But First He Lit It On Fire
So you know how the OG Egyptian Gods are fairly… Lackluster… In the actual TCG/OCG? Part of it is because they, especially Ra, have more Anime/Manga exclusive effects than can be physically written on a single real card. Therefore, most of the God Card’s effects are dedicated to their summoning conditions and restrictions. MY IDEA: Create a new Monster type: UNBOUND. UNBOUND monsters (yes it’s supposed to be ALL-CAPS) would be distinguished from most monsters in that they would have a second effect box, AND would not have Pendulum Scales (unless it’s an UNBOUND Pendulum monster, in which case their gimmick would be that their monster and pendulum effect boxes would be active at the same time, regardless of if they’re in the monster or pendulum zones.) This second effect box can be used for about anything a card design might have in mind, but in this case, I’ve taken to using the first effect box to store the more “Universal” effects of each UNBOUND DIVINITY (summoning conditions, restrictions, etc…), while giving each card it’s more unique effects in it’s second box. These aren’t meant to be Pendulum Monsters, but since only pendulums have said second effect box, I’ll have to make due for now. As you may notice, each of the God Cards also have effects that are either paraphrased from or inspired by their “Sacred Beast” and “Wicked God” counterparts. Raviel’s “Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 monster; this card gains ATK equal to the Tributed monster's original ATK, until the end of this turn.” effect in particular was adopted and adapted across ALL of the DIVINITY UNBOUND gods to make them gain ATK/DEF from their tributes, and any Destruction/Banishment effects there would have otherwise been have been changed to tributing to play into that angle. In addition, each of the DIVINITY UNBOUND God Cards also treat themselves as their original selves while on the field or in the GY to maximize their support options. Beyond that, their Special Summoning Restrictions, instead of leaving the field or just plainly being impossible to special summon, simply require “Mound of the Bound Creator” to be Face-up, which is less restrictive than OG Ra’s stipulation, but more so that the OG Slifer’s and Obelisk’s. They also have a floating effect to search out one of the support cards for their respective God Card. They also cannot be used as Tribute or Material (protection against cards like Nibiru and Super Poly), and are protected from your opponent’s targeting effects, meaning that they’ll have potent but NOT unassailable defenses built in. And again, ignore the Pendulum Scales… I can’t get rid of the Pendulum Scales entirely using this website, so I thought would be cool to use in the meanwhile. As for the “Mound of the Bound Creator” each “DIVINITY UNBOUND” needs out to be special summoned at all, I also made a Retrain of THAT, seen above. It provides destruction/banishment immunities for Level 10+ monsters, while itself also becoming unaffected by card effects while one of the God Cards is Face-up on the field. Beyond that, it makes Tribute Summoning more efficient, and permanently applies one of three effects each time a DIVINE monster is summoned… One of them is basically “Infinite Cards” (a Slifer themed effect), one lets players gain LP equal to any damages they inflict on their opponent (a Ra themed effect du to it’s own LP reliant effects), and the last is a 2 Tribute search or mill of a Level 10+ Monster (Obelisk themed, although also more generic too.) Basically the idea is to try and make the God Cards in the actual game as powerful as they are in the other media, and I hope these ideas would do that justice. EDIT: At the recommendation of commenters, I will be inserting text only versions of the above cards, to make sure they can be seen in the event the card picture might not be visible for whatever context (Heads up, it’ll be… WORDY…): _DIVINITY UNBOUND - Obelisk The Tormentor_ (DIVINE) Level 12 Effect Box 1 _Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). If this card battles, During Damage Calculation Only; It gains ATK/DEF equal to the highest ATK and DEF each on the field +100, except "DIVINITY UNBOUND - The Winged Dragon Of Ra". You can pay 1000 LP, then target 1 card on the field (Quick Effect); Tribute that target, then Apply 1 of the Following Effects; ️Inflict 1000 Damage to that card’s Controller. ️Set 1 Continuous Spell from your Hand or Deck._ ATK/4000 DEF/4000 _Mound of the UNBOUND DIVINITY_ (SPELL) Field Spell _While Face-up on the field, this card’s name becomes “Mound of the Bound Creator”. 0PxPz0
interesting concept but i don't really get it exactly. do they just have two effect boxes, effectively being a card template with more space, or is it closer to gemini monsters, requiring some specific condition to unlock their other effects? if the former there's no point in this existing as a card type, if the latter it either needs to be a universal condition (as with gemini, requiring an addition normal summon) or needs to be stated in the first effect box. while i realize you said you didn't have a template in place, i feel like this could be expanded even further by fully replacting the traditional monster text box, potentially giving the cards new atk, def, and types when they're "unbound"
But First He Lit It On Fire
Mostly the first point, although you’re giving me some fun ideas with that second point of yours… Clearly have work to do. Anyway, My thinking is that Konami wouldn’t realistically make monsters with second effect boxes (besides Pendulums I mean) UNLESS they’re part of a whole new gimmick they could market. UNBOUND Monsters could be just that, Boss monsters that are now (to an extent) UNBOUND from their in-universe and/or in-game restraints. Making the 2 boxes for monsters (and/or Spells/Traps) a standard issue thing would probably require a complete revamp or sequel for the game, which would only really be feasible through a video game on short notice, and what I’d do if they DID do that would be a whole other forum post (Rules changes and all that, but also QOL adjustments like taking out the text between the effect and art boxes for monsters to increase the text box size, and increasing the card sizes themselves from 3.25 x 2.25 inches to 2.5 x 3.5 inches, or the same size as a Poker Card. Both in tandem would let cards fit more effects while also being easier to read.)
LazerSwordKirbo
Just letting you know, it is generally considered good etiquette to copy past the cards' stats and effects below them so that people can red it even if they have a display issue preventing them from loading images, and it helps the cards' be more readable to people with small screens when you have a lot of text on a card. Horu
I'd say do away with the infinite scales since that's effectively make 2 god cards literally able to summon off your entire hand and extra deck. Maybe just put the scales at 10.
But First He Lit It On Fire
This website’s card maker didn’t have the option to exclude the scales outright, so that’s why they’re . They aren’t meant to be Pendulum monsters at all, so I’m just using the Pendulum bits for the second effect box UNBOUND monsters would have.
