Funny stuff, but I believe that Duel Terminal archetypes have not connection with the normal pool of YGO cards, so not a fan of the cross support with Cheerful Coffin and Lightning Vortex. And the Xyz is outright nasty. Discard 2 and neg 2 cards? no thanks. It does net even have hard OPT clauses xD

You would be incorrect. Worms, Naturias, and Ice Barriers all began as Duel Terminal Archetypes, but they all got support outside of it in Normal Sets. I know this because I was a Worm fan back then and freaked out when W Nebula Meteorite got announced in the same set as Shien's Dojo. XD

I did not mean set-wise, I meant lore-wise. Of course eventually support for Duel Terminal (DT) archetypes was released in regular sets, heck, even once the Duel Terminal sets were discontinued, the story continued in normal sets. But I mean, you won't find any Duel Terminal archetype that "interacts" (e.g. search, require, mention in their text) with cards from other series or that are outside of the Duel Terminal storyline, for example cards from old school sets, or the World Legacy and Albaz series.

Although IIRC a card that got close is Fusion Trishula, which is part of a special set of Dragons made for the different Extra Deck Monster types, and based on the most fearful Dragons from different generations. And although it interacts with the Dragon type as a whole while Ice Barriers do not have many Dragons, it is not exactly interacting with non-DT cards.

Fair point but if we are going by that, then you are still wrong.

Nekroz is a Fuse of both DT AND Normal Set monsters. Yes, they have Dragunity, Ice Barrier, etc, but there was a Pendulum Nekroz that got promoted from being an XX-Saber, which was NOT a DT archetype, but a Main Set.

""Zefrasaber, Swordmaster of the Nekroz" is a Great Sorcerer of the Nekroz (and XX-Saber monsters)." He was apparently promoted from the X-Sabers to the Nekroz, who also promoted the Dragunites, Barriers, and other DT archetypes.

Plus, the Sabers began as a Main Set archetype (Ancient Prophecy) before moving some cards into the DT during that time. So, they are the archetype that were actually connected to both lores.

Actually... X-Sabers are also part of the Duel Terminal storyline, and pretty sure they started in the DT booster sets. A lot of DT Archetypes interact or are related with other DT archetypes, including from the past.

EDIT:

I checked and while Ancient Prophecy did bring XX-Sabers, they are an sub-archetype of X-Sabers, which indeed were released earlier in a Duel Terminal pack: OCG introduced X-Sabers in the set "Duel Terminal - Synchro Awakening!!", released on April 12, 2008. OCG Ancient Prophecy was released on April 18, 2009.

Besides, you keep mixing up YGO series/storylines with Booster packs/set. Not because a card belonging to a series/storyline was released in a core booster pack it means it belongs to the standard series of cards. And, for example, unless Konami makes some sort of crossover special, you will never see, let's say, XX-Sabers interact with archetypes also released or supported in Ancient Prophecy such as Blackwings and Fortune Ladies, while they could get cross-support with Flamvells, since the latter also belong to the Duel Terminal storyline.

That said, I stand corrected because actually there are a couple of instances in which DT-related cards supported cards outside of the DT storyline, and vice-versa. One case is "Void Trap Hole", which depicts an event in the DT storyline, and yet gets Traptrix support, which lore-wise do not belong to the DT storyline. Another case are "Void" Spell/Traps (also including Void Trap Hole, funnily enough) which can be searched by "Void Banishment", a Spell associated to the "Infernoid" archetype.

Whoa, well, I just learned something new, lol. I had no idea that X-Sabers and XX-Sabers were different archetypes.

So there is a true combination with Void Trap Hole, why didn't I think of that, I used that in Duel Links. XD

Tho, I agree with you that the DT monsters fusing with Spells/Traps as Monsters does feel a bit weird. If it was backwards, it would make more sense.

They are more of a sub-archetype rather than different archetype, since XX-Sabers are also X-Sabers due to having "X-Saber" in their names xD
Anything that supports X-Sabers will also apply to XX-Sabers.

For the record, Zefrasaber is indeed Nekroz Sorcerer, but he borrowed or acquired the weapons of the different XX-Sabers when he was chosen and powered up by the Zefra. Until then, he was not related to X-Sabers and they are from different generations in the DT storyline, with X-Sabers belonging to the past as part of the first generation. Pretty sure all X-Sabers were gone by then unless some were somehow preserved or frozen by Trishula or IDK. Meanwhile, Nekroz are from like... the 3 generation IIRC? Ice Barriers --> Gishki --> Nekroz.
I find the DT storyline enjoyable and it can be an interesting read, I recommend you to check it out. Surely the relationships between the different DT archetypes and generations will be cleared up a bit, although Konami comes up with new stuff and retcons some things through legacy support every now and then.
