A How to on changing/useing an avatar

Ok almost every time I have made an avatar for someone here I 9/10 get the question "How do I make this my avatar?" or something similar to those lines. I decided to just finally make a tutorial on the subject.

 

NOTE: Avatars dimmensions have to be 100x100 and under and there file size can only be up to 40KB(Kilobytes)

 

Ok so theres 2 basic ways you can do this you can do it the online way or you can do it the offline way.

 

Will start with the offline way.

 

For starters the offlline way really isn't all the way offline, but you wont have to go through picture sites.

 

Steps:

1. Right Click The Image and Select "Save Image As..." from the drop down menu and save the image to your desktop under a filename you can notice.

 

2. Open your web browser and come to YCM.

 

3. After getting to YCM, and after logging in, go to the top of the screen and click on the "User CP" Button. This will take you to a new page of options.

 

4. Look on the left side of this page and you'll see a rectangular menu. Look to see the "Change Avatar" button and click on that, this will take you to yet another new page.

 

5. There will be 2 subjects "Local Avatar Galleries" and "Custom Avatars." Look under the "Custom Avatars" subject and you'll see "Upload Avatar" and to the right there should be a "Browse" button.

 

6. Click the browse button and select the picture file from your desktop.

 

7. After the file is selected look towards the bottom of the page and you'll see the "Change Avatar" button which will post your new avatar for you.

 

NOTE: There are more complications with doing it the offline way then the online way such as the size of the avatar being to big when its not to big at all, but so far the online process that I'm about to show you has not been shown to have any problems.

 

Now will move on to the online way.

 

Steps:

1. Right Click The Image and Select "Save Image As..." from the drop down menu and save the image to your desktop under a filename you can notice.

 

2. Open your web browser and go to a picture hosting website.

I recomend http://photobucket.com/ it has not had any errors since starting.

 

4. If the website requires you to make an account you should do so for this time and future times.

 

5. After creating you account go to your accounts homepage, if you are using Photobucket you can get to your accounts homepage by clicking the "Welcome,*Your account name here* button in the top left hand corner of the page.

 

6. After navigating to your accounts homepage there will be an image uploader right at the top of the page, if using photobucket. Click on the "Choose Files" button that is in the white box.

 

7. After you have selected the file you want photobucket will upload it automatically into your accounts homepage.

 

8. When the photo is uploaded copy the "Direct Link" of that photo.

 

9. After copying the "Direct Link" of the photo head back to YCM, and after logging in, go to the top of the screen and click on the "User CP" Button. This will take you to a new page of options.

 

4. Look on the left side of this page and you'll see a rectangular menu. Look to see the "Change Avatar" button and click on that, this will take you to yet another new page.

 

5. There will be 2 subjects "Local Avatar Galleries" and "Custom Avatars." Look under the "Custom Avatars" subject and you'll see "Avatar URL" paste the link you copied in that box.

 

7. Now simply hit change avatar.
