Hi, This is probably going to be one of those long threads that are pain in the ass to read. However, I would really like to learn what is the best possible way of making realistic Yu-Gi-Oh proxies. So first of all, most of the proxies I planned on making, would be common cards, since there are many tutorials on how to make foil oricas, I will be mainly focusing on making quality common cards, and that's why i need your help. I honestly couldn't find many YGH proxy making tutorials, and the one that are on Youtube are mostly very old (print on paper, glue it on the card and voila PROXY), but I managed to find some valuable information from Reddit threads and other TCG proxy making videos. Since i want my proxies to look and feel as best as possible, i suppose the most important things are the quality of the image, printer and paper/cardstock. I wanted to make cards from a certain pack (ex: Magic Ruler), but i can't find any high resolution photos of the cards from old packs, so I will probably edit cards in photoshop myself. But if u do know any databases where there are good quality old YGH photos, please let me know. For the printer i will be using a laser printer "Bizhub C458"(it should be a good printer). However, when it comes to paper, im not quite sure what to use.
So which of the following methods would you recommend for proxies?
Using a Cardstock (300GSM) and printing directly on it on both sides (back and front of the card), then cutting eye of anubis from my fake cards and applying them to the proxies. (yeah I've got many fake cards since i live in Serbia, and buying legit cards is pretty hard and expensive here). I've seen many people laminating their cards on yt. Apart from making cards more protected, is it going to make them look and feel better? I was thinking about using Matte Laminating Paper, so please let me know if laminating is really worth it when it comes to making proxies.
Using a Printable Vinyl Sticker Paper and then applying it on a Cardstock (300GSM or maybe 250GSM) (also back and front of the card). When it comes to this method, i suppose the quality of the printing would be better than when u print directly on cardstock, but im not sure if the card would be too thick compared to the real one, especially if laminated.
The last method would be cutting half of the fake yu gi oh card and then applying vinyl sticker paper, or gluing gloss or matte paper on it, and then laminate it.
The method u find the best for making proxies.
The reason why i would like to make these proxies is because im having this "game" with my friend where we are collecting cards from different packs, and then duelling on "Duelling Book", but I also thought it would be really cool if we could also duel IRL and have real copies of cards we earn throughout our gameplay. I want to make them as real as possible simply because I'm a perfectionist, and if I will be making them, I want to make them right. So if u have any feedback on what would be the best way of making a card that looks, weights and flexes like an actual YGH card, it would be greatly appreciated.
