Discussion: Fast changing meta

Recommended Posts

Its all well and good for these pros that spend all their money on cards. But for us its almost impossible to keep up with the everchanging meta. I mean at the nationals it is clear Ben Goodridge and co with their lightsworns are going to sweep it. But for people like me its impossible to keep up as with have parents that are like, why are you spending all your money on cards?

Too bad.

I gotta say, 'anti meta hand control counter' sounds really smexy!

If I'm right, you've also posted the decklist before you went to the Nationals right?

I really hate how quickly the freaking meta changes. And even people at my freaking locals go crazy and get the top tier builds. My plan right now is to completely skip over LODT (I still have yet to buy a single pack, nor will I) and then build a kickass Stardust Dragon style deck when Genesis comes out. As for now I'm just running fun decks and a macro hand control style deck...quietly getting destroyed every time.

i don't see the reason why UDE need to introduce so many new boosters in such a short period...

first PTDN, - which pwned - then LODT to counter that pwnage, and soon it will be TDGS...

just when you got your perfect deck in mind and saved enough money to build it, you find that it has become obsolete because of newer cards being released...

UDE = money grubbers...

That may be true, but it adds some consistent change to the game, releasing 4 main boosters a year with special editions and promo packs in-between makes the game somewhat worthwhile. Not to mention we have to keep up with the OCG.

I've never been with the meta. Well, except my Thousand Eyes Restrict deck...

Anyway, I currently run a "Nuke Deck"

1. Get Blue-Eyes in the grave

2. Clear The Field (Magic, Trap, monsters)

3. Reborn Blue-Eyes

4. Hit opponent with 3000 ATK

5. Repeat

Lol at Batterymen being anti-meta. They're just another swarm-based OTK deck. They have a lot of potential, and are also ridiculously cheap. But they're not anti-meta. Neither does Anti-meta ever become meta.

Oppression Gadgets were an example of anti-meta before DAD decks were nerfed. It kept the DAD deck's big guys off the field, thus eliminating the win condition. In a format where Special Summons aren't popular, Oppression Gadgets fail. Thus, if Oppression Gadgets could never become meta because they are not an effective strategy against other Oppression Gadget builds.
