Monovision-- a theme I made inspired by the final boss villains of the Yugioh Animes

Monovision is an old theme I had designed to be the final villain's deck in a fan-fic I was planning at the time. The core idea is heavily inspired by Pegasus's Relinquished strategy during the latter half of his final duel, but when I revisited the theme I retooled how it functioned and made something a little different.

Monovision is a series of DARK Pendulum Fiends, Machines, and Illusions that enslave your opponent's monsters and turn them into zombies. The playstyle is meant to be very much one that allows you to toy with your opponent at all stages of its gameplay, instead of a focus on turbo-your-boss or early game locks. While the deck does have bosses and a potential to combo them out quickly, I found it more interesting to imagine the deck how it would appear in anime episodes and how its full strategy and capabilities could unfold over the course of one or more duels. The lore and flavor design is entirely around television and CRT-TV's. With that said, let's dive into it!

 

Monovision Charactron
DARK - Level 1

Fiend/Pendulum/Effect

[Pendulum Effect]
During your Main Phase: You can destroy this card, and if you do, add 1 “Monovision” card from your Deck to your hand, except “Monovision Charactron”. You can only use this effect of “Monovision Charactron” once per turn.

[Monster Effect]

Once per turn: You can target 1 monster in either GY; Special Summon it your field, but its effects are negated, and equip it with this card. If this equipped card leaves the field and the monster it was equipped to has no “Monovision” cards equipped to it, send it to the GY. If the monster this card is equipped to leaves the field, Special Summon this card from your Spell/Trap Zone. A Monster equipped with this card gains 500 ATK/DEF, becomes a DARK Zombie monster, and cannot be destroyed by battle.

Monovision Flood Beam

[Pendulum Effect]
During your Main Phase: You can destroy this card and any other card in your other Pendulum Zone, and if you do, destroy cards your opponent controls up to the number of “Monovision” cards destroyed with this effect. You can only use this effect of “Monovision Flood Beam” once per turn.

[Monster Effect]
You can tribute this card: Special Summon 2 copies of “Monovision Charactron” from your hand, GY, or face-up Extra Deck, but you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn, except “Monovision” monsters. You can only use this effect of “Monovision Flood Beam” once per turn. If this equipped card leaves the field and the monster it was equipped to has no “Monovision” cards equipped to it, send it to the GY. A Monster equipped with this card loses 500 ATK/DEF, becomes a DARK Zombie monster, and can attack twice per battle phase.

[Pendulum Effect]
During your Main Phase: You can destroy this card, and if you do, your opponent must send 1 monster from their Deck to the GY. Your opponent cannot activate cards, or the effects of cards, with the same name the sent monster had in the GY for the rest of the turn.

[Monster Effect]
You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 “Monovision Charactron” from your Deck. You can only use this effect of “Monovision Tuning Eye” once per turn. If this equipped card leaves the field and the monster it was equipped to has no “Monovision” cards equipped to it, send it to the GY. A Monster equipped with this card gains 500 ATK/DEF, becomes a DARK Zombie monster, and if it battles a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage.

During your Main Phase: You can destroy this card and 1 other “Monovision” card on your field, and if you do, draw 2 cards. You can only use this effect of “Monovision Deflector Coil” once per turn.

[Monster Effect]
Once per turn: You can target 1 Zombie Monster you control; equip 1 “Monovision” monster from your hand, field, or face-up Extra Deck to it. If this equipped card leaves the field and the monster it was equipped to has no “Monovision” cards equipped to it, send it to the GY. A Monster equipped with this card loses 500 ATK/DEF, becomes a DARK Zombie monster, and cannot be destroyed by card effects.

Monovision Nimotube

[Pendulum Effect]
During your opponent’s Main Phase (Quick Effect): You can target 1 monster in either GY; destroy this card, and if you do, Special Summon that target to your field and equip this face-up card from your Extra Deck to it, but its effects are negated, and if that monster is a “Monovision” monster, it gains 3000 ATK/DEF. You can only use this effect of “Monovision Nimotube” once per turn.

