnd PhaseNormalEffectRitualFusionSynchroTunernon-TunerDeckGraveyardTributeTributed [spoiler=Never Capitalized]destroysdestroyed as a result of battledestroyed by battlebattles withsent to theremoved from playattackingdefendingmonsterface-upface-downdrawreturn to your/your opponent'snegate Also, ATK and DEF are always capitalized and abbreviated. PunctuationKnowing when to add a period (.), comma(,), colon (:), quotation marks (""), or parentheses (), is a very important skill in life as well as in making cards. Here are ways to use each: Period .Periods are to be added at the end of a sentence. Two spaces should come after the period before the next word. Comma ,Commas can be used at the end of a prepositional phrase.ie. If this card is the only card on your side of the field, They can also be used with an effect that requires diceie. If you roll a 1,2, or 3..... Remember, one space is necessary between the comma and the next word. Colon :A colon is only used for one thing in Yu-Gi-Oh cards and that is to supply a list of effects. ie (segment of the effect of E-Hero Neos Alius): While this card is face-up on the field, you can Normal Summon it to have it be treated as an Effect Monster with this effect:● This face-up card's name is treated as "Elemental Hero Neos". Quotation Marks ""Names of cards are put in quotes. Nothing more to it. Here's an example also from the effect of Neos Alius:● This face-up card's name is treated as "Elemental Hero Neos". Parentheses ()Parentheses have two uses in Yu-Gi-Oh.• They identify an exception. For example:- "When a card is Summoned (excluding Special Summon)..."- "This monster can only be Fusion Summoned by removing the listed Fusion Material monsters from play (you do not use "Polymerization")."• On a Union monster:"(1 monster can only be equipped with 1 Union Monster at a time. If the equipped monster is destroyed as a result of battle, destroy this card instead.)" <<>> Link to comment