[Monster Effect]
You can target 1 monster in your GY; Special Summon that target, but its effects are negated, and if you do, equip this card and up to 2 other face-up “Monovision” cards from your Extra Deck to that monster, and if that monster is a “Monovision” monster, it gains 3000 ATK/DEF. You can only use this effect of “Monovision Nimotube” once per turn. If this equipped card leaves the field and the monster it was equipped to has no “Monovision” cards equipped to it, send it to the GY. A Monster equipped with this card gains 500 ATK/DEF, and becomes a DARK Zombie monster.

Monovision Signal Amplifier

[Pendulum Effect]
While you have “Monovision Signal Repeater” in your other Pendulum Zone, when you would Pendulum Summon, you can instead Special Summon up to 3 monsters from your opponent’s GY to your field, but negate their effects, and equip “Monovision” Fiend Monsters from your face-up Extra Deck to them (This is treated as a Pendulum Summon).

[Monster Effect]
If this card is Normal or Special Summoned while you have no cards in your Pendulum Zones; you can place 1 “Monovision Signal Repeater” from your hand, Deck, or GY to your Pendulum Zone, and if you do, place this card in your other Pendulum Zone. You can only use 1 “Monovision Signal” monster effect per turn, and only once that turn.

[Pendulum Effect]
During your Main Phase: You can discard up to 3 cards; Special Summon that many copies of “Monovision Charactron” from your Deck or GY, but you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn, except “Monovision” monsters. You can only use this effect of “Monovision Signal Repeater” once per turn.

[Monster Effect]
While you control no monsters, you can Normal Summon this card without Tributing. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned while you have no cards in your Pendulum Zones; you can place 1 “Monovision Signal Repeater” from your hand, Deck, or GY to your Pendulum Zone, and if you do, place this card in your other Pendulum Zone. You can only use 1 “Monovision Signal” monster effect per turn, and only once that turn.

Monovision Network Provider
Field Spell

“Monovision” cards in your Spell/Trap Zones cannot be targeted or destroyed by your opponent’s card effects. While you control no other cards: You can add 1 “Monovision Signal” monster from your Deck to your hand, and if your opponent controls a monster and you do not, your opponent must send 1 monster from their Deck to the GY. Your opponent cannot activate cards, or the effects of cards, with the same name the sent monster had in the GY for the rest of the turn. You can only use this effect of “Monovision Network Provider” once per turn.

 

Monovision Remote Control
Continuous Trap

Send this card to the GY unless you control 2 “Monovision Signal” cards in your Pendulum Zones. Once per turn, while this card is not equipped to a monster: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; equip this card to that target. Take control of monsters equipped with this card. Monsters equipped with this card become DARK Zombie Monsters and have their effects negated.

 

Monovision Cable Management
Normal Trap

Activate 1 of the following effects:
● Target Zombie monsters you control: Equip 1 “Monovision” Fiend monster from your face-up Extra Deck to each target.
● Target “Monovision” cards in your Spell & Trap Zones that are equipped to monsters: Special Summon those targets, sending the equipped monsters to the GY.
● Target “Monovision” Pendulum Cards in your Pendulum Zones: return those targets to your hand.

 

Monovision Feedback Loop
Normal Trap

While you control a “Monovision” monster equipped with a “Monovision” card: Destroy all monsters your opponent controls, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent for each “Monovision” card you have equipped to a “Monovision” monster you control.

 

Commercial Break
Normal Trap

At the start of your opponent’s Battle Phase, while you control at least 1 “Monovision” card: End the Battle Phase. You can activate this card from your hand while you control no face-up Spells or Traps.

 

Channel M
Normal Spell

Add 1 “Monovision” monster from your Deck to your hand, or you can discard 1 card and add 2 different “Monovision Signal” monsters to your hand, then if the card you discarded was “Monovision Charactron”, your opponent must send 1 monster from their Deck to the GY. Your opponent cannot activate cards, or the effects of cards, with the same name the sent monster had in the GY for the rest of the turn. You can only activate 1 “Channel M” per turn.

2+ Level 8 Monsters
You can treat Zombie monsters you control equipped with “Monovision” Cards as Level 8 monsters for this card’s Xyz Summon. Once per turn: You can target 1 monster in your opponent’s GY; attach it to this card as material, and if you do, you can equip 1 “Monovision” Fiend monster from your face-up Extra Deck to this card. This card gains 300 ATK/DEF for each of your opponent’s monsters attached to this card as material. If this card would be destroyed, you can detach 1 material from it instead.

Must first be Synchro Summoned. If this card is Synchro Summoned: You can target other monsters on the field, or your face-up Extra Deck, up to the number of Zombie monsters used for this card’s Synchro Summon, including at least 1 “Monovision” monster; equip them to this card. This card gains 500 ATK/DEF for each card equipped to it and can attack monsters your opponent controls up to the number of cards equipped to it +1.

Once per turn: You can target 1 Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Monster in either GY; Special Summon it to your field, but its effects are negated, and equip it with this card.

[Monster Effect]
“Monovision Charactron” + 2 Zombie Monsters
You can Special Summon this card (from your Extra Deck) by returning the above cards you control to the Deck. Once per turn: You can target up to 1 face-up card each from either field; equip them to this card. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can destroy 1 card equipped to this card, and if you do, send 1 card your opponent controls to the GY. If this card is destroyed, except from a Pendulum Zone, you can place this card in your Pendulum Zone. A monster equipped with this card gains 2000 ATK/DEF, becomes a DARK Zombie monster, and gains 500 ATK/DEF for each other Zombie Monster you control.

Once per turn: You can target 1 Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Monster in either GY; Special Summon it to your field, but its effects are negated, and equip it with this card.

[Monster Effect]
3 x “Monovision Charactron”
Must first be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by banishing the above cards from your face-up Extra Deck while you control no monsters. When this card is Special Summoned: Equip as many monsters as possible from either GY to this card. Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can target 1 monster equipped to this card by its effect; this card gains that target’s effects until the end of the turn. If this card is destroyed, except from a Pendulum Zone, you can place this card in your Pendulum Zone. Monsters equipped with this card become DARK Zombie Monsters and their original ATK/DEF become 4000.

Monovision Overscan
DARK - Level 12
Machine/Fusion/Effect

Cannot be Special Summoned. You can banish 4 different "Monovision" Illusion Monsters from your face-up Extra Deck and/or GY to place this card (from your Extra Deck) face-up in your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell. If this card is treated as a Continuous Spell by a “Monovision” card’s effect, it has the following effects.
● Your face-up "Monovision" cards cannot be targeted or destroyed by card effects.
● Once per turn (Quick Effect): You can banish 1 monster from either GY and Special Summon 1 “Overscan Avatar Token” (Cyberse/DARK/Level 12/ATK ?/DEF ?) to your field. (This Token’s ATK/DEF become the original ATK/DEF of the banished monster.)
● (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 “Overscan Avatar Token” you control; banish 1 card your opponent controls, and if you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent.

Monovision Overscan - Manifest
DARK - Level 12
Machine/Fusion/Effect

Must be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by returning 1 “Monovision Overscan” from your Spell & Trap Zone to the Extra Deck. This card’s original ATK/DEF become 10000. While you have 5 or more “Monovision” cards in your face-up Extra Deck, this card is unaffected by other card effects. Your opponent takes no damage from battles involving this card. If this card attacks or is attacked, at the end of the damage step: Inflict 3000 damage to your opponent. At the end of a turn that this card attacked or was attacked: Return this card to the Extra Deck, and if you do, place 1 “Monovision Overscan” (from your Extra Deck) face-up in your Spell & Trap Zone as a Continuous Spell.
